When Kim Davis first entered the spotlight, she handled pro-equality protestors by asking them to leave the Rowan County courthouse under the authority of God. On Monday, Davis will have the opportunity to respond to a different kind of protest when the Westboro Baptist Church arrives on her doorstep. The infamous hate group announced their plans to picket Davis’ workplace because she’s a “self-righteous hypocrite” and “fake Christian” with an adulterous past. A media release read in part:
As it happened, the Supreme Court of the United States, fulfilling their destiny, made same-sex marriage the law of the land. The duty of all mankind is to OBEY the laws of God and the laws of man. Enter, Kim Davis. Rowan County Kentucky Clerk, with high-dollar salary and digs, she acquired, ONLY after she took an oath to uphold and defend the constitution and the laws. Kim claims that she has lived in proud sin for many years, divorcing and remarrying, not one time or two times, in fact you need a scorecard to keep track. Her lawyers, being smooth talking fellows say that all that was before her call to salvation two years ago when her current mother-in-law died. … These matters aren’t hard and unclear. That man that Kim Davis is living with and calling her husband, IS NOT! Her husband is Dwain Wallace, who she married when she was 18-years-old. It doesn’t matter how many years you pile on, it was adultery at the beginning, and it was adultery in the middle, and it’s indeed adultery today!
“God Hates Kim Davis” may just be the best sign they’re ever going to make.

This was my FB comment on this:
This is surreal… it’s Dalí without the spiritual insight… its Kafka without the underlying genius… it’s simply so absurd that even absurdity itself can’t contain it. Pass me the jug… this is too much of a muchness…
These are also interesting comments:
- This is definitely interesting. A group of people who twist Scripture to spread hate posits itself against another person who belongs to a sect that denies the Trinity. This would be entertaining if it weren’t so sad for the faith.
- So, is facing the wrath of Westboro Baptist kind of like having one of your songs parodied by Weird Al? Does it mean that, in some strange little corner of pop culture, somewhere, you’ve finally “made it?”
This is the true face of the Rabid Right… it’s vacuous, incoherent, and self-centred. That’s why the Repugs are steaming full-steam-ahead into disaster next year… they truly are that clueless.
This isn’t funny… its reality, and real people will get hurt before it’s over. I need to find a corner to be sick in…

Within my faith community there are some who’ve decided that “outing” other individuals is a Christian way of dealing with differences in sexual orientation. These messages are a response to that disturbing development, however, these quotes show Orthodox Christianity at its best and most authentic:

I posted this as a comment to the above:
There be dragons abroad… they mean what they say. I know this from personal experience. No one who doesn’t fit their idiosyncratic and Pretendodox criteria is fit for communion or even attendance at the Liturgy. Beware ALL who say, “I speak the truth in love”. Such people NEVER speak the truth nor do they EVER show any love (beyond their family circles and friends, that is, as our Lord Christ said, “Even the Pharisees do as much”). We live in perilous times. Have a care… I’m handing out the AKs, RPGs, axe handles, and dynamite at the back door…
