A Plea for Peace at the Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra

00 Yanukovich at the Kievo Pechersky Lavra. 23.01.14

______________________________

On 22 January, with the blessing of Metropolitan Vladimir Sabodan of Kiev and all the Ukraine, there was a molieben at the Assumption Cathedral of the Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra for the Ukrainian Day of National Unity. At the head of the clergy were Metropolitan Pavel Lebed of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl (Metropolitan Vicar), the Superior of the Lavra, and Metropolitan Antony Pakanich of Borispol and Brovary, the Chancellor of the UOC/MP. Concelebrating were Bishop Ilarion Shishkovsky of Makarov (Vicar of the Diocese of Kiev), Bishop Iosif Maslennikov of Romny and Buryn, Bishop Feodosy Snigiryov of Boyarka (Vicar of the Diocese of Kiev), Bishop Varsonofy Stolyar of Borodyanka (Vicar of the Diocese of Kiev), Bishop Damian Davydov of Fastov (Vicar of the Diocese of Kiev), and Bishop Nikolai Pochtovy of Vasilkov (Vicar of the Diocese of Kiev), along with many other clergy; besides this, many believers attended, including, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, Secretary of the National Security and Defence of the Ukraine Andrei Klyuyev, General Procurator of the Ukraine Viktor Pshonka, and Anatoly Prisyazhnyuk (former SBU general), the head of the Kiev Regional State Administration.

Before starting the service, referring to present events in Kiev, Metropolitan Antony urged believers to raise fervent prayer to God to end the violence and bring reconciliation of the warring parties. During the past day, there have been violent confrontations between police and rioters. A representative of the website Orthodoxy in the Ukraine asked Metropolitan Antony to give some comments on the continuing crisis. Vladyki Antony said, “Today, we celebrate the Ukrainian Day of National Unity with a sense of sadness and grief. The country is on the brink of the abyss. This morning, all of us heard the shocking news about the latest clashes in the centre of Kiev and the death of one of the rioters. Again, and yet again, the Church demands a stop to the violence. People! Come to your senses! Opposition leaders should make every effort to stop the rioters attacking the police. Straight away, the authorities and opposition should sit down at the negotiating table. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church reaffirms its readiness to mediate in such negotiations. This day is a symbol of the Ukrainian land’s unity and of the Ukrainian people’s unity. However, today, we show the world not collegiality, but confrontation and conflict. We can’t have a strong state if there’s no unity amongst the people, in which there’s no dialogue between the government, opposition, and civil society. We offer prayers for our country and for our people. May the Lord give us the wisdom not to destroy our own country, not to drown in the depths of Civil War”.

Editor’s Note:

Do note that the pro-Western suck-up Klichko didn’t show up. The only reason that Viktor Fyodorovich hasn’t crushed the criminal rioters without mercy as they deserve is that he’s a loyal spiritual son of the late Elder Zosima Sokur. He’s shown forbearance and patience with these unruly and violent elements. I think that if the rioters refuse to stop their thuggery, it’s time to take off the gloves. The Church should bless the security forces, then, they should move in to snuff out the rebels. Perhaps, that’d lead to Galicia seceding from the rest of the Ukraine… let them go… they’d find out that “independence” isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. It’d lead to consolidation of the Orthodox Ukrainian lands… let the Uniates go… let Zakarpattya be free of Galicia (they don’t deserve oppression from the Galician nutters)… then, there’d be peace. God willing, there’d be no need of a “population exchange”… but if the Uniates refuse to live in peace with us, that might be the only course.

Why must we live in such times?

By the way, the hierarchs were mostly men below 50… only two were above 50, and none were above 60. To put it bluntly, the legit Church isn’t a Church of the elderly; it isn’t a place of senescence. Don’t listen to Uniate and American propaganda. Stand with the REAL Church… that’s our DUTY as Orthodox Christians.

Are the ROCOR Rightwingers in Obedience to HH and Marking Victory Day or are They in Contempt of His Decree?

01 Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev Kharkov 2

______________________________

In 2011, Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russia issued a decree stating that all churches, monasteries, and establishments under his authority must serve a Molieben on Victory Day in memory of the deliverance of the people, “from a terrible deadly enemy, from such a danger that we hadn’t seen in our entire history”. In addition, sources at the Centre assure me that he also decreed that all parishes serve Pannikhida in memory of all those who fell in the VOV and for all the civilian victims of the war.

Perspirin’ minds wanna know… are Victor Potapov, James Paffhausen, Alexander Webster, Rod Dreher, and the monastery at Jordanville fulfilling this decree in letter and in spirit? Has the ROCOR forsworn its support of Nazi collaborators and their organisations (and their unwholesome repulsive ties with Western intelligence agencies)? Do they wear their St George Ribbons and Red Ribbons with all due dignity and thankfulness? That is, do they celebrate the Great Victory in all sincerity, gratitude, and joy? On the other hand, do they still believe that “Hitler was a friend of the Church?” To speak bluntly, there was no such thing as *Sergianism” (at least, not in the form used by ROCOR polemicists since the ’50s). It was a lie cooked up by Far Right Church circles… Sergei Stagorodsky was a great hero imprisoned TWICE for Christ’s sake, he preserved the Holy Church for posterity… shall the ROCOR apologise publicly for its support of the Nazis and the CIA (by the way, it’s the ONLY apology necessary)? Now, that’s a SERIOUS question. Quo vadis, ROCOR? After all, HH stated publicly that he held anti-Sergei opinions as a young man, but that he came to a better understanding with maturity, and that he regretted such a stance now.

