Russia to Write Off 29 Billion Bucks of Cuba’s Soviet-Era Debts

04 Raul Castro with Patriarch Kirill

Russia gives “the bird” to the Paris Club and it gives a “high five” to Cuba… that’s what it gives the greedster crapitalists for their godless avarice! After all, Orthodox Christians should be aware that HH condemns the American embargo and considers it sinful. Just sayin’ (waving Pro-Life placards doesn’t “un-sin” supporting the Republicans who back the embargo, konvertsy)…

According to a Reuters report, Russia shall write off 29 billion USD (949 billion Roubles. 30.75 billion CAD. 31.75 billion AUD. 21 billion Euros. 17.65 billion UK Pounds) of Cuba’s Soviet-era debts under an agreement to end a 20-year dispute between the two countries. Moscow agreed to forgive 90 percent of Cuba’s 32 billion USD (1.047 trillion Roubles. 34 billion CAD. 35 billion AUD. 22.6 billion Euros. 19.5 billion UK Pounds) debt to the former USSR under a deal that paves the way for fresh trade and investment. The agreement was finalised in Moscow in October, but the RF Gosduma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, must still approve it. Citing Russian and European diplomats, Reuters reported Monday that Cuba would still have to pay 3.2 billion USD (105 billion Roubles. 3.4 billion CAD. 3.5 billion AUD. 2.3 billion Euros. 2 billion UK Pounds) of the debt over 10 years. Negotiations continue over how the Caribbean island nation, which remains under an American economic embargo, would settle the debt. Diplomats noted that even an annual payment of 320 million USD (10.5 billion Roubles. 340 million CAD. 350 million AUD. 230 million Euros. 200 million UK Pounds) would be difficult for Cuba, which earns around 18 billion USD (589 million Roubles. 19.1 billion CAD. 19.7 billion AUD. 13 billion Euros. 11 billion UK Pounds) per year from exports, including tourism and medical services.

Still formally a Communist state, Cuba defaulted on its debt in the late 1980s, but recently sought to boost its international reputation by restructuring old obligations. Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev signed a general agreement during a visit to Cuba in February to settle the issue of the Soviet-era debt by 2014. The unilateral move irked members of the Paris Club of creditor nations, which prefers a collective approach to debtor states. Cuba owes some 5 to 6 billion USD (164-197 billion Roubles. 5.3-6.4 billion CAD. 5.5-6.6 billion AUD. 3.6-4.4 billion Euros. 3-3.6 billion UK Pounds) of non-Soviet debt to other Paris Club members. The informal grouping includes Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, the UK, and the USA, as well as a number of smaller European nations.

27 November 2013. Christians Need to Raise Their Voices…

00 Stop the Killing of Haitians. 27.11.13

______________________________

At present, there’s a razzia against Haitians in the Dominican Republic (here and here). It’s our duty as believing Christians who believe in the seamless garment to raise our voices. Firstly, to demand that the bloodshed stop. Secondly, that the USA withdraws its occupation forces from the island. You see, high-level American and UN officials coördinated a politically-motivated prosecution of ex-Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to prevent him from gaining more traction with the Haitian population and returning to Haiti. The USA and its allies poured millions of dollars into unsuccessful efforts to slander Aristide as a drug trafficker, human rights violator, and heretical practitioner of voodoo. Our hands aren’t clean… in any case, for the USA to claim that Haiti’s corrupt after we lionise such boodle champions as John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, well, I’d say that the Americans are hypocrites. They’re far more corrupt than any penny-ante Haitian pol…

There’s a small ROCOR mission in Haiti that could use a hand. Go to this website, get in touch with these guys, and ask about Project Haiti… they DO need a fin or two for the good work…

The Associated Press reported that American scientist Paul Sikkel named a new kind of tiny crustacean in honour of the legendary reggae artist Bob Marley. Sikkel discovered the new species, with the official name of Gnathia marleyi, about ten years ago on a Caribbean coral reef near the Virgin Islands. So, the biologist decided to pay respects in a distinctive way to the famous Jamaican singer.

VOR Presents… Sixteen-Year-Old Laura Dekker Completes Solo Circumnavigation

******

******

Laura Dekker is the world’s youngest solo circumnavigator, who sailed alone around the globe. Laura embarked on her solo voyage from the Caribbean island of St Maarten on 20 January 2011, and returned unscathed a year and a day later. In the second image above, we see Laura’s yacht Guppy in St Maarten at the end of her voyage.

Teen captain Laura Dekker sailed 27,000 nautical miles on her 11.5-metre (38-foot) sailboat Guppy. On 21 January 2012, her boat docked in  the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean.

A small fleet of vessels and Coast Guard vessels met the young adventurer at the harbour at St Maarten; she finally reunited with her parents later at a formal party in a local yacht club.

******

Laura Dekker was born 20 September 1995 in New Zealand, when her parents were making a round-the globe-journey of their own, and spent the first four years of her life at sea.

******

Laura’s an experienced yachtswoman. She first sailed on the open sea when she was six, and she nurtured the dream of sailing solo around the globe since the age of ten.

Laura announced her plan to embark on a solo round-the world voyage when she was 14. However, the Dutch Council for Child Care spoke out against the risky adventure, issuing an injunction prohibiting her from making vital decisions and putting her under state and psychiatric care. In December 2009, Laura violated the court’s decision and ran off to St Maarten, where the authorities apprehended her and brought her back home. In the image above, we see the Guppy at the end of Laura’s adventure.

******

In July 2010, a Dutch court finally permitted Laura to make her solo round-the-globe journey. After completing preparations, the Guppy sailed from the Antilles on 20 January 2011.

******

Laura Dekker celebrated her sixteenth birthday at sea. Until recently, Australian Jessica Watson, 17, was considered the world’s youngest circumnavigator, having made a 210-day non-stop solo voyage around the world. Nevertheless, Laura’s record won’t make it into the Guinness Book of World Records, since officials refused to register records achieved by young navigators after Dekker’s 2009 fallout with social care services {if that isn’t “goodthinking” in the Orwellian sense, I don’t know what it is: editor}.
