30 March 2015. A Point to Ponder… Why is ISIS So Horrid and the KKK Not?

00 kkk and isis. politics. 30.03.15.jpg-large

Let’s see… is there much difference in the POV of ISIS and the KKK (I’d add in the White Citizens’ Councils and those like Lester Maddox)? I’d say much less than one would think. Actually, BOTH are perversions of major world religions. I know many Muslims… I don’t know a single terrorist amongst them. However, I wouldn’t say the same about some (a minority, but a palpable number) of the “Ukrainian Catholics” and Ukrainian Orthodox” that I’ve met. Terrorism isn’t a part of either Islam or Christianity. Full stop. Those who inject such into these faiths are heretics, no doubt about it. The hate spewed out upon Muslims by the ignorant is bullshit… I’ll stand tall and say so. ISIS is wrong for killing Christians in Mesopotamia… the KKK was wrong for lynching blacks… the Right Sector is wrong for deliberately shelling innocent civilians… I’d say that there was plenty of blame to go ’round on BOTH sides!

Guess what? Both Islam and Christianity are correct in saying that we live in a fallen world. Both are right in saying that the world is in need of redemption. Therefore, why should evil’s existence surprise us? Rather, we must wrestle with it… think on it… it’s a meaty point to ponder…

US House of Representatives Shamefully Backs Neo-Nazi Junta in Kiev… Nazi Symbols Blossom all Over Kiev

00 ukrainian rioter 02. 31.01.14

On Thursday, the US House of Representatives approved a bill backing loan guarantees for the neofascist Timoshenko junta. The measure passed in a 385-23 vote. The US Senate shall consider a similar bill backing 1 billion USD (36.12 billion Roubles. 1.1 billion CAD. 1.1 billion AUD. 722 million Euros. 598 million UK Pounds) in loan guarantees next week. If it passes the Senate, as expected, it’d go to the White House for US President Barack Obama to sign into law.

The Autonomous Republic of the Crimea (ARK) formed its own governmental bodies independent of the Timoshenko junta, as provided by a resolution passed at an emergency session of the Supreme Soviet of the ARK (VS ARK). According to a VS ARK media release, the ARK established its own ministries of justice, internal affairs, emergency situations, industrial policies, fuel and energy, and information and mass communications. It also formed its own Genprokuratura, special services, customs, tax, and prison services, and established social funds independent of those held by the junta. The VS ARK statement said, “we adopted this resolution with the aim to improve management of the social and economic development of the ARK, to optimise the executive organs, to guarantee the rights and freedoms of ARK residents, ethnic and civic accord, law, order and public security, as well as to ensure effective and well-coordinated operation of the executive authorities”.

After the seizure of Kiev’s City Hall, the first thing that the rioters did was to hang flags and insignia everywhere. Amongst them, one could easily see swastikas, Iron Crosses, Nazi SS lightning bolts, and the Celtic cross used by the Ku Klux Klan, as well as the “Stars and Bars” flag used by American slaveholders. It turns out that the “Stars n’ Bars” and the Klan cross are well-known symbols all over the world. The first association that they bring to mind is racism, followed by impressions of unwarranted terror, of oppression, and surely, of persecution of all people of colour struggling for a better life. It seemed like racists from around the world travelled to Kiev for a massive celebration. Everywhere you go on the streets, you see people with these symbols on their clothes. These people destroyed memorials and sacred places, beat people on the streets, burned books, and vandalised the KPU offices. During the Maidan events, they destroyed 25 statues of Lenin. Some of them required the use of heavy equipment, which these terrorists scrounged up somehow. There is multiple video evidence of their actions; it shows vandalism and disrespect of Ukrainian history.

We don’t need to tell you that symbols carry a message… and that people around the world understand their message. Sometimes, symbols urge people to begin a political or revolutionary movement. For instance, many streets and towns bear the names of great historic figures in liberation movements, like Dr Martin Luther King Jr. in recent times, most countries tried to eliminate any trace or reminder of injustice, any sign of racism, trying to bury it, as well as to ensure that we punish people who support this kind of ideology, as they oppress other people. However, it seems that the recent Ukrainian events derailed that movement.

Victoria Nuland, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, boasted that Washington committed more than 5 billion USD (181 billion Roubles. 5.5 billion CAD. 5.5 billion AUD. 3.6 billion Euros. 2.99 billion UK Pounds) to these “democratic forces” in the Ukraine. Nuland, along with other American diplomats and German politicians publicly supported racist elements in the Ukraine. They aren’t ashamed of their public support and favourable attitude towards the neo-Nazis of Svoboda and the Right Sector. They’re ready to give financial help to them. One would think that publicly hanging Confederate flags and fascist symbols is proof enough and warning enough to stay away from factions so obviously anti-democratic and intolerant, yet, Western politicians claim that they know better.

