Patriarch Kirill Sez that the Foes of the Church Aimed a Premeditated Blow Against It

Editor’s Note:

English version expanded and corrected using materials from the Russian side of RIA-Novosti. Many thanks to the priest-friend who sent me on the cut n’ paste… it simplified my task enormously. As I always say, this site is NOT an isolated individual effort (God spare me from that… that’s a denial of the Church).

On Sunday, during a broadcast of the TV programme Вести недели (Vesti Nedeli: News of the Week) on the channel Россия-1 (Rossiya-1: Russia-1), Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias stated that the Church sustained an intentional blow recently, intended to test the depth of faith of its believers. As of late, the Church came in for unprecedented criticism both at home and abroad over the case surrounding the punk group Pussy Riot and the perceived luxurious lifestyle of its leading figures. His Holiness noted, “I can’t get rid of the thought that it was a kind of probing attack to check the depth of the faith and devotion to Orthodoxy in Russia. In fact, many such opinions were long-repressed, but it also brought to light the long-buried ability of our people to organise themselves to protect their values, to defend their outlook. I won’t quote some of the offensive remarks made against our people by some in the so-called creative class, but they were generally derogatory from start to finish”.

On 17 August, a Moscow court sentenced three Pussy Riot punk group members, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, to two years in prison over a “punk prayer” in Moscow’s largest cathedral in a trial that attracted both mass media attention and sharp international criticism. Lawyers for the group say that their clients’ actions were a protest against overt Church support for Vladimir Putin ahead of the 4 March presidential poll that returned the former KGB officer to the Kremlin. Less than a month before the election, Patriarch Kirill called Putin’s first two presidential terms a “miracle from God” in a televised meeting.

In his view, the time for such a test was ripe, especially, since everyone saw what happened in Russia in connection with the visit of the Vatopedi delegation to Russia carrying the Belt of the Mother of God. “Do recall the reaction of those millions of people who came to bow before the relic. Therefore, apparently, it’s time to check whether our people are committed to the faith, and whether they’ll do anything to protect it… today, I think that those who made such provocations can see that the people aren’t a faceless amorphous mass, and they can now see that the people are able to defend what they hold holy”.

Vladyki Kirill described the problem facing us wasn’t just aggression against the Church, but also an attack “against the heart of our culture, against the very basis of our civilisation. However, such sallies always fail. Look at what the statistics say. The vast majority don’t want public blasphemy. Only a small percentage approve of blasphemy and social deviation. The vast majority are in favour of laws that’d limit the spread of sin. What does that mean? It means that a sense of morality is alive in the people”.

He pointed up that one avenue of attack against the Church were accusations that there are elements fomenting a union between the Church and State, saying, “It’s a myth; a deliberately-created myth. After all, if you wish to attack the Church, you need to stake out your ideological position. That’s what we’re seeing today. One of the central tenets of the myth about a union of Church and State is that the clergy are trying to run our lives. Why do they say this? It’s to show that a union of Church and State has the intent of controlling your mind and your will”. He observed that he’s issued no document, approved any statement, or made any public utterance that could support such a thesis.

His Holiness went on to say, “In the past 20 years, our Church, which earlier faced charges of inaction, of being unable to carry out its mission in the modern world, has achieved impressive results in reaching our people. Our people are becoming Orthodox. Today, just look at the crowds at the Easter services, at all the services in our parishes. Orthodox believers are people of all different ages and conditions. Therefore, why should we conclude from the fact that the President or Prime Minister pray together with the patriarch once or twice a year that there’s a union? Are we supposed to deprive these people, who’re believers, after all, of the right to worship with their patriarch?”

He said that his opponents tried to prove that a relationship existed between Church and State by the fact that the Patriarch visited a submarine base at Vilyuchinsk, noting, “What of it? Are we to conclude that there’s a union of Church and State in the USA because the US forces have chaplains in Afghanistan? Furthermore, don’t the regular armies of almost all European countries have regularly-appointed chaplains? I went there because the sailors invited me to visit them. I came to visit my flock because most of the sailors are believers. Where is there a so-called ‘union’ in that?” The Patriarch observed that such visits are pastoral calls by clergy, that they’re missionary outreach.

In April, Patriarch Kirill came under fire after he insisted in an interview with a Russian journalist that he’d never worn a 30,000 USD (955,000 Roubles. 23,500 Euros. 18,750 UK Pounds) Breguet watch that he received as a gift. He suggested that any photographs of him wearing the watch must have been doctored. However, attentive bloggers quickly discovered a photograph on the Church’s official website of Patriarch Kirill with the expensive watch on his wrist. Less than 24 hours later, someone had photoshopped the timepiece out of the photograph. Unfortunately for the Church, the inattentive editor left intact a telltale reflection of the luxury wristwatch on a varnished table, sparking weeks of online mockery. In mid-August, there was more unwanted publicity for the Church when the abbot of a downtown Moscow parish faced accusations of being drunk behind the wheel after a Maltese diplomatic vehicle he was driving ploughed into another vehicle. The online Gazeta.ru newspaper reported that witnesses said that Igumen Timofei’s eyes were “glazed and crazy” after the crash, but the abbot refused to take a breathalyser test.

