One of the titans of world politics is now gone, a statesman, a man who laid the foundations for a moral political ideology, a politics with a primary focus on the fate of the common man, a decent living for the working-class, and a happy world. Fidel Castro and Cuba have the highest moral authority, not only for Latin America, but also for all mankind. I met with Castro many times, and always noticed his multifaceted talents. On the one hand, he withstood pressure from such sharks as the USA, as Cuba is only 90 miles from Florida, so he had to have tremendous courage and heroism. On the other hand, he suffered many attacks and survived in this difficult world thanks to the courage and support of his people. He expended his prodigious talents primarily on education and health, in the uplifting of children, women, and the elderly… where he realised the social essence of the state and government. He’ll remain in the hearts of all people of our planet. I listened to hours of Castro’s speeches; he employed amazing logic in an extraordinarily high patriotism. He lived a strikingly dignified life and set an example for all of us. As for our country, his first visit to the USSR lasted over 30 days, he travelled all over, and what he saw here delighted him. This prompted him to build a moral and socialist society in Cuba. Russia must continue to help Cuba, which remained true to its friendship with Russia in the most difficult times. As for our country, we must remember to help those who in the most difficult times remained near to us, who remained loyal to the highest ideals, who kept their commitment to our historic friendship. We need to give them the maximum help that we can and at the same time bear in mind that the reliability of power is always determined by the reliability of friends and neighbours.
