The ungrounded think that holiness resides in “purity” and fighting evil. It doesn’t. No way; no how. Holiness consists in overcoming our human inclination to do wrong to others. In short, to “love our neighbour as ourselves”. Until you’ve mastered that, I’d advise you to be silent on others’ faults… and to stop complaining to the bishops about those you consider “unclean”. I think that there are more than a few “logs” in the eyes of the konvertsy out there, wouldn’t you say?

Long Island Church Sued for Allowing Sexual Assault of 4-Year-Old by Priest’s Perv Teenage Son

A lawsuit filed Friday in Manhattan alleges that last year, a 4-year-old Long Island boy was sexually assaulted by the former parish priest’s teenage son on the grounds of a Greek Orthodox Church as the little boy’s 6-year-old sister watched in horror. The victims’ parents say the attack took place in May 2015 after Sunday services at Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Brookville NY. To protect the identities of the children, the Daily News isn’t naming the parents. In papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the parents say that while they chatted with the parish priest, the priest’s son, then a teenager, sodomised, fondled, and ejaculated on their half-naked son as his sister “helpless observed”. Immediately afterward, when the boy returned to his parents wearing no underwear and with his pants unbuttoned and the zipper down, his father asked him what happened. The suit says that the boy told him that the teenager had taken off his pants in a secluded area on church grounds.

According to the filing, the priest reacted by saying, “I know what’s going on and what happened”. The papers say the priest then “slammed his fists on the table … and uttered words to the effect: ‘I’m gonna kill him’”. The lawsuit says the priest and the child’s father found the teenager cowering in a closet. The priest said, according to the filing, “This won’t happen again. You’re finished. You’re going to be arrested this time. The priest then told the victim’s father that he’d called the police and stated, ‘This has happened before and he has to learn’”. The parents accuse the church of knowing about the teenager’s behaviour and failing to protect the parish children by keeping him away or warning parents of the danger. Demanding 10 million USD in damages for each child, they say their children are now fearful about their safety, losing sleep, depressed, and otherwise scarred. It is unclear from court papers if police pressed charges on the teenager, who is identified by initials. The News is withholding the priest’s name to protect the son’s identity because he, too, is a minor. There was no response from the spokesman for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America or Archbishop Demetrios Trakatellis, who also were named as defendants in the lawsuit.

This is an excerpt of the original… I also had a friend at the Centre send me a Russian translation, what grammatical corrections exist below agree with the Russian, which is the main secular language of the Church (that is, it’s the language most in use by believers and clergy). The Fathers of the Holy Synod of Antioch noted that the meeting in Crete didn’t fulfil the required conditions to convene a preconciliar conference for a Great Council, according to the Rules of Procedure of all-Orthodox Preconciliar Conferences, adopted in 1986, still valid to date. The Rules of Procedure state that convoking such a conference requires the approval of the First Hierarchs of all the Local Orthodox Churches (Article 2) and that any decision taken must be through the unanimous vote of all the Orthodox Autocephalous Churches (Article 16). These conditions weren’t operative at the meeting in Crete.

The Fathers of the Holy Synod unanimously decided the following:

1. We consider the meeting in Crete a preliminary meeting towards a future all-Orthodox Council. Thus, we don’t consider its documents final. They’re still open to discussion and amendment upon convoking a Great all-Orthodox Council, one with the attendance and participation of all the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches.
2. We refuse to assign a conciliar character to any Orthodox meeting that doesn’t involve all the Orthodox Autocephalous Churches; we emphasise that the principle of unanimity remains an essential foundation for inter-Orthodox relationships. Thus, the Church of Antioch and all the East refuses to call the meeting in Crete a “Great Orthodox Council” or a “Great Holy Council”.
3. We affirm that whatever the meeting in Crete issued, its decisions and all other declarations, doesn’t bind the Patriarchate of Antioch and all the East under any circumstance.
4. We empower a “Committee for the Follow-Up on the Council’s Issues” to study the results and consequences of the meeting in Crete and to offer a detailed report to the Holy Synod of Antioch and all the East at its next meeting.
5. We shall send a letter detailing the decision of the Holy Synod of Antioch and all the East to all Autocephalous Orthodox Churches, as well as to civil and religious authorities abroad.
6. We call upon believers to join the Fathers of the Holy Synod of Antioch and all the East in praying for the preservation and the full manifestation of the unity of the Orthodox Christian witness in today’s world.
