DNR Head of State A V Zakharchenko said on a Rossiya-24 broadcast:
In 2014, we were ready to discuss federalisation within the Ukraine, but in 2015-16 and in 2017, there was too much bloodshed for us to think of coming back into the Ukraine. We can discuss common relations as two independent states, relations as good neighbours, and so on. However, neither my confrères nor I want to rejoin the Ukraine. There’s too much hostility. We fight for independence. Our people couldn’t agree with the Maidan propaganda in 2014. If we didn’t resist, they’d break our character, betray our ancestors’ memory, and (most importantly) the result would’ve been the same… they’d slaughter us as those who have a strong faith in Russia. We stand with the Russian World; we’re part of the Russian World.
Earlier, Zakharchenko promised to consider renaming the Donetsk airport after the fallen hero-commanders A S Pavlov (“Motorola”) and M S Tolstykh (“Givi”) and to erect monuments to their memory.
