The Lord gave you long life. Over the years, you gained valuable governing experience, you earned great prestige both in your homeland and abroad, and you wrote your name in the annals of Cuban and world history. Largely due to your personal involvement, the Russian and Cuban peoples developed friendly relations. The Russian Orthodox Church is grateful to you for your attention to Orthodox Christians in Cuba and for your help with the construction project of a new church for the parish of the Kazan Wonderworking Icon of the Most Holy Birthgiver in Havana. I have good memories of our meetings, especially, my warm fellowship with you during my visit to “the Island of Liberty” this last February. On this festive day, I wish you bodily health, peace of mind, and help from the Lord on the path of life.
