Most Soviet children remember well the yellow fluffy protagonist of the popular children’s magazine Murzilka. The first issue came out exactly 90 years ago. Murzilka is a popular children’s literary magazine. Published since May 1924 for children aged 6-12, over its 89 years in print, this beloved children’s magazine never missed a release, not even during the war. From May 1924 to May 2011, more than 1,020 issues of the magazine appeared.  In 2011, Murzilka entered the Guinness Book of Records as the “longest-running children’s magazine”. Its mascot is the yellow fluffy fairy-tale creature Murzilka, which in turn got its name from an undersized forest prankster and troublemaker that existed in popular children’s books in the late 19th century… a little man in a frock coat, with a cane and monocle. One may compare it to the famous Yellow Kid Mickey Dugan, the lead comic strip character that ran from 1895 to 1898 in Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World, and later William Randolph Hearst’s New York Journal.

Editor:

The Amerikantsy Free Market banksters want Russia to scuttle the legacy of the USSR wholesale… they can kiss my ass! They want everyone to abandon their time-honoured ways and imitate them down to the smallest detail, including destroying all traditional norms. The Amerikantsy have to understand that not everyone is like them and not everyone wants to be like them. Much, if not most, of the USSR’s legacy was good… much of it was innocent and pure and yearned for a fair order of things… it was better, in fact, than the selfish rightwing “Rugged Individualist” Free Market rot spouted by the US Republican Party. Let’s put it plainly… you can have the healthy communitarianism spread by Murzilka or you can have the evil grasping insatiable Me First greed of the planned “communities” of American suburbia. You have a choice… choose well.

I choose selfless communitarianism… that was Our Lord Christ’s Choice, after all (he chose to be incarnate in a workman’s home… not in a rich man’s mansion)… I agree with G A Zyuganov, Christ WAS the First Communist!

VOR Presents… Sixteen-Year-Old Laura Dekker Completes Solo Circumnavigation

******

******

Laura Dekker is the world’s youngest solo circumnavigator, who sailed alone around the globe. Laura embarked on her solo voyage from the Caribbean island of St Maarten on 20 January 2011, and returned unscathed a year and a day later. In the second image above, we see Laura’s yacht Guppy in St Maarten at the end of her voyage.

Teen captain Laura Dekker sailed 27,000 nautical miles on her 11.5-metre (38-foot) sailboat Guppy. On 21 January 2012, her boat docked in  the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean.

A small fleet of vessels and Coast Guard vessels met the young adventurer at the harbour at St Maarten; she finally reunited with her parents later at a formal party in a local yacht club.

******

Laura Dekker was born 20 September 1995 in New Zealand, when her parents were making a round-the globe-journey of their own, and spent the first four years of her life at sea.

******

Laura’s an experienced yachtswoman. She first sailed on the open sea when she was six, and she nurtured the dream of sailing solo around the globe since the age of ten.

Laura announced her plan to embark on a solo round-the world voyage when she was 14. However, the Dutch Council for Child Care spoke out against the risky adventure, issuing an injunction prohibiting her from making vital decisions and putting her under state and psychiatric care. In December 2009, Laura violated the court’s decision and ran off to St Maarten, where the authorities apprehended her and brought her back home. In the image above, we see the Guppy at the end of Laura’s adventure.

In July 2010, a Dutch court finally permitted Laura to make her solo round-the-globe journey. After completing preparations, the Guppy sailed from the Antilles on 20 January 2011.

******

Laura Dekker celebrated her sixteenth birthday at sea. Until recently, Australian Jessica Watson, 17, was considered the world’s youngest circumnavigator, having made a 210-day non-stop solo voyage around the world. Nevertheless, Laura’s record won’t make it into the Guinness Book of World Records, since officials refused to register records achieved by young navigators after Dekker’s 2009 fallout with social care services {if that isn’t “goodthinking” in the Orwellian sense, I don’t know what it is: editor}.

VOR Presents… Byelorussian Athlete Pulled Along a 55-Tonne Dump Truck

On 30 October, in Minsk, in front of several thousand spectators, the Byelorussian athlete Kirill Shimko (who’s a Guinness Book of World Records holder) pulled along a 55-tonne (60.6-ton) BelAZ lorry and set new world record.

******

The new world record was set as part of the all-Republic campaign Сильная Беларусь! (Silnaya Belarus!: Strong Belarus!), which has the goal of encouraging young people to adopt healthy lifestyles and attend to their physical development. We should note that extreme power sports are becoming more popular in Byelorussia.

******

The 33-year old athlete set the new record set at the Minsk Hero City Monument on his third attempt. Before that, he tore in half two thick magazines tied together. He also tore apart a metal chain, which two motorcycles, driving in opposite directions, had previously failed to break {the chain was fastened to the two bikes… it doesn’t say what happened to the bikes or the bikers. Perspirin’ minds wanna know…: editor}.

******

In order to overcome inertia and tug along the BelAZ, Shimko had to exert a force equal to 700 kilogrammes (1,543 pounds), which meant that he had to have very strong ligaments and tendons. As Shimko admitted a week before this attempt, he had already tried to move the lorry, and all that he did was to injure his leg. However, this didn’t stop him from recovering his strength to have another go at the record.

******

Earlier, the Byelorussian strongmen Kirill Shimko and Pavel Soroka had already established a number of national records. They had pulled along a Boeing 737 passenger plane, a train with five passenger coaches, an Il-76 aircraft, and a T34 tank.
