One of the key participants in the Syrian conflict, Hizbullah, is also one of the most overlooked players in the region. Since the start of the civil war, Hizbullah played a key role both militarily and politically, in order to protect Syria and it government from outside meddlers and illegal foreign interventions. Hizbullah is a predominantly-Shi’ite Muslim political party in Lebanon, which boasts one of the strongest militaries in the Middle East. Hizbullah isn’t new to military success; in 2006, it swiftly defeated the Israeli army in under two months and expelled it from south Lebanon.
Since the start of the conflict, Hizbullah was part of the military operations in Syria with great success. Since 2012-13, around 2,000 to 5,000 Hizbullah soldiers participated or are currently active in the conflict; however, this number could be higher or lower due to variable sources. Hizbullah played a crucial role in many operations with the Syrian Arab Army in areas such as Aleppo, Homs, and Rif Demashq regions. The West criticised Hizbullah for its involvement in the Syrian conflict, which doesn’t come as a surprise as the EU, Canada, France, Israel, the Netherlands, the UK, and the USA wrongfully designated the group has been as a terrorist organisation… all the usual suspects. Of course, the true terrorists are the countries listed above. Without them, the Middle East would be stable and terrorism wouldn’t exist as it does today. Hizbullah is one of the few players in the world that actually fights terrorism alongside Russia, Iran, and Syria as well as others, yet the West criticises them for it.
The West had a plan to destabilise Syria; they thought they could isolate Syria just as they did with Iraq… but they failed. So naturally, they now vilify those who defended Syria from the real terrorists. Despite its critical role in helping to save Syria from destruction, Hizbullah keeps a relatively low profile. Contrast their efforts to the US-led coalition bragging about bombing empty desert, and you’ll begin to understand why the Western narrative about the war in Syria is completely upside-down. Of course, Syria’s fate is far from decided. However, like so many human triumphs over evil, Washington once again maligns and vilifies the true heroes.