Russian EU envoy Vladimir Chizhov told Russian journalists in Brussels after Thursday’s early EU summit devoted to the Ukrainian crisis that the EU uses double standards in interpreting the Ukrainian Constitution, saying, “It looks rather strange that the EU assumed the right to interpret the Ukrainian Constitution at its own discretion to declare that the forthcoming referendum in the Crimea contradicts it, making it illegitimate. I’d advise everybody to be very careful when speaking about referendums. After all, they’re direct expressions of the people’s will. In all other respects, it’s still unsettled. The referendum isn’t very far away, just ten days from now. We should look at the results first. If the EU were genuinely concerned over whether the current events correspond with the Ukrainian constitution, then, it would’ve easily seen that in both Ukrainian constitutions, whether it be the 2010 version or the earlier 2004 version, whether it stipulated a presidential republic or a mixed parliamentary-presidential republic, just as in the constitutions of most other states, there exists a certain procedure for removing the head of state from power. That is, there are three options… the president can die, he can resign, or the legislature can impeach him. As far as it involves Yanukovich, none of the above applies. The only way that one can claim that the current authorities in Kiev are legitimate is if one turns a blind eye to the facts”.

Editor’s Note:

I hate to spoil the party, but I see a facet of the aid bill that the US government is ramming through the US Congress. You see, Republicans want to ease environmental restrictions on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage and transit, if not abolish them completely. They’re claiming that if the EPA eases or eliminates such restrictions, then, the USA would be able to supply all the Ukraine’s natural gas needs. That’s a crock… such moves wouldn’t be in time to save the junta… but the Republicans are cynically using this situation to advance this ploy (an old congressional trick, isn’t it? The US Congress isn’t the world standard for corruption and chicanery for nothing). It’s getting no play in the lamestream media, either Fox or CNN. I’ll betcha that Sir Rush won’t say a word about this either! He loves his Koch Brothers millions too much, doesn’t he? Pass this around… it’s the most important takeaway from the vote.

By the way, the aid package and the one proposed by the EU are shams. From the top, over 75 percent of the money must go to pay off the Ukraine’s foreign debt. That is, Western banks get their pound of flesh… the Ukrainian junta gets no real cash infusion… but they’re stuck with the bill and the interest. That’s low, kids… its crapitalist Three Card Monte at its finest… no one EVER wins at that game… except for the dealer. Reflect on that.

Jacksonville Residents Demand Renaming of Nathan Bedford Forrest High School

01 Bachmann cartoon r

Nathan Bedford Forrest High School is a public high school in the Duval County School District located on the Westside of Jacksonville FL. The district named the school for Nathan Bedford Forrest, Confederate General, and first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. It seems that the residents of Jacksonville don’t agree with the remnants of the racism of the Confederate States of America in 2013. With more than 157,000 signatures on petitions and growing mass pressure on the Duval County School Board, community activists are waging a campaign to rename Nathan Bedford Forrest High School.

From its opening in 1959, Forrest High School remained an all-white school until the fall of 1966, when the district allowed a small and carefully selected number of African-American students to enrol. Beginning in 1971, mandatory integration of Duval County Schools by federal district court order introduced a more diverse population, based on geographic attendance districts. Currently, over 1,800 students attend Forrest, 54 percent are African-American. In November 2006, activists submitted the latest in a long line of petitions to change the name of the high school to the Duval County School Board. Some students from Florida State College at Jacksonville wanted to have the school renamed in honour of Eartha M M White, a Jacksonville native and philanthropist, due to Forrest’s connection with the Klan. In November 2008, the Duval County School Board voted 5-2 to keep the name the same.

Spearheaded by the Jacksonville Progressive Coalition (JPC), the campaign to rename Forrest High School hopes to deal another blow against racism and the oppression of African-Americans as a nationality in the South. Mike Stovall, one of the JPC’s leading organisers and one of the architects of the rename campaign, said, “I think the Forrest issue is important to Jacksonville in a few ways. One, it’s a home-grown reaction to a history of subtle racism in this town… the hate under the polite exterior, as it were. Part of what we’re fighting is ignorance of, and the revision of, history”. In July 2013, local residents started a campaign to rename Forrest High School. As of 27 September 2013, the petition had over 113,000 signatures and growing. Today, more than 157,000 residents signed the petition.

The name “Nathan Bedford Forrest” is a blunt reminder of racist hatred, violence, and terror. Forrest was a brutal slave trader, he ordered the infamous Fort Pillow Massacre, and he led the KKK. At Fort Pillow, Forrest’s troops executed hundreds of captured and surrendered Union soldiers, most of whom were African-American, which Forrest bragged about in military dispatches. The United Daughters of the Confederacy chose the name to intimidate courageous African-American civil rights activists, many of them teenagers, struggling for freedom. Stovall said, “I don’t think we can talk about this fight and not talk about current and future students, and about the entirely different message that the city is sending to those kids”. Fernando Figueroa, an organiser with the JPC said, “We’re getting out in the community, so, it’s so clear that people want to rename the school”.

