2 June 2016. Saints Aren’t Infallible… They CAN be Wrong

all saints of n america

I wrote this on FB:

However, although he was a saint, St Ioann Maksimovich wasn’t a good bishop or theologian. He was, indeed, holy. He was, indeed, a Fool-in-Christ (thus, his title of “Blessed”, instead of the more-common “Righteous”). However, he wasn’t an administrator (his successor Antony Medvedev had to clear away his mess) or was he an academic theologian. He was, perhaps, a great pastor and a great mystic, but he wasn’t a Defender of the Faith as was Antony Bartoshevich or a hardheaded diocesan leader like Bishop Kip in NEPA. In short, St John isn’t a good source for defined Church dogma… I’d look to people like A I Osipov for that. Again, apples aren’t oranges… sainthood isn’t scholarship or leadership… we should remember that.

I wish that the konvertsy like Holland would stop with the proof-texting nonsense. We aren’t “Evangelicals”… we shouldn’t be aping their Antichristian ways. The Church defines its dogma by its shared consensus… not on this-or-that isolated quote from this-or-that saint or theologian. If a saint said something, it either agrees with the agreed consensus or it doesn’t… if it’s the latter, it’s simply wrongheaded, and that’s that. We don’t believe that saints are infallible. NO ONE IS INFALLIBLE. Therefore, it’s entirely possible for a saint to be wrong on a particular point without impairing their sainthood one bit. For instance, St Mark of Ephesus had tinges of Latin Purgatory in his writing… but since he was a saint in other ways, we overlook this error. In like manner, we overlook St John’s errors in re the tollhouse fantasy. He was simply mistaken on that. Note well that the konvertsy brats can’t seem to get that. It tells you much about them and their stance doesn’t it? Keep alert… the times aren’t good…

28 August 2014. Some OCA Whispers in the Loggia

00 a whisper in the loggia. 08.12

Well, kids, there’s buzz that Maymon wants to sell the Diocese of E PA digs in South Canaan and move to Philly. He can’t stand living in rural PA. Poor baby! It was good enough for Bishop Kip! It was good enough for Herman… it shows good sense, it’s cheaper to live up there, and it’s in the midst of the people. Perhaps, that’s why the Anglo bastard wants to leave… it’s in the midst of people that he holds in contempt. He was nothing but trouble for the Antiochians and he’s turning out to be nothing but a pain in the ass for the OCA. A local told me:

Can you see those coal-crackers like Kowalski driving to Philly every week?!

NO WAY! NO HOW! Any road, NEPA is the cradle of our Church. It’s full of WONDERFUL folks. Maymon is an ungrateful and self-centred bastard… NEPA is a special place… full of special people. Hell, I wouldn’t mind retiring there myself. Where was the Metropolia’s first Sobor? Mayfield! This Anglo SOB doesn’t know that in his bones and he doesn’t care. He should stop this immediately and issue an apology to his people. Every time that I think that the Anglos have grown some sense, shit like this happens. It’s why they’re hated by many ethnic folks… they’re “oh so much more better” than we are, and they let us know it in so many ways. For Maymon to leave NEPA is spitting on our heritage. We came out of the mines and mills, not the country club! He deserves a Cossack horsewhipping for this.

On a lighter note, Dickie Wood surfaced on Facebook in civvies. That doesn’t mean anything of itself… many priests do that in their “off hours” (like the late Metropolitan Nicholas Smiško going off to the International to have a friendly brewsky or two). However, it’s set tongues wagging, and I’ve heard it from several… it doesn’t mean anything of itself… but do keep your eyes n’ ears peeled.

8 September 2012. There are Apples and There are Oranges…

______________________________

A friend sent me this:

Metropolitan Bazyli Doroszkiewicz of Warsaw and all Poland was one of the Absolute Greats. He was from the same stock as Archbishop Kiprian Borisevich, Metropolitan Ireney Bekish (a gentle, much-maligned man), and Metropolitan Leonty Turkevich. However, His Beatitude was wont to greatly enjoy “piwo” and “horilka” with his flock during times of joy and then take the wheel of his VW Microbus. More than once the “policija polakij” had to pull his car out of a ditch!

I wrote back:

Vladyki Bazyli didn’t use smarmy excuses like [Benjamin Peterson] did. As Mr Portokallis said in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, “There are apples, and there are oranges”… and this is a case of that. Vladyki Bazyli didn’t use New Age psychobabble… he was a straight-up guy and that’s that. My remarks stand… and I still love you. Do pass the jug, dear…

I waited on posting this until I got some confirmation from friends in Poland. I got an earful! Apparently, Vladyki Bazyli “slept it off” more than once in the police station, but he wasn’t arrested. The coppers just took it in stride, “That’s how Vladyki was”, one of my contacts said. Everyone LOVED Vladyki, and if he had a nip or two occasionally, why, that was no biggie. It wasn’t at all like that arrogant dweeb Peterson, who haughtily told the arresting officer, “Do you know who I am?” There are apples and there are oranges… the orange tastes just fine, but this apple is no damn good… it’s got a worm in it! YECH! Benjamin Peterson deserves the boot… the sooner, the better. Another time, someone sidled up to me and said, “Bishop Job’s a drunk”. I replied, “Better an honest drunk than a sober thief”. That shut them up.

There are honest upright men who take a nip now and again. There are thieves and phonies as sober as a Baptist. I think that decent people know the difference without needing any help from me…
