It’s a Heat Wave! Get Out the Speedos! Record Warm Day in Moscow on 25 December

The Fobos weather monitoring centre said that Wednesday was Moscow’s warmest 25 December since 1910. A meteorologist said, “Today, we shattered the record of 3.1 degrees [37.58 degrees Fahrenheit] in Moscow, set in 1910. We registered air temperatures of up to 3.5 degrees [38.3 degrees Fahrenheit] this afternoon”. She said that they expect more weather records broken on Thursday.

In the original Russian text of the cartoon, Yolkin uses the word Милиции (Militsii: literally, “Militia”), the old name for the cops (now, they’re called полиция: politsiya). The former term remains in widespread colloquial use, so, I rendered it as “Cops”, the nearest English analogue.
