It’s been 22 years since the passing of Yevgeni Pavlovich, one of the most well-loved Soviet actors on the stage and on the screen. He was a Peoples Artist of the USSR, known for his unpretentious and natural acting. Most of us know him as the voice of Vinni Pukh, the Sov version of Winnie the Pooh.

Last year, we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War, but 2015 had another, very important for our country, anniversary… the 500th anniversary of the death of the famous Russian saint and historical figure, Righteous St Iosif Volotsky. Oddly enough, many people in our country, including Orthodox Christians, don’t know this podvizhnik* and of his great deeds. In order to correct this, there is a new film, Воин Духа (Voin Dukha: The Spiritual Warrior). The film involved many people… with special thanks to People’s Artist of the Russian Federation N P Burlyayev, and actor, athlete, and TV personality S N Badyuk. Most of all, we thank the star of the movie, world MMA champion A A Oleynik (he’s also a standout star in Grappling and Sambo). This film isn’t a commercial venture, you can show it to your associates and organisations; if you have any further questions, please contact me at evm@svetfavora.ru. We hope that our film will prove interesting and useful for you. Reposts are welcome; even more so as we’re building a large church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in Belyayevо, and we need your support.

  • Podvizhnik: impossible to “English” this word… some use “spiritual athlete”… the problem is that Russian doesn’t use this as a “spiritual” or “theological” word. For instance, Yu A Gagarin was a podvizhnik… a podvizhnik is someone who does a podvig. Podvig is one of the most powerful words in the Russian language. There are literally no English equivalents strong enough. Podvig has overtones of “epic”, “heroic”, “bravery”, “self-sacrifice”, “victory”, “effort”, and “triumph”. It’s best to leave it as is, and admit that English lacks the necessary material to give meaning to this word.

13 March 2016. New Movie on the Heroic Panfilovtsy of the VOV

______________________________

The “Panfilovtsy” were the men of the 316 Rifle Division (the term Panfilovtsy comes from the name of Major General I V Panfilov, the divisional commander… he fell in battle before Moscow), who helped stop the Nazis in front of Moscow. This new movie, The 28 Panfilovtsev (it’s tough to English this… an idiomatic translation would be The 28 Guys from Panfilov’s Lot or Panfilov’s 28) is a gritty and uncompromising telling of the story of the bravery of the Red Army soldiers who stopped the fascist filth and threw them back to Berlin. The uniforms and equipment are authentic (or made to look authentic)… it’s meant to be an uncompromising unemotional retelling of how Russians beat back Western aggression… that does have contemporary overtones, doesn’t it? After its brave (and quite real) podvig* of resistance against the fascists, the division became the 8 Guards Division Panfilovskaya.

  • Podvig: Should NEVER be “Englished”… one of the most powerful words in the Russian language.

Note well that the American “conservative” filth spread lies about the bravery of these men… no Russian or Orthodox Christian can have ANYTHING to do with such amoral greedsters and liars. Why congregate with those who lie about us, believe us inferior, who want to slice our throats, and whose intent is to destroy our faith and culture? The Western irreligious are merely irritants, they’re no existential threat, but Western “conservatives” want to replace the True Faith with treacly “Evangelical” goo and replace godly Slavic coöperation and communitarianism with selfish Anglo greed and godless “Free Markets”. Friends don’t let friends have ANYTHING to do with Republicans or “Evangelicals”…