Editor’s Note:

There’s nothing but ordinary “wheat n’ tares” here. If this is the worst that Ksenia Sobchak and Marat Gelman can come up with… it’s no biggie. After all, it’s not a Seraphim Storheim court case or that whole Sam Greene tits-up in Texas. Considering what’s been achieved in the last twenty years, what’s utterly amazing is that there’s been so LITTLE idiocy. The Church will survive Philaret Denisenko, Diomid Dzyuban, and Valentin Rusantsov... it did before, it shall again. However, we in America have a monstrous shit-pile in the byre to tackle. Having a lawyer unctuously intone, “We admit no wrongdoing” is satanic and demonic… there’s no other way of putting it. We either put things right or we won’t have a Church… full stop. After all, don’t you see signs of Laodicea in all too many quarters (especially, loud n’ strident “religious” ones)? I should be clear… I mean the reference to “poor, blind, and naked” (Apocalypse 3:17-18), not “I will spew thee out of my mouth” (Apocalypse 3:15-16).

Remember… the most foul flowers of the Evil One grow in the shadow of the altar… and all too many were planted by clerical hands…

21 November 2011. The OCA’s Secrecy about Dickie Wood’s Status is Ghastly and Counterproductive

“We suspended Dickie… but DON’T TELL ANYONE… IT’S A SECRET!”

If the Sobor supposedly “suspended” Dickie Wood, why did no one talk about it, and why did no one report it? Frankly, that was LOW. Unfortunately, Dickie’s become excess baggage for JP and Berzansky, and JP’s vicious when he’s crossed (typical of weak and blustering people) and Berzansky has fewer scruples than Ostap Bender did (typical of legal beagles in general, and of the ambitious in particular). I know, technically, suspending a priest isn’t an action of the Sobor at large; it’s an action of the Synod of Bishops, which takes place at their private meeting. Therefore, no one but the Synod of Bishops and some Syosset officials is aware that they took such action. There’s always a delay of two or three months before they get around to posting pastoral changes, so, if the most recent meeting of the Synod of Bishops suspended Dickie, the official statement wouldn’t come out until January or February! This gives them some time to deal with him, I suppose, but I frankly don’t get the secrecy either… does it have to do with Berzansky’s legal threats?

There’s something here that SMELLS… like putrefaction. If Dickie’s suspended… why the secrecy? WHY? When the Centre suspended Diomid Dzyuban (through an action of the Archpastoral Council), they announced it immediately, and it took effect immediately. There was NO shilly-shallying around… they didn’t take two to three months to announce it. Look at the situation with Osborne in England… the Centre held open meetings on everything; they averted a crisis. In the USA, the OCA bishops and the MC do everything in secret, which makes mountains out of every molehill, and ensures that every minor contretemps grows into a serious problem. It’s no way to run a railroad. Bishop Job of Happy Memory was right… it’s what we’ve done for years, and no one in power wants to stop it. That’s right… Lyonyo likes it… Behr likes it… Nescott likes it… JP likes it… they all like it. They all like the dark. What does that tell you about them as people? What does it say about us? Why do we put up with Velencia’s legal threats, Karlgut’s pressuring the faithful to sign “settlements”, and Behr’s pseudo-intellectual posturing? Why do we put up with Reardon’s nastiness, Bobby’s slipperiness, and Paul Meyendorff’s bloviating? It’s a crank institutional culture… it’s been such since the early ‘80s… if you were to ask the folks on Russian Hill in Mayfield, they’d agree with me. Something happened in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, and it wasn’t to the benefit of the rank n’ file believers.

I think that the SVS/Syosset apparat no longer cares for us… except as a source of funds. The days of Kyprian Borisevich, Leonty Turkevich, Dmitri Ressetar, Basil Stroyen, and Joseph Pishtey are over. Schmemann and Meyendorff killed them (by using their puppet Feodosy Lazor). The folks at Mayfield were right… something had changed, and NOT for the better. You can have the up-front honesty and directness of the Centre or you can have the slippery duplicity and dishonesty of the SVS/Syosset apparat (the ROCOR apparat’s just as bad and supports their OCA counterparts to the max).

