MP Established Sobriety Day… Elected New Bishops… Yustinian Ovchinnikov to Leave NYC

00 drunkenness. 25.07.14

On Friday, a meeting of the MP Holy Synod decided to restore Sobriety Day, which the Church observed in pre-Revolutionary days. The Synod also approved a special molieben “For Those Suffering Affliction from Drunkenness or Drug Addiction”. Every year on 29 August/11 September, clergy would preach on this topic, after serving the new molieben dedicated to this affliction. The Synod also recommended, “As far as possible, cooperating with governmental and public bodies, we should publish materials and carry out activities aimed at maintaining a sober lifestyle”. The Synod approved “The Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church to Support Sobriety and Prevent Alcoholism”. Metropolitan Yuvenaly Poyarkov of Krutitsy and Kolomna moved that the Synod reinstate Sobriety Day on an all-Church basis.

Sobriety Day

In 1913, the Holy Governing Synod established this observance for the first time. On 29 August/11 September, the Church celebrates the Beheading of St John the Baptist… one of the strictest fast days in the Ecclesiastical Calendar. It marks the death of a great prophet… after a drunken feast, Herod gave orders to cut off St John the Baptist’s head after his mistress and her daughter asked him to do so.

Other Decisions of the Synod

In addition, the Synod replaced the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA. Hieromonk Ioann Roshchin, a cleric of St Nicholas Cathedral in New York NY USA, will replace Archbishop Yustinian Ovchinnikov of Naro-Fominsk. In the near future, Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev will elevate Hieromonk Ioann to the episcopate. The Patriarchal Parishes in USA comprises 32 parishes and the Monastery of St Mary of Egypt. Parishes are all over the USA, not only in New York, as well as in Mexico. The Synod also made some changes in episcopal assignments, Bishop Tikhon Zaitsev of Podolsk departed as head of the MP Department for Finance and Economic Management, with Archbishop Mark Golovkov of Yegorevsk replacing him; Mark will temporarily remain as head of the MP Directorate for Foreign Institutions. Bishop Feodosy Gazhu of Bishkek and all Kyrgyzstan (Central Asian Metropolia) went to the Diocese of Isilkul and Russkaya Polyana (Omsk Metropolia), and Bishop Daniil Kuznetsov of Urzhum and Omutninsk (Vyatka Metropolia) would replace him in Bishkek. The Synod also elected new bishops to serve in Siberia and Central Russia.

The MP decided this TODAY… it was up on patriarchia.ru TODAY… the secular press received it TODAY. Jillions and Lyonyo take two to three MONTHS to release analogous information on oca.org. I seem to notice a slight DIFFERENCE. I’ll be blunt… the MP is acting responsibly and honestly, the OCA is NOT. I’ll repeat that… the MP is being responsible and honest… the OCA is NOT.

There’s no excuse for this. None whatsoever… no way, no how. The OCA/ROCOR First Families hold us in contempt, and this proves it, even for the slow learners. Modern technology allows us to have things up in nanoseconds… the MP does it. Why not the OCA? Why not the ROCOR? If the Mother Church can do it, we can do it, too… that ends the discussion. Remember Isidore Brittain the Kiddie Porn King, the “Lone Ranger” escapades, Mr Justice Mainella’s assessment of Seraphim Storheim, and Eric Iliff’s death (and the SVS cover-up of the circumstances… the lawsuit against them went away, didn’t it?). One of the reasons for the poisonous secrecy in the American diaspora is that the “leading elements” DO have things that they want to hide… we’ve fallen and we not only won’t get up, we argue that being in the shit-pit is the same as being in heaven… please, do spare me…

Oh, one last thing… spare me your mewling about “renewal”… I’d say that the facts indicate that the Mother Church, which follows Tradition, is honest, whereas the elements that spurn Tradition (including the Traditional Calendar) are not. Reflect on that… it’s a meaty bone to gnaw upon. Sobriety isn’t merely abstaining from drink (although the “Green Snake” (the old peasant name for drunkenness) is no joke) and chastity isn’t merely avoiding sexual situations… both are a little bit more… think on that, too…

20 September 2012. Rod Dreher Chock Fulla It… The Cossacks He Hates are Going to Play a Role in the Upcoming MP/ROCOR Dixie Fry

I heard that the Cossack Congress in America was invited to the big 13 October shindig celebrating the fifth anniversary of the reconciliation between the MP and the ROCOR. It gets better. There’ll be over 200 priests, Archbishop Yustinian Ovchinnikov, Metropolitan Hilarion Kapral, and many honoured guests. Not only that, it’s going to get primo coverage on Pervy Kanal and Radonezh. The Cossacks have the honour of standing vigil at the Myrrh-streaming Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, including the molieben before it.

