Hunter Mistakes Three Men for Boars and Shoots Them

Getting shot in place of wild game isn’t a prime concern for outdoor vacationers, but local investigators said that’s what happened to three men camping out in Sverdlovsk Oblast. The Oblast SKP said that four men were in a group hanging out near a local forest, but three of them were hit with bullets early on Friday. Without releasing the victims’ names, the SKP said that one of the victims, a high-ranking private security guard, died, whilst the other two had to be rushed to hospital in unspecified condition. Reports say that the shooter, who fled the scene in an off-road vehicle, was some 70 metres away from the picnic when he fired a hunting rifle. The perpetrator possibly mistook the men for boars in the dark, without elaborating on what exactly could prompt the hunter to confuse vacationers with wild swine. Police are looking for the hunter, who faces up to two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. This wouldn’t be the first instance of such an incident, last September, an elderly poacher in Tyumen Oblast shot his son-in-law dead during a hunting expedition. The victim, seemingly bored of waiting for the game, played a prank on his relative by imitating boar noises, prompting the man to take a wild shot in the dark that hit the target.

27 April 2012. You Can’t Make Up Shit Like This Department… Was He a “Party Animal?” We’ll Never Know If He Got the Honey…

In a truly memorable moment, you can see a bear falling from a tree after police tranquilised it in Colorado. The young bear, estimated to weigh between 150 and 200 pounds (68-91 kilos), had wandered onto the University of Colorado at Boulder campus and climbed into a tree, according to the CU Independent, which captured the stunning image. CU Police Department spokesman Ryan Huff told the paper, “[The bear] was tranquilised by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Department and it fell onto some mats that the Rec Center provided. It’s now in a cage and it’ll be relocated at a higher elevation”. Before the cops tranquilised it, the bear spent about two hours in a tree near the campus dorms. Reportedly, it landed safely.

8 April 2012. What a LOVELY Birthday…

Great Sacandaga Lake, Northville (Fulton County) NY USA, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York State.

Today, my Nicky gave me a lovely “birthday present”. This afternoon, we took a four-hour motor through the foothills of the Adirondacks, around Great Sacandaga Lake. As the “season” wasn’t “on” yet, the roads weren’t clogged, and we had a most beautiful clear spring day to wander about in. Thank God, we don’t live in a deadly dreadful place like Texas or Arizona… there’s a great variety of nature, places, and peoples within easy motoring distance. It was the best gift that my Nicky could’ve given me.

Thank you, dear…