Choose well…

AS for me, anyone who’d take a decision in secret and REFUSE to publicise it is beneath the contempt of all decent people… and not worthy of a single dime of your support. Ponder that, if you will…

Bishop Pitirim Volochkov of Syktyvkar and Vorkuta: “The purpose of Masonic ecumenism is building a global superstate”

Bishop Pitirim Volochkov of Syktyvkar and Vorkuta (1961- )

Masonic ecumenism promotes a ‘religion’ of ‘ecumenical meetings’, a ‘mere Christianity’, as it were. It’s a new ecumenical Baha’ism, seemingly quite innocuous, yet each of these religious practises has a goal and purpose. They’re to pave the way for a federal world government or world superstate, a Supreme Tribunal and an international executive body, with a future ‘deified’ leader, to suppress any country, community, or individual who dares to resist it”, according to a post of Vladyki Pitirim entitled Масонский экуменизм (Masonic ecumenism) on the official diocesan website. “Misguided Christian ecumenists embrace outright enemies of the Church such as the Freemasons; they say ‘nice’ things rather than accuse their interlocutors of paganism and ignorant heresy. All of them parrot groundless expressions not found in Holy Scripture or the Fathers, such as, ‘As they’re imprisoned in a ghetto, (Orthodox) society suffers from a lack of tolerance (relativism, etc)’… ‘Ecumenism is the spiritual foundation of tolerance’… ‘We suffer from spiritual illiteracy’. For example, the ecumenist K K Ivanov (a PhD who has wormed his way into the Church) said, ‘Get out of here with that point of view’… ‘Diversity in confession is our treasure’… ‘The most poisonous sorts (those who call themselves Orthodox) say there is only one truth’… ‘Their faith is a dangerous addiction’… ‘Everything that they talk about is a catastrophe’… ‘Catholics and Protestants have achieved such success that we have even not dreamed of’…  ‘What unites us is greater than what divides us’… ‘I did not use reason when I came to Orthodoxy’… ‘The church is just a different kind of family’… ‘When we speak of our faith, we mustn’t put Christ at the centre of it all’”.

As another example of ecumenism, Vladyki Pitirim cited a statement of Archpriest Georgi Mitrofanov. Fr Georgi said, “This is Christianity at its core … it’s a choice between godlessness and religiosity. When an Orthodox priest attacks sectarianism from the pulpit, he betrays the memory of the recent persecution of all Christians in our country. I don’t understand the inferiority complex of the Orthodox who think that they are succeeding when they denounce non-believers”. In response to these remarks, Vladyki Pitirim said, “Are they saying the Holy Great Martyr George the all-Victorious had an inferiority complex? Up to his death, he never ceased to denounce the pagans. Thus, ecumenists preach in all human sincerity, but not the truth. The only ecumenism that we can practise is one that stresses the oneness of Orthodoxy, for good reason, without any sort of common prayer. Heathens and heretics must repent of their separateness (this includes all the denominations), as the Holy Fathers of the Church taught us”.

Editor’s Note:

Well… they have braying overeducated jackasses in Russia too. Hmm… it looks like Vladyki Pitirim stuck a sock in it for them! The ecumenists are the same wherever you go. Whether it’s JP at the insane Lumen Gentium gasathon, or, if it’s Vassa Larina tutting at all us, saying that we believe in a “religion of fear”… Vladyki Pitirim gives such nonsense the tip of his boot. “Thus, ecumenists preach in all human sincerity, but not the truth. The only ecumenism that we can practise is one that stresses the oneness of Orthodoxy, for good reason, without any sort of common prayer. Heathens and heretics must repent of their separateness (this includes all the denominations), as the Holy Fathers of the Church taught us”. Amen! Play it again, Vladyki! That song sounds better the second or third time around! In short… if you hear bleats from the usual cast of suspects such as JP, Rod Dreher, Freddie Matthews-Greene, Reardon, New Skete, Vassa Larina, Andrei Psaryov, Behr, Herbel, or any other of the ecumaniacs… ignore ‘em. They’re out of step with the REAL Church. It’ll take some time… it won’t happen overnight… but their day is OVER. Oh… they’ve got a few blows left to deal out… that’s true. The more we stand and the taller we stand, the quicker it’ll be over. It won’t be painless or easy… but it’s worth doing… and worth doing right. By the way… Vladyki Pitirim timed the release of this post to coincide with the arrival of the Boy Wonder in his diocese. As Vladyki put it well, “I may have human sympathy for Diomid Dzyuban, but I remain loyal to Patriarch Kirill above all”. Don’t be fooled by the Boy Blunder’s impeccable English… he’s not what he appears to be (he’s another Philaret Denisenko… and Mark Golovkov is another Aleksei Rediger!).

It’s a Wonderful Day in the Neighbourhood

It’s time to send the carpetbaggers and scallywags packin’…

I received the following news tonight from a friend of mine who’s a priest in the MP… he is an acquaintance of Fr Vsevolod Chaplin and Prof Kirill Frolov, so his words carry some weight. The following is NOT official, but I’d say that it has a 75 percent probability, so, I’d ask you all to attend seriously to it.