Therefore, the Cossacks, whom Roddie Dreher denigrates, will have an honoured part of this significant celebration. Dreher, Freddie M-G, Fathausen, et al will have none. Fancy that… there IS justice in this world, after all. Rod… stop hanging about with worthless godless Russophobic trash like Pat Buchanan and the American Enterprise Institute… it’s NOT seemly.

Alfeyev Serves in SF on Assumption… Fathausen and Peterson Present… NO posting on this on oca.org. CAVEAT LECTOR: Dezinformatsiya from the Blunder’s Office… NOT the Official MP Communications Service

The original image in all of its low-res glory.

On 28 August 2012, the feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God, the chairman of the MP Department for External Church RelationsMetropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev of Volokolamsk, visiting the USA with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias, served the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in San Francisco CA. The First Hierarch of the ROCOR, Metropolitan Hiarion Kapral of New York and Eastern America, the former First Hierarch of the OCA, Metropolitan Jonas Paffhausen, Archbishop Kirill Dmitrieff of San Francisco (ROCOR), the Administrator of the MP Parishes in the USA, Archbishop Yustinian Ovchinnikov of Naro-FominskArchbishop Benjamin Peterson of San Francisco and Western America (OCA), Vicar of the Diocese of San Francisco, Bishop Feodosy Sietliysky(ROCOR), and ROCOR and OCA clergymen served together with Metropolitan Hilarion at the Liturgy. The Russian Consul General in San Francisco V N Vinokourov attended the service. During the liturgy, Monk Tikhon Gayudinov was ordained a hierodeacon.

After the Prayer before the Ambo, Metropolitan Hilarion addressed the congregation:

We gather together today on the Great Feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God. Like the Apostles, who were transported to the tomb of the Mother of God on the clouds, we came on airplanes and cars, to gather here together to serve the Divine Liturgy and glorify the Most Pure Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, more honourable than the Cherubim and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim. We came from all over the world… from Russia and other European countries, from all over the Americas, from Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and other countries. The grace of the Holy Spirit led us here, we were led by a love of the Church of Christ, the love of our common Mother, the Mother of God, and the knowledge that we belong to the one Body, the Church, the cornerstone of which is Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Standing before the plashchanitsa of the Mother of God, firstly, we think about the meaning of our human life and our death. Nothing can bring greater comfort at the thought of the passing of our lives, and greater awareness of the meaning of death, than the plashchanitsa of the Mother of God. This isn’t a coffin, around which people gather to mourn for the dead and cry, on the temporal plane of this earth. In the plashchanitsa we contemplate the heavenly world and glorify the Most Holy Mother of God, whose death wasn’t the end, but an Assumption, and a transition to a better eternal life. We pray that our deaths won’t be a final end, but an Assumption and transition to eternal life, where each of us expect our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.

When we look at the icon of the Assumption of the Mother of God, we see her prostrate on her deathbed, but we also see standing next to her Our Lord Jesus Christ, who lovingly takes her soul into His most pure hands, in the form of a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes. So, death is a birth into a new life, a funeral shroud is swaddling clothes, and our last day of life on earth is our first day of life in eternity… a day that never ends, it’ll keep on forever. As we stand before the plashchanitsa, we’re aware that we weren’t created to live a short life and then die… we’re created for eternity, and our earthly existence is but a preparation for it. We’re aware that death is not a tragic and joyless event. Death is a transition to eternal life, and, when we die, we aren’t alone, but with Christ, but only if we lived with Christ in our everyday life, not on our own devices.

Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev awarded Archbishop Kirill of San Francisco the Order of St Sergius (II degree) in consideration of his assiduous work for the good of the Church and the 200th anniversary of Fort Ross. He also gave Archbishop Kirill a Panagia as a gift. Archbishop Kirill thanked Metropolitan Hilarion for the gift and the award. In turn, he awarded the Consul General Vinokourov and his wife the Orders of St John of San Francisco (II and III degree). After the service, the participants were invited to a celebratory meal.

At the bottom of the page, Служба коммуникации ОВЦС (Communications Service of the DECR)… this means that it isn’t from the main patriarchal press service, and must be treated with great caution.

Editor’s Note:

This happened THREE DAYS AGO… and Lyonyo and Jillions deigned not to inform you of it. It should tell you something about the honour and veracity of the Syossetites. In short, they and the SVS crowd have none.

Things are getting worse in the short term, and the bad news isn’t over…
