Only in Russia… EMERCOM Saves Would-Be Jumper’s Life with Vodka

00 Russia. vodka. 30.01.13

On Tuesday, local EMERCOM sources said that first responders in the Siberian city of Irkutsk prevented a local man from jumping to his death with the help of a bottle of vodka. Without specifying when the incident took place, they said that a 28-year-old man, who appeared to be extremely drunk, was threatening to jump from the roof of a five-story residential building. First responders at the scene found it difficult to persuade the man to abandon his suicide attempt, noting, “It was hard negotiating with him; he demanded that we bring him another bottle of vodka or he’d jump”. One of his neighbours finally bought vodka for the man, whilst rescuers prepared a special landing pad to break his fall if he jumped. EMERCOM noted, “Alcohol lulled the young man’s vigilance. Sitting on a drainpipe, he took a gulp from the bottle of vodka, after which he grew thoughtful”. That gave rescuers “enough time to run up to him across the roof and fling a loop over him. Simultaneously, they seized the man by his legs from a balcony below the roof, which prevented him from jumping or falling down”. The man’s motives for threatening to kill himself are not known.

21 July 2013. You Can’t Make Up Shit Like This… Fired Circus Assistant Flees with Fox in Siberia

00 vixen fox. cartoon. 21.07.13

So far, a former circus worker who stole a vixen from his former employer has outfoxed police in eastern Siberia and led them on a wild-goose chase. On Friday, the Zabaikalsky Krai Prokuratura said on its official website that they suspect Gennady Pyatibratov, 24, of stealing the fox, called Eva, in revenge after his bosses fired him from his job as a travelling circus assistant for neglecting his duties. Initially, the circus management put the fox’s disappearance in late June down to an unlocked cage. However, a young local woman in Chita, where the circus was performing, said that she met Pyatibratov with a fox on a leash. The report said that the man stopped for a chat; he said that he was going west to Irkutsk. Pyatibratov and Eva remain at large, but police in both Zabaikalsky Krai and Irkutsk Oblast are on the lookout for the man and the vixen. The runaway circus assistant could face theft charges, punishable with up to two years in prison. His motives for taking the animal remain unclear.

MP Raised 7 Million Roubles for Aid to Syria in a Matter of Days

00 Russian money

A spokesman for the MP Department for Church Charity and Social Service stated that the MP raised more than 7 million Roubles (211,000 USD. 163,000 Euros. 140,000 UK Pounds) in donations to help Syria within a few days. Donations came in from dioceses, monasteries, parishes, and individuals. The fundraising drive to collect money to help the victims of the Syrian Civil War continues. Archpriest Vladimir Vigilyansky, the rector of the Church of St Tatiana at MGU, said, “I’m amazed at the amount of donations we collected last Sunday in our church. We raised 50,000 Roubles (1,500 USD. 1,160 Euros. 1,000 UK Pounds) on one Sunday afternoon… taking into account daylight saving time and the fact that we’re a small parish… that’s pretty good! We collected more this time than we did during the drive to aid needy Greeks. Next Sunday, we decided to repeat the collection [for Syrian aid]”.

Archpriest Aleksandr Talko, the head of the Department for Church Charity of the Vladivostok Diocese, rector of St John of Kronshtadt parish in Vladivostok, said that the cathedral put up a special box for the Syrian fund drive, and, so far, people are still putting in their donations, noting, “Even now, during the summer holidays, I think that people actively responded to His Holiness’ call”. Different cities sent their donations to the MP… Ufa, Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad, and Irkutsk. Donations even came in from Krymsk, which suffered devastating floods last year. This fund-drive was in response to a call to aid the victims of the Syrian Civil War from Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias. At the conclusion of the drive, the MP will send all monies collected to the Patriarchate of Antioch and all the East.