I have it on very good authority that Metropolitan Jonas intends to open an OCA branch for dissident Episcopalians. As he says that he wants to be “Patriarch of America”, he wants to uniatise Anglicans just like the pope. Where will his megalomaniac ambition stop? This came from taking a priest, making him a bishop one day… and a metropolitan almost the next.

This is SERIOUS news, if it’s true, and I fear that it is. The Anglicans believe that JP promised them “intercommunion” and “recognition”, and this news fits that too closely, I’m afraid. What’s necessary is for the OCA to officially announce that it isn’t contemplating such a body… otherwise, be suspicious… JP and Hatfield didn’t go to Nashotah House for nought. Bear in mind that JP approves of the “Orthodox Feast of St Francis of Assisi”… he issued fulsome praise of the renegade community of quasi-Uniate turncoats that celebrates such a scandalous outrage (I’d direct you to the fully-Orthodox remarks of Prof Aleksei Osipov of the MDA concerning Francis of Assisi and Teresa of Avila… NO other Local Church allows such, be clear on THAT). Indeed, this has a relation to the information above.

There isn’t going to be any catechesis of the Anglicans… this is looking like a very bad replay of what JP did with the HOOMies in 2000… Note well that the Anglicans venerate Francis of Assisi… Hmm… isn’t it WONDERFUL that we’re getting people who glorify the spiritually-deluded as saints? It’s bad enough that New Skete has “icons” of Dorothy Day and Edith Stein in their chapel. Do we need more of this? The Anglicans aren’t Orthodox… neither is New Skete! ADS brought those vipers into the bosom of the Church… he didn’t see to it that an Orthodox superior was appointed to guide them nor did he condemn any of their disgraceful Uniate distortions of the ordo. Then, the questionable Stepford Wives-like HOOMies were brought in… Now, we’re to be subjected to Anglicans coming in without instruction. I’d say that would put JP and Co outside of the ambit of the Church.

Is this the logical end of the rebellion that began at the Cleveland Sobor in 1946? We have a first hierarch that was promoted to the top after a total of two months as a bishop… do compare that to Metropolitan Hilarion Kapral of the ROCOR, who was a bishop for 24 years and a ruling bishop for 12 years prior to being named First Hierarch. I don’t think that Vladyki Hilarion would’ve tolerated a single one of the scandals that currently plague the OCA. He wouldn’t have approved an “Orthodox Feast of St Francis of Assisi”… he wouldn’t have allowed former Anglicans to come into the Church without a proper period of instruction or inspection… he wouldn’t have allowed those who “lost” church records to remain either in positions of influence or as church-employees… I could go on, but, you get it by now, I’m sure.

Is it time to abandon the sinking ship? I’d say that we have only one church… for good or ill. It’s why it’s worth fighting for. When rotten hierarchs have arisen, the people get riled… then, the clergy follow… and, finally, the bishops expel the creep from amongst them. It happened with the iconoclasts, it happened with the Uniate scourge, and it happened as recently as 1999 in Yekaterinburg and in 2008 with the renegade Diomid Dzyuban. That’s to say, it’s a VERY Orthodox thing to do. After all, we aren’t passive Papists or wandering Protestants. Orthodox stand and fight… for there’s only ONE church, and she’s the Bride of Christ, and if we were to lose her… we’d lose everything.

Take a look at the following video. It is the original version of Dixie

Inspiring stuff, no? It’s time to stand up and say NO to JP and his fellow Quislings. Oh, by the way, “John”… don’t criticise me unless you can get definitive information from OCA official sources that the coming Unia with heretical Anglicans isn’t going to happen. Also, do observe that I noted at the outset that I hoped that the information I received wasn’t true. However… the chances of that are slight given JP’s fibs concerning his past… especially, his connections with the defrocked Gleb Podmoshensky, the nature of his residence at Valaam, and his relations with the HOOMies. Everything in his official bio on these topics is either false or misleading. You’re checkmated, “John”… you and Ad Orientem are being used… grow up and wise up.

It’s a wonderful day in the neighbourhood! Those who destroy records (“they simply do not exist”, according to Eric Tosi) link hands with unrepentant Uniates (that is, New Skete); those who welcomed the abusive HOOMies (if you wish the truth, look at pokrov.org) are now preparing to welcome Anglican heretics. I’ve nothing against Anglicans… but they are NOT Orthodox and no amount of hot air can change that elemental fact.

We can fight for our church as our ancestors did under St Aleksandr Nevsky and the heroes Minin and Pozharsky, or, we don’t deserve it! We should chase the rascals and scallywags out, just as they did. Now, THAT would be “a wonderful day in the neighbourhood”.

What say you?
