Oregon Cops Nick JP Pal on Kiddie Porn Rap

01 Paffhausen with Isidore Brittain

Paffhausen and Benjamin Peterson BEAMING at Brittain (he’s on the far left) … I’d say to His Holiness, “Ну, так что же? (Nu, tak chto zhe?: Well, what about it?) This asshole drags the Church’s good name in the gutter, sir… DO SOMETHING. He enabled evil in the OCA, don’t let him do the same in the ROCOR!”

The Cabinet tipped me off on this on Friday at about 16.00. However, since yesterday was Holy Friday, I didn’t start work on it until 01.30… posting or working on such shit wasn’t in keeping with the day’s solemnity and focus.

On Thursday, police arrested an Albany OR man who was a priest with an Orthodox church in the Lewisburg area on child pornography charges. On Friday, Stanley Brittain, 39, of Albany, faced 16 counts of first-degree encouraging child sex abuse in Linn County Circuit Court. Until last week, Brittain was associated with St Anne Orthodox Church, near Corvallis. Judge Thomas McHill set Brittain’s bail at 100,000 USD (3.57 million Roubles. 110,300 CAD. 107,200 AUD. 72,400 Euros. 59,600 UK Pounds), and appointed Arnold Poole as his attorney. Prosecutor Michael Wynhausen said that Brittain trafficked in hundreds, possibly thousands, of images and videos of young boys subjected to what Wynhausen termed “horrific” sexual abuse. He added that Brittain used methamphetamine before his arrest, saying, “At this point, the 16 counts are just a small fraction of the charges that could be levelled against him”.

The investigation into Brittain started in January, when police arrested a suspect in Oklahoma who was communicating with Brittain, Wynhausen said. Albany Police Detective Lieutenant Travis Giboney said that Brittain was an unpaid staff member and loosely affiliated with St Anne Orthodox Church. Captain Eric Carter added that there’s no evidence that Brittain was grooming potential victims from the congregation, “There’s nothing at the onset that leads us to believe (the crimes) were associated with the church”. Carter said that police haven’t identified any of the children from the images, “It’s all surrounding possession of what we could consider child pornography”.

On Thursday, at about 11.30 PDT, Albany detectives, with the assistance of the Oregon Department of Justice, served a search warrant on Brittain’s residence in the 2400 block of Eighth Avenue Southeast. Carter said that Brittain was cooperative, and authorities seized computers and other electronic devices. Brittain, a South Albany High School graduate, was known as Fr Isidore within the church. St Anne Orthodox Church began in the early 1990s and was originally in Albany. In 2003, the church purchased the historic Lewisburg Grange Hall and moved there. About 100 people now attend the church on a typical Sunday. Attempts to contact St Anne Orthodox Church for comment were unsuccessful on Friday, in part because of Good Friday services. The police investigation into Brittain continues, and those with information about the case can call (541) 917 7680.

Reaction from the Cabinet:

  • Holy shit.
  • Oh, sweet Lord! Here you have JP’s legacy… this is what happened because JP disregarded his suspension and failed to depose him. Oh, and don’t forget those who aided and abetted JP in this… enough said.
  • Jonah is basically living at St John’s (ROCOR) in DC… no official release, but there he is… proud as a Turk.

This is an evil legacy of Paffhausen. Besides which, the parish in Oregon is a HOOMie conventicle, and everyone’s heard the word that’s circulated about them, the least-bad of which is that they’re a bunch of hyperclericalists who kiss the ass of their priests and allow them to run roughshod over the people. Don’t forget, JP championed the HOOMies. He pushed for their inclusion in the OCA and for the automatic ordination of their “clergy” without any vetting whatsoever. This is a poisonous result of all that. I believe that the OCA Holy Synod should make Brittain cop a plea to all the charges. That’s the only way to make this “go away” with justice. Brittain belongs in the slam, full stop. Then, the OCA Holy Synod should write both the ROCOR and MP Holy Synods asking them not to receive Paffhausen. Paffhausen was the main enabler of Brittain; Benjamin Peterson was another. In all justice, Peterson would resign, but he won’t. As for JP, there’s an elegant canonical solution. A schemamonk may become a bishop, but if a bishop takes the schema, he stops being a bishop. That is, JP should take the schema and the OCA Holy Synod should send him off to Athos to live out his days in repentance. Any “release” to the ROCOR would become moot… I don’t think that the ROCOR wants such a piece of work at this point.

