Points from My Correspondence on Russia and Its Future

00 Work for the Soviet People! 04.04.15

______________________________

It’s up to us to describe the Russia that IS… not the one that the West wants… not the one that nostalgics want… not the one of the transitional state now in existence. My view is that VVP’s vision of the Eurasian Union is that of the old pre-1922 USSR coupled with Tsar Aleksandr I Pavlovich’s vision of the Holy Alliance. That is, VVP is thinking beyond the RF… he doesn’t want to revive the USSR of Stalin’s day… he’s thinking of the USSR of 1920 that wanted to “export” its “revolution” to the West… he’s thinking of the Holy Alliance that sent tsarist troops to Hungary to crush the ’48. He’s studied history, and knows it, unlike most Anglo Americans (especially, in the leadership).

It will rise from the dead by preserving the best of Old Russia, the Empire, and the USSR and discarding the dross. Lenin’s tomb will stay on Red Square… but he’ll be buried in a normal sarcophagus… we’ll nail down the identities of those buried in Petersburg (I think that they’ll find them to be the imperial family), and move them to their place of martyrdom, in the Church on the Spilt Blood in Yekaterinburg… most of all, Kiev, the Mother of All Russian Cities, will have the tricolour and red banner flying over its battlements (Elder Iona said so, didn’t he?). The only way to bring resurrection is to bring forth ALL of our history. ALL OF IT. If Ivan Grozny was part of our history, if Pyotr Veliki was part of our history, then, V I Lenin and I V Stalin are part of our history too. If we refuse to acknowledge the dark side of all eras, we’ll learn NOTHING. It’s ALL ours… or NONE of it is ours. That’s my stand.

If you look at the images coming out of Novorossiya, the amalgamation of Christian and Soviet imagery strikes you. People wearing crosses plant the Red Banner on buildings! People holding icons defend statues of Lenin! Priests bless soldiers who march under the Hammer and Sickle! I’d say that this is what was coming in the USSR, but the August Events aborted it. There’s a new Christian Eurasia… a Christian Socialist state… a state with an appreciation of its Orthodox/Soviet past. If you want St Vladimir, you must have V I Lenin… and VICE VERSA!

Things are unravelling right smartly in the Ukraine… it’s the same thing every day… empty shop shelves, no pay, men hiding out from the Voenkom… the Americans are stuck to a tar-baby. I’m convinced that this wasn’t ordered from Foggy Bottom… people in Langley thought they could get away with it (I think that Nuland and her husband Kagan were the ones behind it). Well… it blew up in their faces. Watch… Obama will skedaddle at the last-minute to fuck up the GOP in domestic matters. Both parties are using this situation for domestic “chicken”… it has nothing to do with the Ukraine at all. BOTH Dems and GOP are playing this for 2016 talking points. It’s a game of Liars Poker… with real people as the chips. I think that makes me (and you) sick. None of ’em gives a rat’s ass for real people’s lives.

I know that you must throw a pinch of incense on the altar in the present-day ROCOR. I’d say that you’re one of the few to understand what I’m really writing about (not only about Russia, but also about the Church, and our crying need for UNITY). BTW… Karlin isn’t as deep as he pretends to be. In his description of the Russian-American diaspora, he missed a good deal. For instance, he typified all “White Russians” as Upper Middles, “conservative”, and clueless about contemporary Russia… that’s not true. I noted that he didn’t talk about the earlier wave of working-class immigrants at all! It’s obvious that he spent no time in NEPA… would he learn if he spent a week in Mayfield or Pittsburgh? I don’t know.

Клуб Весёлых и Находчивых (Klub Vesyolykh i Nakhodchivykh (КВН: KVN): Jolly Wits Club) is one of the most popular long-running shows on the Russian telly. It started in Sov times; it ran from 1961-72, and from 1986 onwards. After the August Events, it kept on going. It’s a fun show where contestants from various schools, universities, and enterprises compete in humorous responses to questions, improvisations on a given topic, and in acting out scenes prepared in advance. Click here for the show’s website. KVN is one of the most-loved aspects of Russian pop culture, and most emigrants still follow it.

The ship, of course, is the famous protected cruiser Avrora that fired the first shots of the October Revolution.

On 25 October/7 November 1917 in Petrograd, an armed uprising broke out that ended with the capture of the Winter Palace and the proclamation of a Soviet government, which lasted for more than seventy years. Celebrations on 7 November (25 October Old Style) began immediately after the event; it was the USSR’s main holiday… the Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution. Under Stalin, the final shape and traditions of the holiday took hold… a workers’ rally, the appearance of state and Party leaders on the Lenin Mausoleum and, finally, a military parade on Red Square. The entrances of Red Square were specially refurbished to facilitate all this. Even on 7 November 1941, when the Fascists were advancing on Moscow, this programme was still adhered to. The troops who paraded on Red Square went straight from the parade to the front. The influence of this parade on the course of events was equal to that of a major military operation. The fascists had planned to hold a military parade in Red Square on this day to celebrate their capture of Moscow. In the 70s, the situation began to change. The Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution was still an official holiday, but it gave way to Victory Day and New Year’s in the people’s feelings. People were still sent from their workplaces to participate in the rally, but it was more of a duty than a pleasure. On 21 July 2005, President Vladimir Putin signed a Federal Law “On Amendments to Federal Statutes on Days of Russian Military Glory”. The new law established memorial days to commemorate victories of the Russian army that played a decisive role in the history of Russia, and to mark memorable dates in the history of the Motherland associated with the most important historical events in the life of the state and society. Among these official memorial dates, 7 November became Day of the 1917 October Revolution (it also commemorates the anniversary of the 1941 parade).

