Official Condolences of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias to US President Donald Trump Regarding the Shooting at the Texas Church

On Sunday 5 November 2017, during services at the Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs TX USA, an armed man went to the premises and started to shoot at random at the parishioners. He killed 26 people, amongst them children, adolescents, the elderly, and a pregnant woman. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias sent his condolences to US President Donald Trump.

Your Excellency, dear Mr President!

I deeply deplore the tragedy that occurred in the Baptist church in Sutherland Springs TX and I express my sincere condolences to you and the entire American people. This horrendous crime committed on a Sunday, a holy day for Christians, took away the lives of dozens of innocent people, amongst them defenceless old people, women, and children, stuns us with its demonic cruelty and cunning. It’s my belief that such acts of violence don’t and can’t have any justification. I ask you to convey my words of sympathy and support to the families of the victims and to the survivors of the shooting. I pray that our Gracious and Mankind-loving God will console all the afflicted and grant prompt healing to the wounded.

A friend from Russia made this comment:

It wasn’t a terakt*… it was only a crime. It was an enormity… it was massive… but it was a crime, not a terakt. The latter requires a political motivation lacking in this case. It was a crime based in hate, yes… however, it wasn’t a terakt with political or social ramifications. That’s how it looks like from here…

I agree with this assessment. The shooter was a criminal, not a terrorist. He killed out of hatred, not out of political conviction. The fact that he was Muslim, therefore, shouldn’t even enter anyone’s assessment of the action. He was a criminal, full stop, and his religious affiliation doesn’t matter one little bit, for it wasn’t a real motivation of the mass murder (let’s call it what it was). The guy had repressed homosexual urges. Such denial always leads to disaster. That is, whether we like it or not, the reason behind this murder wasn’t large… it was just a guy with “upstairs issues” “acting out”. I’m not minimising this… not at all. However, let’s keep it focused. The motivation behind this wasn’t hate of homosexuals or hate of the West… it was a nutter who had access to guns and ammo. It speaks loudly of the Second Amendment fanatics, doesn’t it? That’s a discussion that no one’s having, for fear of the Gun Lobby and the gun nutters.

On the other hand, when a rightwing activist killed a Labour Party MP in the UK, the media brushed him off as a “lone-wolf with mental problems”. One wonders… if the killer is a “Westerner”, they’re unrepresentative nutters. If the killer has any sort of “foreign” connections, they’re terrorists. This isn’t right… it doesn’t only misrepresent the killers… it dishonours the dead. You see, some are using the dead of Orlando to further their political aims and ambitions… misplaying it as a terakt. You see, if it’s only a crime, one can’t mine it for political gain. The victims are just as dead… the relatives and friends still grieve… the action remains reprehensible. However, no matter which way you spin it, it’s a crime, not terrorism. Sadly, there’s no larger meaning in it… save to remind us that we’ve been led astray long enough by the gun nutters and their deformation of the US Constitution… now, that’s something that we CAN change… but shall we?

Shall we act or shall we just follow the ethically dead?

Do we know the fate of the girls who poured the petrol into the Molotov Cocktails in front of the Odessa Dom Profsoyuzov? We don’t know. Today, where is Alla, Kristina, or Dasha? It may be they’re about to get married or have a holiday in Europe. Where are they now and how do they live? However, that’s a stupid question. They lead normal lives. They’re just girls who wanted to be happy. For that, the others must die.

The most foul actions involve the most ordinary people… many of whom simply get caught up in events or who are trying to avoid even worse situations. The people who poured the petrol into the bombs aren’t the criminals… those who planned the arson and egged others on are the criminals. That’s why John Demjanjuk was innocent… he was a perimeter guard at most… he ordered nothing; he planned nothing. The same with these girls… some were simply there when it happened… some wanted to impress some boy or some authority figure… some were afraid of what’d happen if they refused. Were they guilty? No… but they were part of a heinous crime…

We live in a fallen, fallen world… let those without sin cast the first stone…