America Has No Problems

There are NO problems in America!

Editor’s Foreword:

This is played for laughs, VERY tongue-in-cheek, which means it’s a total hoot. Rightwingers would repeat it, thinking that Mr Kalder (a Scotsman) is praising the USA. There are many ways to deflate an opponent… Kalder’s method is clever and subtle. Mr Kalder skewers his target whilst appearing to praise them. Hat tip…

Problems, problems, everybody has problems. Look at Russia right now. Those protesters… they’ve got problems. If they don’t get prior permission for their rallies, they’ll now face fines of thousands of dollars. The opposition leaders have problems… the police raided their apartments, seized all their hi-tech gear, and “investigations are continuing”. Pussy Riot has problems. Ksenia Sobchak has problems… jeez… so many problems. Elsewhere it’s worse. Look at Egypt, where the Supreme Constitutional Court just dissolved parliament ahead of presidential elections between two decidedly unlovely candidates… its complete chaos; nobody knows what’s coming next… no wonder the folks are hopping mad! Then, there’s Europe, where the currency is about to slip down the drain. What about Libya, Syria, and Mali? The list goes on and on.

Thank goodness, I live in America, where we have no problems. You doubt me? Why, just look at a few recent news stories and you’ll be obliged to kneel before my Truth. Firstly, have you heard that in New Jersey the authorities just mandated seatbelts for cats and dogs? Oh, yes, my friends. If you don’t buckle up your beast, you get a fine of 250 to 1,000 dollars (8,160 to 32,640 Roubles. 200 to 800 Euros. 160 to 640 UK Pounds) for your callousness and disregard for public safety. That’s right… no longer will Fido be able to ride shotgun, fur flying in the breeze. See what I mean? Would the wise legislators of New Jersey be concerned about the seating arrangements of cats in trucks if they had serious issues, like homelessness, unemployment, or crime to think about? I don’t think so. Then, there’s the pleasant town of Middleborough in Massachusetts, where residents recently voted to approve a proposal from the local police chief to impose a 20 dollar (653 Roubles. 16 Euros. 12.75 UK Pounds) fine for public profanity. That’s right, life in Middleborough is so good that the sound of a teenager saying $#@! or &^%$#! is a big deal. Just try and imagine what kind of utopia the town must be. Oh, wait… you can’t, because you’ve so many problems. However, life is bliss, friends, and soon… with the disappearance of salty language from the streets… it’ll be perfection.

All right, I hear you cry, but what about John Travolta? He’s American and he’s got problems! This is true. Recently, the married Look Who’s Talking star faced accusations of pestering male masseurs for sex, and he was hit with sexual battery claims. This week, meanwhile, the National Enquirer reported that, in the 1980s, Travolta had an affair with his personal pilot, a man named Doug Gotterba. This could cause problems for Travolta in Hollywood, where producers have yet to green-light a film in which the action hero is gay. Compounding the actor’s woes, the Enquirer reports that Travolta’s lover objected to his fat, hairy body. On the other hand, the fact that anybody bothers to report this, and that I spent several minutes of my life reading about it, proves that in America we have no serious problems.

Which brings me to the Ku Klux Klan… you may have heard that a branch of the racist organisation wants to “adopt” a stretch of highway in Georgia, for which they would receive a little plaque thanking them for cleaning up the road. I’ll concede that this is a problem. Racists still exist. On the other hand, we can see improvement. Once upon a time, the KKK terrorised and murdered blacks, and people with links to the KKK infested the Democratic Party at the highest level. For instance, Hugo Black, Roosevelt’s first appointment to the Supreme Court joined the Klan in the 1920s, President Harry Truman was an ex-Klansman, and onetime Exalted Cyclops Robert Byrd… who filibustered the Civil Rights Act for 14 straight hours in 1964… only died in 2010. In 2008, however, the Democratic Party nominated a black man for president, and he subsequently won. KKK membership today consists largely of morons, sometimes married to their cousins, who meekly ask the state for permission to pick up litter on the highway. As it is, Georgia turned them down. America’s making great progress.

Lastly, you may have heard that America has a few economic problems. Nevertheless, this is a myth. How do I know this? Well, the president’s been spending a lot of time with his celebrity friends lately. In June alone, he attended at least six parties and dinners, where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Mariah Carey, Julia Roberts, and the lady with the long face from Sex and the City. He even gave Jon Bon Jovi a ride on Air Force One! Now, cynics might say he only wants their money, but I know better. The president enjoys downtime with friends, like the rest of us. It’s just that he has richer and more beautiful friends! Everything is beautiful and nothing hurts, my friends. Good luck with your problems. We don’t have any.
