10 September 2011. Don’t Try This at Home Without Adult Supervision… “It Was a Good Idea at the Time”…

I saw this on one of my fave Russian sites… Swiss daredevil Freddy Nock balances on a cable ropeway leading to the summit of the highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze (2,962 metres (9,718 feet)), near the resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Regierungsbezirk Oberbayern. Bundesland Bayern). At a charity event, Nock walked 995 metres (3,265 feet) up the cable to beat his own record.

Don’t try this yourself… please…

Armin Gögren, an ornithologist from Bavaria who can imitate several dozen bird calls, came to the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East to carry out research work at the Kronotsky Nature Reserve. Gögren started imitating birds at the age of six. This ability led to his choice of a profession. In recent years, Gögren worked as a researcher with the municipal government of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southern Germany. He is one of the few ornithologists with this rare talent. “I’ve read much on and studied photos of the avifauna of the peninsula, for me, it’s true exotica. In addition, in Germany, there’s always a road, you can reach almost anywhere easily by car and take measurements. However, your scientists are pioneers; they encounter extreme conditions in the field. Nevertheless, it’s well worth it, for the natural habitat in the Kronotsky Nature Reserve is pristine and pure”, a spokesman for the reserve quoted Gögren as saying.
