Mining Town of Snezhnoe Greeted the Old New Year with an Agricultural Market

Today, residents of the mining town of Snezhnoe in the eastern DNR replenished their stock of New Year’s goodies at an agricultural market that honoured the Old New Year. Ella Gorvat, head of the department of trade, consumer services, and consumer protection in the Snezhnoe GGA*, told us:

We invited several major food and processing enterprises to participate in the Old New Year agricultural market. They included the Shakhtersk Poultry Farm, Snezhnoe Sausage Shop, the Marinovka and Dmitrovka village farms, and individual entrepreneurs. In total, more than a dozen local enterprises and farms presented their products at the market. After we held a Christmas Market in the city, this is our first “Weekend Market”.

Last year, 53 such markets took place in Snezhnoe. Notably, not only local processors and farms, but also enterprises from Donetsk, Amvrosievka, Gorlovka, Yenakiyevo, and other cities and districts of the DNR took part. The frosts that hit the Donbass today didn’t bother the market participants in Snezhnoe. They supplied milk, sausages, vegetables, and chickens… more than 100 items. By tradition, prices at the market were below usual retail level.

Zakharchenko sez Benefits to Families with Children will Increase in the DNR in the Second Half of 2018

Today, DNR Head of State A V Zakharchenko announced that the DNR would increase benefits to families with children in the second half of the year:

By the third quarter of this year, I guarantee an increase in benefits for social support for families with children.

At present, the DNR provides uniform social assistance at the time of the birth of a child, as well as assistance for all children under the age of three, allowances for single mothers, amongst other benefits.

Another Cultural Myth That Must Go: Menstruating Women Told Not to Cross River

Beliefs can be useful… if they help. In Ghana, some beliefs are decidedly not helping. In a nod to the persistence of cultural taboos surrounding the natural process of menstruation, many women and girls can’t travel or go to school because a river god decreed… although they haven’t made the decree public… that they may not cross during their normal monthly biological cycle. The River Ofin, a boundary between the Ashanti and Central Regions of Ghana, supposedly has a guardian god who… if you can believe certain regional officials… decreed that women and girls couldn’t cross while menstruating, preventing vital travel and school attendance. Shamima Muslim Alhassan, the UNESCO menstrual hygiene ambassador, noted that the apparently anonymous deity travel directive is a violation of women’s rights and a violation of a child’s right to education:

It seems the gods are really powerful aren’t they? I think that we need to ask for some form of accountability from these gods.

According to the BBC, Kwamena Duncan, the Ghanian Central Regional Minister, indicated that he’d take the matter seriously by speaking to an Ashanti regional minister to find a solution.

Formed in 1946, UNESCO is the UN humanitarian assistance provider for children and mothers in developing countries. It estimates that at least one in ten female students in the region isn’t able to attend school when they menstruate. A recent World Bank report also notes that over 11 million women in Ghana lack appropriate hygiene and sanitation resources. Human rights issues resulting from cultural myths surrounding the biological process of menstruation persist, including in the island nation of Madagascar, where women are taught to avoid bathing during their period, and in rural areas of mountainous Nepal, where menstruating women must sleep in huts away from family.

Illarion Alfeyev is opening his big mouth again. This time it’s about gender. Read this. This is NOT the teaching of the Church. It’s Alfeyev’s ignorant unsupported opinion. As he lacks any medical or scientific background, anything that he says is pure GIGO… rubbish of the highest order. Alfeyev is, perhaps, the most unpopular hierarch in the MP. Even the Kapalin brothers have more cred and tread. Alfeyev is only a patriarchal vicar… he’s just a vicar bishop with a white hat… HH refuses to give him a diocese, and outbursts such as this one are the reason why. Alfeyev panders to papists in general, to Uniates in particular, and to Evangelical sectarian boobies. Much of what he says isn’t official policy nor is it vetted by the Centre. He remains in his position because of his ties to certain oligarchs, to the papists, and to Westerners in general (he’s pro-American to a fault). He has no real basis of support in the Church in Russia, except for the clique around Shevkunov. However, expect the American Hard Right konvertsy to have a field day with this. I repeat… it isn’t the TEACHING OF THE CHURCH… it’s only Alfeyev’s idiosyncratic opinion. There are those amongst us who are worse than any outsider… Alfeyev is one such. Look at the image above… he kisses the asses of Uniates (the ones pictured are Galician Uniates from the USA… the worst sort of CIA stooges that you can imagine)… that shows the depth of his loyalty to Christ’s Church. What a loser…

By the way, the policy in the Russian Federation is quite similar to that in many American jurisdictions. If one presents legitimate medical documentation to the OVIR, the state changes the gender designation on one’s passport with no hassles or problems. So if you hear Amerikantsy Hard Right sorts blather about how Russia isn’t like the West… I’d advise you to take such with great scepticism. The Russian state listens to medical and scientific experts, not ignoramus loudmouths with no credentials like Alfeyev. Alfeyev embarrasses the Church yet again…
