11 January 2014. A Note From Your Indefatigable Editor… Niagara Falls DOESN’T Freeze Solid, Even in Cold Snaps

As I live in upstate New York, I might know a thing or two about local winters. Yes, it does get plenty cold. It always does. There’s always freezing on the rivers, and the spring thaw is always dicey as a result. The farther you go from the sea, the colder it gets. That’s why Albany’s winters are relatively mild for the region, and why the St Lawrence Valley is better off than some areas farther from the ocean winds. Of course, winters in the Upper Midwest and on the Canadian Prairies are the most brutal, leading to bumper stickers in Fargo and Edmonton reading, “40 Below Keeps the Riff-Raff Out”.

I know people in the Buffalo area… they all tell me that Niagara Falls NEVER freezes completely, even though winters are always Siberian-grade. A state trooper told me that they’re always on the lookout for nutters who try to walk across the ice… it never freezes “solid” (there’s always water underneath), so, this makes winter “interesting” for them. He said, “I don’t mind summer, it’s just crowds, drunks, and a few scuffles. Winter… you’ve got to keep an eye out at all times for idiots trying to walk on the ice. It’s dangerous, we fish out a body every winter, it seems”. Niagara Falls freezing solid is an urban legend, along with cats in the microwave and alligators in the sewers.

Oh, yes… Niagara Falls did “stop” once, in the 1840s. However, that was due to ice floes on the Niagara River, NOT the Falls freezing solid. That’s the only time that happened in historical memory. Sorry, kids…

Read this and this. Note well that this was two days late. This should have been up on Monday, but we all know about Lil’ Mizz Ginny and Slowpoke Matusiak. In fact, Lil’ Mizz Ginny had the obligation and duty to have announced such a pastoral visitation at least two weeks in advance. That’s how pros do it… that’s how Vladimir Romanovich does it. His Nibs is open about his schedule… he wants people to know what’s going on. This secretive poseur gallivants off to Canada (God alone knows how he afforded it… times being what they are), AND TELLS NO ONE. You complained about Herman? Guess what? This jabonie makes Herman look open and accommodating.

I’m going to lay even money that Fathausen was in Edmonton to confab with Storheim and Storheim’s shyster (Storheim was in the church, and there were kids present… isn’t that a violation of his bail agreement?). The guy has a sick penchant for secrecy, doesn’t he? He won’t tell us about Dickie Wood’s whereabouts and exact situation, and, now, this. Where’s he getting the money for all this “confidential” junketing? It certainly wasn’t budgeted! Compare Fathausen to His Holiness! His Holiness is open about his upcoming schedule, everyone knows where he’s going, and who’s coming to visit him. The news is up pronto, Vlad Legoida sees to it. Don’t forget, El Gordo believes in the uncanonical Brum Doctrine… he truly believes that he’s a Junior Pope, whom no one can restrict. Note well that there’s no more talk of that phoney “evaluation”. Fathausen lied, yet again… and you’re suckers if you believe him further. Fathausen makes Nikon Mironov (the former Bishop of Yekaterinburg, defrocked for homosexuality) look absolutely grounded and canonical.

It all looks familiar, doesn’t it? Watch for the crackbrained crowd at Monomakhos and OCA Truth to crank up the “spin cycle”… I wonder how they’re going to try to crawl out of this one. I just watched a lovely vid about the late Fr Vladimir Prislopsky… and, then, this shit hits the fan. One of these things is NOT like the other! Whom do you prefer? Do you prefer upright men like the late Fr Vladimir or do you prefer scheming scoundrels like El Gordo? For me, there’s no contest! I prefer the Metropolia’s modest honesty to the OCA’s strutting hubris. This is TOO much of a muchness…

Abuse Case Court Date Set

The case of an Orthodox archbishop facing sex-crime charges in Manitoba is headed back to court for a preliminary inquiry later this fall. Archbishop Seraphim Storheim was the highest-ranking Canadian cleric in the Orthodox Church of America until church officials suspended him in November 2010. Winnipeg police laid charges following the church’s suspension. The preliminary inquiry is scheduled for two days in mid-November, Storheim’s lawyer, Jeff Gindin, said Friday. The charges against Storheim came after a lengthy police investigation into allegations the former Winnipeg cleric sexually abused two teenage boys 30 years ago. A Chicago-based advocacy group for victims of sexual abuse that’s monitoring the case said in an e-mail Friday the archbishop may be violating his bail conditions… to avoid contact with minors… by visiting a church this weekend in Victoria BC. Not likely, according to his lawyer. Gindin said his client is restricted to two addresses, one in Edmonton, and another in Ottawa. One is his home, and the other is his sister’s house. Even to visit his sister, the cleric must submit dates of the trip through his lawyer before the court approves the travel. “He’s got certain bail conditions, and as far as I know, he’s abiding by every one of them”, Gindin said.