That’s the question… perspirin’ minds wanna know… do they stand for the Great Victory that St Serafim Vyritsky prayed for… or, do they still favour the godless and grasping opponents of Russia and the Orthosphere in their heart-of-hearts? Will they come to their senses, disown the “culture wars“, and overturn the Golden Calf of Rightwing Politics? On the other hand, will they harden their hearts and continue to dance around it in Dionysian abandon drunk on the wine of Libertarianism to the tune of the Koch brothers? We’ll have to see, won’t we?

* Addendum:

In its journal of 25-27 October 1990, the MP Archpastoral Council stated that the church isn’t bound by the Declaration of Metropolitan Sergei Stagorodsky of 1927, but it accentuated:

With all truth, we emphasise that the Declaration of 1927 doesn’t contain anything contrary to the Word of God, it doesn’t contain heresy, thus, there was no reason to move away from the accepted Church administration. …

We’re accused of “trampling on the memory of New Martyrs and Confessors“. Here, we’ll definitely state that our Church never interrupted prayerful remembrance of the martyrs for Christ amongst our bishops and clergy. Now, the whole world knows, we’ve started the process of glorification, which according to ancient Church tradition should be outside the influence of ephemeral political trends. …

However, for a long time, the Mother Church has been lenient to its wayward children, despite the fact that in the difficult years of persecution their irresponsible behaviour deepened her wounds and increased her torment. Now, we’re still ready to understand and to forgive. Even despite the fact that the leadership of the ROCOR has strengthened the existing divisions, forming a parallel hierarchy by encouraging parishes on the canonical territory of the MP, we once again extend a hand to them, calling for an open and honest dialogue on all matters of disagreement between us. In this regard, we’re ready to have a public debate in Moscow or elsewhere (within a scientific church conference or otherwise) on all matters of life of our Church in this century, especially, in relation to the Declaration of 1927.

This journal was issued one year BEFORE the fall of the USSR. That is, the church revival was in full swing. For ten years after the release of this journal, the ROCOR stopped up its ears and continued to attack the MP at the behest of its Western sponsors. Let those with open minds see that the ROCOR circles who claim that the Mother Church “repented of Sergainism” aren’t speaking the whole truth (to put it charitably… some circles that state such aren’t culpable… they’d lose their situations if they didn’t repeat the party-line of the Hard Right).

Orthodox Church to Thank God for No Meteorite Blast Deaths

00l 22.04.12 Prayer Rally Moscow. Patr Kirill 02

______________________________

On Tuesday, the MP Diocese of Chelyabinsk said it’d organise a mass prayer {do they mean a Molieben of Thanksgiving in every parish and monastery?: editor} on Thursday evening to thank God that no deaths occurred during the recent meteorite blast. On 15 February, as the meteorite streaked through the sky over Chelyabinsk Oblast, the shockwave from the meteorite’s explosion in the atmosphere shattered windows and damaged walls in thousands of residential buildings. There were over 1,500 injuries, mostly from flying glass shards. The Diocese of Chelyabinsk posted on its website, “God saved Chelyabinsk and other cities and towns in the Urals from a terrible disaster. The meteorite blast claimed no human lives. Therefore, believers will gather on Thursday in Chelyabinsk churches to thank the Creator for preventing a possible catastrophe”. The prayers will begin at 18.30 local time (16.30 MSK. 12.30 UTC. 07.30 EST. 04.30 PST. 23.30 AEST).

Editor’s Note:

If one were to synchronise prayers with the mass prayer in Chelyabinsk, the above time zone equivalency should help you. In England, it’d be at the beginning of the afternoon, during lunch break… it’d be breakfast time in New York, right before work… it’d be half past dark in San Francisco (even the owls are still baggin’ Zs there)… in Sydney, it’d be the end of a long hot summer day (it’s the equivalent of a Northern Hemisphere August), half an hour before midnight. I think that it’d be a good idea… but that’s only me, mind you. Just sayin’…

In this image, we see A S Zaldostanov (“the Surgeon”), the head of the Night Wolves MC. We’re blessed to have such men amongst us… they’re head-and-shoulders above the posturing phonies pretending to be Orthodox Christians here in the diaspora. If I had to choose between the Night Wolves on one hand and Potapov, Paffhausen, Behr, Whiteford, Dreher, Maymon, Meyendorff Jr, Mattingly, Lebedeff, Lyonyo, Psaryov, Freddie M-G, and Jillions on the other, I’d choose the Night Wolves… and I wouldn’t be alone! In any case, the Night Wolves are much more FUN…

Oh, yes, “Liberal” means “conservative” in Anglosphere terms… the Church opposes the Free Market, the Perpetual War on Terror, Denial of Healthcare Rights, and “Deregulation”… I just thought that you’d like to know that…
