Russia Defeats Terrorism… Whilst America Hails a Freak Show

00 Ted Rall. A Look Back at Syria. 2012

A curious thing in the Western media this weekend is how little coverage they’re giving a momentous victory unfolding in Syria. The Syrian Arab Army and Russian forces are about to close the final chapter in the five-year war… and the Western media don’t seem to want to know about it. Indeed, one saw far more media coverage given to Hillary Clinton’s nomination as the Democrat’s presidential candidate. Whilst Clinton declared to her party’s convention how she’d wipe out Islamist terrorists in the Middle East, the Syrian forces and its Russian allies were actually getting on with that very job. The Syrian Arab Army, supported by Russian air strikes, is about to be retake Aleppo in northern Syria… the country’s biggest city before the onset of the war in 2011. The coalition opened humanitarian corridors to allow civilians and surrendering militants to escape before the final assault begins on anti-government fighters holed up in the east of the city. The militants are an amalgam of illegitimate armed groups, including proscribed terrorist elements affiliated to al-Qaeda. Western governments and media engage in cynical word games by referring to some of the fighters as “moderates” and “rebels”. For example, a CNN report stated:

Syrian and Russian forces are to open humanitarian corridors for people to flee the besieged city of Aleppo, officials in both countries said Thursday, the day after Syria’s army announced it had encircled the city and cut off rebel [sic] supply routes.

Note how the nice-sounding word “rebel” is invoked as a way of sanitising the fact that the city has been besieged by extremists, who’ve seen fit to chop off the heads of their victims, including 10-year-old boys. What Syrian and Russian forces are about to achieve in the recapture of Aleppo is nothing short of a historic victory. It isn’t just the symbolism of regaining Syria’s second city, which has the strategic significance of government-controlled Damascus. With its proximity to the Turkish border, Aleppo was a bastion for illicit flow of weapons and mercenaries that fuelled the entire Syrian conflict.

The USA and its NATO allies, Britain and France, worked with their regional partners in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey to use Aleppo as the staging post for their covert dirty war of régime change against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The death-cult mercenaries for this foreign conspiracy in Syria have come from all over the world, from some 100 countries, including Western and Arab states, as well as from Russia’s Caucuses. In many ways, Aleppo represents the last stand for the régime change forces. When Aleppo finally falls in the coming weeks, it’d spell the end of Syria’s torturous conflict, imposed on the country by the USA and its allies for the purpose of régime change under the guise of a “pro-democracy” uprising.

What an indictment that is of Washington’s criminality and that of its rogue state cronies. They’re responsible for some 400,000 people killed over the past five years and nearly half the population of 23 million turned into refugees. The refugee crisis and blowback terrorism that confronts Europe are also repercussions from this foreign criminal conspiracy to subvert Syria. The victory against state-sponsored terrorism on Syria is a tribute to the tenacity and courage of the Syrian people, their government, and their army. In that victory, Russia played a formidable heroic role. President Assad acknowledged the vital role of Russia’s military intervention in saving his nation from the fate that other nations have succumbed to, including Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya… all victims of US-led regime-change machinations.

When President Putin resolved to send in military forces to salvage Syria at the end of September 2015, the turnaround was immediate and crucial. Russian air power smashed the jihadi-run industrial-scale oil smuggling routes in eastern Syria. That cut off major financial support to the jihadists, facilitated by the Turkish state. That, in turn, left the terrorist centre at Raqqa to wither from isolation. The retaking of ancient Palmyra in central Syria, with its world-class archaeological heritage, was also another momentous victory for the Syrian Arab Army and its Russian ally. A classical music concert by Russian artists amongst the Roman ruins recaptured from terrorists wasn’t merely smart public relations. It spoke eloquently of what the Syrian war was all about.  This is a conflict between a sovereign nation supported by Russia against barbaric killers mobilised by lawless foreign powers. The battle now underway for Aleppo is one more… perhaps, the final… stage in Syria’s historic struggle against the régime change forces. Russia and President Putin can proudly take pride of place in this historic victory. No wonder then that Western media would rather ignore what is happening in Syria. For years, they’ve spun a torrent of lies and fabrications, claiming that “rebels” were fighting for democracy against a “tyrannical regime”. Now, as Syrian and Russian forces bear down on these “rebel” remnants the truth is hardly deniable. We see them for what they are… a network of terrorist mercenaries deployed by the USA and its allies, who face ultimate defeat.