Editor’s Note:

Some are writing that the influence of the USSR is waning in contemporary Russia. Nothing is farther from the truth. Some, such as Victor Potapov, say such to please their Western cronies and paymasters. Others say such because they must… it’s the official “party line” of the “Jordanville gang” and ROCOR First Families (Drobot, Lukianov, Larin, Krassovsky, et al). So, if you see something written by a rank n’ file priest… be kind, they have to say what they’re saying, the First Families are nastier than the Organy ever were (their OCA counterparts are just as bad… the Schmemann, Meyendorff, Berzansky, and Kishkovsky families, amongst others, are cut from the same bolt of maggoty cloth… they’re identical under the skin, dontcha know). Ironic, ain’t it… those who claim to be hardcore anti-communists are the most vociferous exponents of Orwellian goodthinking and peerless practitioners of Marxist-Leninist Political Correctness (they’re joyless enforcers of the General Line of the Party). Who woulda thunk it…

On Monday, the Kremlin Press Service announced Russia would remember its soldiers who fell during the First World War on 1 August every year forthcoming, saying, “The following changes were introduced to the Federal Law on Days of Military Glory and Remembrance Days in Russia, adding 1 August as the Day of Remembrance for Russian soldiers who fell in the First World War of 1914-1918”. President Putin suggested creating a memorial to the Russian soldiers who fought in World War I during his State of the Nation Address of 12 December.

Allied to Britain and France in that conflict, according to the history site firstworldwar.com, Russia is thought to have lost about 1.5 million soldiers at the front, with about 5 million wounded, although some historians question these figures. The USSR downplayed Russia’s participation in World War I, largely due to the Bolshevik view of it as an “imperialist war” that paved the way for revolution.

Speaking with young Russians at the Seliger youth camp in July 2012, President Putin raised the issue of Russia’s role in World War I, and blamed the Bolsheviks for how Russia left the war, saying, “It’s also known that the Bolsheviks wished for the defeat of their own nation in World War I. Overall, I must say that their input in Russia’s defeat was commensurate”. The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, signed between Bolshevik Russia, the German Empire, Austria Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire on 3 March 1918, officially terminated Russia’s involvement in World War I. Putin said, “This was an astonishing situation, wherein Germany surrendered to the Allies, but Russia lost to the defeated nation, Germany, and with such grave consequences… losing enormous territories and suffering other truly severe ramifications. This is truly a unique large-scale example of national treachery!”

Editor’s Note:

What President Putin proposes is NOT what White Guard elements in the ROCOR want. They want to erase the Soviet past completely… as too many of them are of families that collaborated with the Nazis in World War II. Besides that, many descend from bourgeois and aristocratic elements that benefited greatly from the state crapitalism of the tsarist state (which led directly to the ferment that brought on the 1917 events). Not everything in the USSR was wicked… not everything in tsarist Russia was good. Any reasonable person can see that… the ROCOR bishop’s anti-leftist letter of 14 December 2012 is crank to the bone and has Victor Potapov’s fingerprints all over it.

No one dare mention Guantánamo, drone attacks on civilians, or the massive rape of America by soulless money-grubbing oligarchs such as Willard Romney (he sent American jobs to China in the midst of his election campaign… what hubris and arrogance). If you condemn Lenin, you must condemn the contemporary Republican Party… Lenin bowed in front of History… but the Republicans bow in front of the Almighty Dollar. I’ll say this… Lenin was a personally-modest man who didn’t steal from the state. That’s NOT true of the “conservatives” in the West is it?

The ROCOR bishops are utterly in the wrong here. They are right in many things, but they’re hopelessly WRONG in this. Remember how they lied how they “were in touch with the catacomb church” in the 60s and 70s? Remember how Jordanville stabbed the rodina in the back in the 90s (“The communists are still in charge! We can have nothing to do with the MP!”)? Remember how Vitaly Ustinov established ROCOR parishes in Russia and ordained questionable sorts to run them? Remember how the ROCOR put forward such creeps as Varnava Prokofiev, Agafangel Pashkovsky, and Valentin Rusantsov (and then had to shitcan them when they buzzed off into schism)? This is cut from the same bolt of cheesy cloth. The sooner that we clean house of some elements, the better. The new broom will start sweeping up the trash after Hilarion Kapral’s death… ponder that, if you will.

Anyone who wishes to erase ANY part of our history is EVIL… where we did right, we did right; where we did wrong, we did wrong. The latter has to be kept in place… otherwise, we learn no lessons from it. That’s why the current campaign to stuff history down the memory hole in the OCA and the ROCOR has to be fought with all our powers. If the bastards win, we not only lose our past, we lose our future, too. That’s a meaty bone to chew upon…
