Mostik* the Cat (Кот Мостик in Russian), a well-known symbol of the Kerch Bridge construction project, gained weight during Maslenitsa and is now on a diet. There are now sites on social networks featuring him. The caption under his image on one site read:

Maslenitsa’s over; it’s a good holiday, but I feel fat. One more plate… then, it’s back to my beloved shrimp diet!

His fans don’t support his desire to lose weight; his healthy appearance pleases them, so some even promised to bring him delicious goodies when they go on holiday in the Crimea. Mostik attached himself to the construction crew in 2015. According to the latest intel, he lives at one of the control points. His official name is Mosta the Cat (Кот Моста in Russian); he has more than 20,000 fans on the social networks. Mostik promised to be the first to take a selfie on the bridge when it’s completed.

  • Мост (Most) in Russian means “Bridge”, so “Mostik” could be Englished as “Bridgie”
