America’s Problem Isn’t Immigration… America’s Problem Is White Supremacy

_________________________

The USA appears to be destined by Providence to plague [the continent of] America with misery in the name of liberty.

Simón Bolívar

These words of the great 19th-century Latin American emancipator accurately describe the relationship between the USA and Latin America to this day. It’s why the punitive treatment by the Trump Administration of migrants attempting to cross the border from Mexico into the USA constitutes a double injustice.

The first injustice is the role that Washington plays and played in destabilising and impoverishing the economies of Latin American states over generations, while subverting and helping to bring down those governments south of the border that dares attempt to unshackle their countries from the chains of US imperialism, in process of which rampant crime, corruption, and violence prosper. The second injustice is the dehumanisation and demonisation meted out to the victims of the ensuing instability and social and economic dislocation wrought when in a state of extremis they flee their homes for sanctuary across the border with their families. Under no moral code can you justify or defend the forced separation of children, including infants, from their parents… none whatsoever. We saw this in the justifiable outcry unleashed in response, which eventually forced Trump to rescind the policy. However, this being said, the nauseating hypocrisy of liberals excoriating the president over the policy of separating children at the border with Mexico has been near impossible to bear. The likes of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, people who when they weren’t responsible for the mass slaughter of children in the Middle East with their régime-change wars, have, in the case of Clinton, supported mass incarceration in the USA itself, involving the forced separation of families, such people have absolutely no right to take any moral high ground on this issue.

Focusing on the whys and wherefores of mass migration, it’s incumbent on those who are serious about grasping the issue at its roots to identify its causes, rather than continue to deal with its symptoms, and thereby only succeed in creating more causes. In so doing we come to the role of US imperialism in sowing uneven and combined development throughout the Americas. Putting it another way, the development and wealth of the USA were contingent on the underdevelopment and poverty of Latin America… the former impossible without the latter. As Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano pointed up in his classic work Open Veins of Latin America:

Underdevelopment isn’t a stage of development, but its consequence. Latin America’s underdevelopment arises from external [European and US] development and continues to feed it. The strength of the imperialist system as a whole rests on the inequality of its parts.

No leader of a Latin or Central American country defied and resisted the juggernaut of US imperialism more than Fidel Castro did. Of the countless speeches he gave during his time at the helm of Cuban politics and society, The Second Declaration of Havana (1962), is among the most powerful:

Since the end of World War II, the countries of Latin America have become more and more impoverished. Their exports have less and less value, their imports cost more. The per capita income falls, the frightful rate of infant mortality doesn’t decrease. The number of illiterates is higher; the people lack jobs, land, adequate housing, schools, hospitals, means of communication, and means of life. Latin America is the provider of cheap raw materials and the buyer of expensive finished articles.

Lest anyone believe that Castro’s views of the relationship between North and South America in the early 1960s bear no relation to the same relationship today, consider, if you will, the plight of Honduras. According to Human Rights Watch, the Central American country in 2018 has violent crime, corruption, and political repression. Meanwhile, according to the World Bank, over 6o percent of its people live in poverty. What we shouldn’t forget is that in 2009 the army toppled the country’s democratically elected leftist President, Manuel Zelaya, in a coup sanctioned by the Honduran Supreme Court and supported by the Obama Administration. As Stephen Zunes reminded us in a 2016 article:

During his [Zelaya’s] tenure, he raised the minimum wage and provided free school lunches, milk for young children, pensions for the elderly, and additional scholarships for students. He built new schools, subsidised public transportation, and even distributed energy-saving light bulbs. None of these was particularly radical, but it was nevertheless disturbing to the country’s wealthy economic and military élites. More frightening was that Zelaya sought to organise an assembly to replace the 1982 constitution written during the waning days of the US-backed military dictator Policarpo Paz García.

With this sorry fate of the country in mind, is it any accident that the number of illegal Honduran migrants into the USA across the Mexican border spiked in recent years? At this juncture, I feel obliged to make a confession. Back in the early to mid-1990s, I was an illegal immigrant living in the USA. However, unlike those crossing the border from Mexico, I wasn’t fleeing natural disaster, grinding poverty, political repression, or a society plagued by crime and violence. I instead had travelled to the USA compelled to do so by nothing more than personal ambition, succumbing to the myth of the American Dream, which as the saying goes is a dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. Anyway, I spent five years in LA as part of the British expat community in Santa Monica, replete with its British pubs, shops, and all the rest, rubbing shoulders and working alongside many other Brits who lived there illegally, many of them having done so for a long time. I worked, paid tax, and was able to exist as if completely legal.

Of course, the difference boils down to the fact that I, and we, happened to be white Europeans, and thus accorded the unwritten but nonetheless obvious privileges white skin affords you in the land of the free. This, ultimately, brings us to the heart of the matter. America’s problem isn’t immigration, its white supremacy. Whether conscious or unconscious, it matters not. The result is brutal treatment meted out to people of colour, migrant and non-migrant alike.

5 September 2014. A Picture IS Worth a Thousand Words… Justice… American-Style

00 Her grndson served with the Berkut. 05.09.14

THIS is what the Western punditocracy supports. FULL STOP. They APPLAUD it when the junta kicks the elderly in the face. They APPLAUD it when the junta replaces professional cops like the Berkut with Uniate fascist thugs who beat and torture as they will, leaving the rule of law trampled in the mud. They APPLAUD it when the junta fires Smerch rockets indiscriminately into civilian neighbourhoods. They APPLAUD it when the Uniate fascists shoot VSN soldiers and/or their families out-of-hand. It tells me that the Western punditocracy are soulless scumbags at heart… who worship “Might makes right” and “Winning is the only thing”. Keep this in mind when you see that mewling suck-up Will on the TV with his goofy bow-ties… he’s not merely a “talking head”, he’s an unashamed apologist for evil. After all, we HAVE to hurt the Grandmas in Kiev… it’s not only for their own good, it’s to George Will’s personal profit (he’s an “investor”, dontcha know).