In order to avoid the moment of ghastly truth, and their own complicity in state-sponsored terrorism, by necessity, the Western media have to pan away from Syria and the battle of Aleppo. They turn to a new narrative for distraction… the “wonderful” nomination of Hillary Clinton as the first woman to run for the US presidency. Typical of the inane subject-changing manoeuvre are glowing quotes from Clinton on how she will lead America and the world in defeating jihadist terrorism. This is the same Clinton who as US Secretary of State (2009-13) orchestrated the covert war for régime change in Syria, with the despicable deployment of terrorist mercenaries guided by the CIA. That is, the very war that Russia is now helping to finally end, along with extinguishing the US-sponsored “moderate” terror groups. In particular, Washington and Clinton may start wars, but evidently, Russia finishes them. Yet, amazingly, listening to Clinton regale her supporters at the Democrat convention this week one can’t but be in awe of the astronomical cognitive dissonance. This warmonger posed as a champion for world peace, as an advocate of law and order? This breathtaking absurd deception was only possible because of the way Western media operate to change the narrative, distort perspectives, and obliterate the facts.

However, the incontrovertible fact is that Russia and Syria are winning a historic war against Western-backed terrorist aggression. Aleppo is the clarion call for this victory. The Western media can’t handle that. Instead, they must try to shift the focus. To whom do they turn for light relief? Why, Hillary Clinton… one of the culprit architects of the criminal war on Syria, and her promises to defend America from Russia and terrorists. American politics and media deception… what a freak show.

31 July 2016. Lest We Forget…

00 Pat Cros. Pere Jacques. 2016

Forget not the cost of terrorism fomented by the Western Establishment… it does come home to roost. If there had been no Western support of ISIS to attack the legitimate Syrian government, this tragedy might not have occurred. The Western support of Islamist terrorists, from the time of the Afghan Civil War to the present does have its consequences. One of the ways that we can remedy it and make reparations for the sins of the neoliberal politicians who unleashed this horror is to vote against it.

Don’t vote for Establishment candidates… if you’re American, don’t vote for Chilly Hilly or Trump the Chump. If you’re British, don’t vote for the Tories or Lib Dems… Aussies shouldn’t vote Liberal. The Establishment unleashed this… we’re paying for it. It’s time to do something about it.

It IS in our hands…

Today, In Krasnodar, we dedicated a monument to the Cossacks and Caucasian mountaineers who fought in and were heroes in the First World War. Exactly 102 years ago, on 28 July 1914, Russia entered the conflict on the side of the Entente. From the Kuban and the North Caucasus, over 100,000 Cossack and Caucasian volunteers went off to the war and about 30,000 of them died. Two local Kuban homeboy sculptors, Valery Pchelin and Alan Kornaev, fabricated the monument to the war-heroes. It depicts a Cossack and a Caucasian Muslim in traditional national costume, standing side by side, hand in hand. The sculpture symbolises the friendship and mutual support of all the peoples of the Caucasus, even in the face of deadly threats. Governor of Kuban Krai Veniamin Kondratyev, Head of Adygea Aslan Tkhakushinov, chairman of the Kuban Legislative Assembly Vladimir Beketov, Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia Aleksandr Ivanov, Ataman of the Kuban Cossack Host Nikolai Doluda, along with other public figures and Cossacks attended the ceremony. Governor Kondratyev said:

This monument is a symbol of our nation, multinational, but united. In our history, one can see many things, but never cowardice and betrayal. In the First World War, Cossacks and mountaineers fought together, slept under the same tents, and ate from the same pot. We must keep alive this memory of this and of their heroic deeds. We shouldn’t allow anyone to drive wedge between the peoples of the Caucasus.

In the First World War, Cossacks and Caucasian Muslims formed a special combat unit… the Caucasian Native Volunteer Mounted Division. Its officers and men were famous for their battlefield heroism. They earned over 30,000 orders and medals, including 4,000 Crosses of St George, one of the highest awards of the Russian Empire. Ataman Doluda said:

After the war, we unjustly forgot the podvigof the Cossacks and the mountaineers in the First World War. Today, we partly correct the situation. The Caucasian Mounted Division had the nickname the “Wild Division”… it terrified the enemy. At the same time, it was an example of the heroism of the Russian army. I’m sure that our children and grandchildren will come to this monument.

At the end of the ceremony, the Cossack honour guard paraded, and all participants laid flowers at the monument.

  • Podvig: Should NEVER be “Englished”… one of the most powerful words in the Russian language. There are literally no English equivalents strong enough. Podvig has overtones of “epic”, “heroic”, “bravery”, “self-sacrifice”, “victory”, “effort”, and “triumph”. It’s best to leave it as is, and admit that English lacks the necessary material to give meaning to this word.
