I remember phones on the wall, colour TVs that were pieces of furniture in the living room, no cable TV (let alone digital), no Mickey Dee’s or the Colonel (both came in the late 60s), Walkmans, cassette tapes, eight-tracks, TV-dinners, Edsels, transistor radios, and so much more… like rolling joints over a Grand Funk album cover (the prefered sort was the E Pluribus Funk cover shaped like a silver dollar). I AM “older than dirt”… it doesn’t bother me.

I AM an “elder”… but to decide whether I have wisdom or not is up to you, not me…

Having a pet goat can be just as much fun as having a pet dog as the story of Jack Barrett, a football fan from Burnley in England, shows. They even hang out together in a local pub. Barrett, 40, loves spending time at the Angel Inn with his goat Eric, whom he named in honour of Eric Cantona, the legendary Man United forward. The owner says his pet friend enjoys being around people. Eric the goat is also familiar with fashion… his owner dresses him up before going out. Barrett jokes his goat leads a healthy lifestyle despite his regular appearances in the pub, having no alcohol, and only crisps as treats. Barrett, the father of two kids, said to the Mirror:

He only ever has water. I wouldn’t give my child beer, so why would I give it to my goat? He absolutely loves Quavers.

Giving up all worldly possessions in pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, India’s Sadhu monks display feats of physical strength many of their less-spirited fellow-males can only dream of. One Sadhu, a holy person in Hinduism and Jainism, used his penis to pull a van in a stimulating show of spirituality during the Magh Mala festival annually held in India’s northern city of Allahabad. Each year, hundreds of thousands of Hindu pilgrims gather on the banks of the Triveni Sangam where three holy rivers… the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati…  converge during the Hindu holy month of Magh.

Sadhus reject worldly life in pursuit of spiritual enlightenment. They lead a life of celibacy, ascetic yoga, and search for enlightenment; they wander from place to place, surviving off alms and the goodness of others. Renouncing material possessions, some of the Sadhus even go naked and perform feats of physical or mental strength, which they believe can break the cycle of reincarnation. One Sadhu became famous by lifting a 35-kilo (77-pound) brick with his penis at a fair in Pushkar. Hindus revere Sadhus as representatives of the gods. Being a Sadhu is one of the stages of life people expect to pass through.

9 March 2017. It’s Still Winter in Russia!

“Walruses” playing chess (it looks like the local priest is out there, too!)… vehicles driving on the ice of the frozen Chagan-Burgazy River in Kosh-Agach Raion in the Altai Republic… it’s still winter in Russia… it won’t be spring until April. The Russian winter, although not as severe as in the past, is still legendary and still more tenacious than the one found in the West.