Editor’s Note:

The ROCOR is part of the MP, yet there’s no mention of this important fundraiser on its official website (at least, not in an easily noticed or accessible location). Note well that they had space for a diatribe against Stalin penned by Potapov, and space for a notice saying that Archbishop Kirill Dmitrieff received a bogus “award” from the specious pretender Maria Vladimirovna… but they had no space for a notice of this important fund drive to aid the victims of the Syrian Civil War. There was “no room at the inn” for the victims of the Syrian Civil War in the ROCOR… was that due to the fact that Potapov has ties to Radio Liberty, and that the US government opposes Russia’s role in that conflict? Perspirin’ minds wanna know… follow the money… it’ll lead you to the truth (sometimes, it’s unpleasant, but it’s still the truth)…

US State Department Sez Russian Laws and Policies Restrict Religious Freedom

00.01a Pussy Riot. Belarus. Romney Advisers. 02.10.12

According to an annual report released on Monday by the US State Department, Russia was amongst the countries (including Saudi Arabia, DPRK, Cuba, Iran, and China) that imposed restrictions on freedom of religion last year. US Secretary of State John Kerry commented to the press, “This report is a clear-eyed objective (sic!) look at the state of religious freedom around the world. When necessary, yes, it does directly call out some of our close friends, as well as some countries with whom we seek stronger ties. It does so in order to try to make progress, even though we know that it may cause some discomfort. But when countries undermine or attack religious freedom, they not only unjustly threaten those whom they target. They also threaten their country’s own stability… attacks on religious freedom are therefore both a moral and a strategic national security concern for the USA”.

According to the International Religious Freedom Report for 2012, the Russian government “targeted members of minority religious groups through the use of extremism charges to ban religious materials and restrict groups’ right to assemble”. It said authorities also “restricted religious minorities through detention, raids, denial of official registration with the Ministry of Justice (Minyust), and denial of visas to religious workers”. Suzan Johnson Cook, Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, a division of the US State Department that monitors religious persecution and discrimination around the world, said, “Religious freedom is essential for a stable, peaceful, and thriving society. … As this report makes clear, much work remains to be done”.

The report finds evidence of anti-Muslim sentiment and discrimination in Russia, as well as an increase in anti-Semitism, pointing to vandals in Russia painting a swastika on a fence at a St Petersburg synagogue in May 2012, and in July 2012, vandals painting a swastika on a synagogue wall in Irkutsk. The report alleged, “Members of minority religious groups continued to experience harassment and occasional physical attacks. Violent extremism in the North Caucasus region and an influx of Central Asian migrant workers led to negative attitudes in many regions toward traditionally-Muslim ethnic groups”.

Amongst the claimed instances that raised concern in Russia:

The report asserted, “There’s no state religion, but the Russian Orthodox Church and other ‘traditional’ religious communities received preferential consideration”. The annual report details the status of religious freedom in 195 countries throughout the world. Mandated by, and presented to, the US Congress, under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.

Editor’s Note:

BOO-HOO! Let’s all shudder together in unison. Americans have NO right at all to point fingers. Look at the vacuous anti-Muslim diatribes broadcast by the likes of Fox News, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and Peter King. You’d think that Muslims were responsible for cancer, the common cold, athlete’s foot, and the heartbreak of psoriasis. THIS is why America and Americans are hated throughout the whole world. “Why, we’re so good that all of you unwashed yobbos and wogs have to kiss our naked arse in full view of everybody, or we’ll send you ungrateful and disrespectful sods democracy on the bomb-racks of a USAF bomber”. That’s what it is, full stop… and no one can deny it. However, they got their comeuppance in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Iraq, they ended by putting a pro-Iranian junta in power (a delicious irony if there ever was one), and they can’t impose their diktat over the Hindu Kush, even though they’ve spent twelve years trying to do so.

This is more Anglo-Saxon posturing… yes, kids, it’s what you see amongst the konvertsy… we’re all so BACKWARD… but all we have to do is to follow the simon-pure WASPs, kiss their bums whenever they present them, and everything will be hunky-dory. Well, I don’t give such twaddle any truck any more… life is too short. Cross yourself, say “Slava Bogu”, and tell ‘em to their face, “Kiss my arse”… you’ll feel 100 percent better, and they won’t bother you any further (they WILL trash you behind your back, but them’s the breaks, kids). Silly sorts, aren’t they? It takes ALL kinds in our sinful-ginful world.
