6 February 2019. THIS is How Cold It Was on Lake Michigan

________________________

THIS was Lake Michigan in Chicago IL during the recent Polar Vortex cold snap. It was -45 degrees (-48 Fahrenheit) still air, NOT wind chill. I’d be wearing my snuggies, to be sure. The guys would need a fur jockstrap and a full set of longjohns on top of that! I’ve been in Chicago in the winter, it’s brutal as all hell, but this year it was extra special, as the above photo indicates.

BRRR!!

6 December 2015. Winter Begins in Russia on 1 December…

00 another winter in siberia... 061215

______________________________

In Russia, people believe that winter begins on 1 December, NOT 21 December, and it only ends on 1 April, not 21 March. The above image is of a road in Krasnoyarsk Krai in late November. Any questions?

6 December 2015. The Polar Sunset in Murmansk… Sunrise Won’t Be Until 12 January

______________________________

The Polar Night lasts for 41 unbroken days in Murmansk in the Far North… it started on 2 December… it’ll end on 12 January. That is, it’ll be dark for New Year’s and Christmas, and the sun will only rise again a week before Epiphany. At least, here in Upstate New York, we have light from 08.00 to 16.00 at the solstice. That ain’t much, but it’s much better than Murmansk has, which is NOTHING.

DARK! For 41 whole days… no wonder the Russians invented vodka… now, that’s an “All-Nighter”…

Today was the first winter snowfall in St Petersburg. Yes, I know that winter by the calendar is a month away. However… this is Russia. Need I say more?