I call such people evil and I’m not alone…

4 September 2014. If George Will, Ted Cruz, John McCain, and Rich Lowry are FOR the “Right to Keep and Bear Arms”, Why Do They Oppose the Patriots of Novorossiya Who Stand Up Against Oppression with Guns in Their Hands?

00 This is what George Will Hates. 04.09.14

______________________________

George Will, Ted Cruz, John McCain, and Rich Lowry make loud squawks about the “Right to Keep and Bear Arms”… well, the people of Novorossiya are standing up against the fascist snakes with guns in their hands. The guys I named support the free men of Novorossiya in their fight against evil, don’t they? After all, they illustrate why the people have the right to have guns… and that’s what they’re for, right?

You’d be wrong! These rightwing jabronies are FOR the fascist oppressors… they’re for the oligarch thieves… they’re for Clan Balogh and the Brotherhood and Svoboda… that’s right, they OPPOSE the people who’re standing tall against oppression. Cliven Bundy can brandish guns at government agents and be called a hero… the free men of Novorossiya fight fascist filth (who glorify Nazi collaborators, no less) and get called dupes. I’ll retire to Bedlam with Mr Scrooge… this is so Jabberwockian that even the Queen of Hearts looks positively normal in comparison.

If you’re for “the right to keep and bear arms”, then, you support the right of all free men to do so… the people I named do not. SCOUNDRELS AND PISSANTS (Cordell  Hull was right)!

4 September 2014. You Can’t Make Up Shit Like This… George Will Slips into Goofy Unreality… “Vladimir Putin’s Hitlerian Mind”

00 Gay Rights Protests. temper tantrum. 25.09.13

______________________________

George Will has slipped into unreality. I want you to read one of the most offensive, untruthful, and slanderous rants that I’ve read from the rightwing punditocracy. I wondered why Will had become so nutty as of late… well, his wife is a political hack who works for Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann, and they do say that like calls unto like. Read this. Read it twice… this jabronie is serious… he truly wants us to believe that V V Putin is Hitlerian.

Novorossiya didn’t invade the Ukraine. Novorossiya didn’t bomb Kiev. Novorossiya didn’t target churches, civilian neighbourhoods, and schools. No, it didn’t… but the Ukrainian Uniate fascists did, and George Will applauds them for so doing. He applauds the bloodbaths carried out by the Right Sector and Svoboda terrorists… he applauds the putsch that toppled the legitimate President of the Ukraine, V F Yanukovich. He applauds the Rabbit… he stole more than Yanukovich ever did. He applauds Turdchinov, who helped the USA torture prisoners in the Bush years. He applauds Darlin’ Yuliya the Landshark, who’s stolen more than anyone else did in the upside-down inside-out world that’s been the post-Soviet Ukraine. Oh, yes… he also applauds the Baltic Legions and the neo-Nazi governments in the Baltics that deprive thousands of Russians the right to vote.

In short, he’s miffed that V V Putin refuses to be a “good boy” and running dog to the USA; his nose is out of  joint that VVP doesn’t applaud the American drive to rape the world. I’ll remind Mr Will… if any country can strike a crushing blow at the American heartland, that country is Russia. As D K Kiselyov put it, “Russia has the ability to turn America into a pile of radioactive ash”. That’s why so many Anglo Americans hate Russia. I’ve found that Anglos have a crushing sense of inferiority behind their bluster. After all, Russia had been Christian for 788 years before 1776! I think that’s longer than the English settlement in the Americas (let’s see… 1609… 405 years… yep, that’s far shorter). As for the American experiment, it’s only 238-years-old (if one dates it from the US Constitution, it’s 225-years-old). It hasn’t stood the test of time yet. That is, America is an immature society, so, it has all the nasty habits that one associates with juveniles (it also has the positive traits of the juvenile as well, to speak frankly).

Americans are forever boasting about their riches and power. I’d remind them that it had nothing to do with their system or their ideology… it was because North America is in an isolated corner, far from the centres of the World Island, so, the USA didn’t suffer damage in the World Wars. Russia had to build itself up three times… after the Civil War, after the VOV, and after the Nasty Nineties… which illustrates the inherent strength of the Russian ethos, character, and Weltanschauung. We have no need to boast… Russians aren’t special… we’re sinful-ginfuls as everyone is. We’re not exceptional, nor do we claim exemption from the general moral standards that bind us all, as the Anglos do. Russia isn’t a “City on a Hill”, but America isn’t either.

However, most of all, Anglos are bullies and arrogant. They believe that they have the right to attack others, but that they’re impervious to retaliation. Look at how they panicked at the Sov A-bomb in 1949… they started witch-hunts to find non-existent traitors and spies (there are always some of those, but not to the extent that Red Channels and McCarthy had it). Russia has always had excellent scientists and mathematicians… so, why should it be a surprise that they could build a nuclear weapon? The RVSN can destroy the American heartland… and an American first strike wiping it out is impossible, given the mobile nature of many of its assets (let alone the SSBNs in the Barents Sea and Sea of Okhotsk fortress areas).

That’s what angers the Americans… that Russia looks to its own interests…  that Russia does target the USA (for the USA does target Russia)… that Russia refuses to follow the American lead in culture, religion, and politics. Anglo Americans are narcissistic spoilt brats; so, one has to make allowances for their fatuousness and tantrums. Will’s rant is one such. Thank God, it won’t ever become American policy… but it does confirm everyone’s worst expectations of Anglos. Don’t they make you cringe at times? Unfortunately, they won’t grow up in our time… pass the jug.
