For them not in the know, Roman Abramovich is one of the richest oligarchs. At the time of the Khodorkovsky affair, Putin rusticated Abramovich to the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, albeit as Governor. Nonetheless, Abramovich got the message, and got it fast. He didn’t try to play with VVP’s cookies, no way, no how. However, does this mean that Abramovich is absolved, or, does it mean that he’s deeper in the kimchi? We’ll all have to see, won’t we?

Roman Abramovich voluntarily resigned as the deputy speaker of the parliament of Chukotka because of a law banning lawmakers from owning property abroad. Sergei Yolkin gives the gimlet eye to all of that.

Chuck has lived with a friend for eleven years, ever since he was a chick. “He’s truly smarter than a lot of people. In fact, his intelligence is scary at times”. The last image is a little lost polar bear in Chukotka… we use it for wallpaper on our desktop… Nicky loves him.

It’s been a while since my last “Little Brothers” post… it’s time to get back into the habit of doing it, at least weekly… it’s fun. However, I’m no PETA nutter. Hunters and fishermen are the best! They’re the people with the greatest respect for animals that I know… as one said to me, “You only kill what you can use… God will get even with you if you kill for funsies”. Another friend, a farmer, said, “Pests gotta go, but if they stay off my land, I don’t go looking for them. If I shoot a groundhog, though, it goes in the pot, and its good eating, let me tell you”.

We share the world with God’s creatures…

Here’s everybody’s favourite bear… from Masha i Medved (Masha and the Bear) from Spokoiny Nochi, Malyshi! (Good Night, Kids!)… Russia’s fave kid’s show on at the end of the “kid day” at 19.30 (all of the old USSR knows Dyadya Volodya and Tyotya Valya… the hosts in the ’60s and ’70s)

Gennady Pilipenko, Deputy Head of the Federal Tourism Agency, said that the Russian government wants to open overseas information centres on the possibilities of tourism in Russia outside of the two capitals, whose potential remains untapped. Pilipenko headed the Russian delegation at the London international tourist exhibition World Travel Market 2009, at which Russian regions such as Kaliningrad Oblast, Buryatia, and Chukotka shared a single booth, and Ivanovo Oblast had a stand-alone presentation. He said, “The various regions are ready to show off their tourist attractions, and rightly so”.

18 January 2012. A Photo Essay. Only in Russia… A Baby Polar Bear Saved in Chukotka

Local residents found this cute little Polar Bear cub in Chukotka after poachers killed its mother. The cub would’ve starved to death if a kind-hearted family hadn’t sheltered it.