This is too much of a muchness. Tikhon Mollard’s smarmy reflection on the barren fig tree is too much, too. It applies to the OCA apparat, SVS, and to JP in particular. Expect nothing, though… Mollard will be his usual bovine self. I have to walk away from this shit for a while… Easter is coming up…

Addendum 03.20 EDT 19 April 2014:

One of the Cabineteers wrote:

One article says Brittain was defrocked last week, so I doubt the OCA will have any influence over him from here on out.

That may be so, but it doesn’t wipe out the past. Brittain dragged the OCA in the mud… and Peterson and Paffhausen enabled him to do it. Full stop.

Clergy Sex Abuse Victims Beg OCA Holy Synod to Defrock Archbishop Seraphim Storheim

01 hurt teddy bear child abuse

Storheim was OCA’s Highest Ranking Cleric in Canada: Found Guilty of Sexually Assaulting a Young Boy

SNAP to church officials: “You’re breaking your own abuse policy”

For more information:

Members of an abuse survivors’ group are urging OCA officials to defrock Canada’s highest ranking archbishop, who has been found guilty of molesting a child. Leaders of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, say that the denomination’s panel which is responsible for disciplining clergymen is breaking church policy by not permanently ousting Archbishop Seraphim Storheim, who was convicted in January of sexually violating an 11-year-old boy.

The synod of bishops of the Long Island-based Orthodox Church in America (OCA) will begin its spring session in Syosset NY tomorrow. Among the items on their agenda are further “decisions” concerning Storheim.

The Policies, Standards, and Procedures on Sexual Misconduct, approved by the OCA’s synod at their Fall 2013 meeting, state that “Any clergy … found to have committed child sexual abuse … shall be deposed by the Holy Synod of Bishops, and shall be permanently prohibited from exercising any functions or responsibilities of parish ministry. …”

Cappy Larson of SNAP said, “This is a no-brainer and should’ve happened weeks ago. Both Archbishop Seraphim’s guilt and church policy are crystal clear. Church officials’ delays and indecision are helping a criminal and hurting his victims”. SNAP is writing to the synod, pleading with them to enforce their abuse policy. Melanie Jula Sakoda, also of SNAP, said, “Let’s make sure that this convicted child molester can never again use his religious titles or roles to get access to and hurt another child”.

From 1990 until his suspension in November of 2010, Storheim headed the OCA’s Archdiocese of Canada, based in Ottawa ON. Prior to that, he worked in Edmonton AB, Winnipeg MB, London ON, Charlotte NC in the USA, and in Finland.

00 No Tolerance for Child Abuse. 23.10.12

The text of SNAP’s letter, sent today by fax and email to nine bishops (names at bottom), is here:

Dear Sirs:

Archbishop Seraphim Storheim was convicted of the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old boy on January 24, 2014. Section 10.05(B) of your newly adopted Policies, Standards, and Procedures on Sexual Misconduct states clearly that, “Any Clergy who … is found to have committed child sexual abuse … shall be deposed by the Holy Synod of Bishops, and shall be permanently prohibited from exercising any functions or responsibilities of parish ministry. …”

Please Gentlemen, Archbishop Seraphim has been found guilty in a court of law of child sexual abuse. Although the judge did not find that there was enough evidence to convict the archbishop of abusing the boy’s twin, his allegation is certainly credible and should also be taken into account.

We know that there is a very active group supporting the archbishop and urging you to hold off taking action until any appeals are completed. As members of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, the three of us know first-hand the devastating effects of child sexual abuse. We are pleading with you to send a strong message to your flocks. If the sexual abuse of children truly is not tolerated in the OCA, defrock Archbishop Seraphim now.

Policies do not protect children. Actions protect children. The archbishop has been convicted. Do the right thing and follow your own guidelines.

Do make your voice heard… that’s why the contact info is here. We shouldn’t have a convicted criminal as a bishop. By the way, he wouldn’t be “laicised”; he’d be stripped of the episcopate. The Church only allows “one punishment” per crime. That is, deposition from the episcopate entails reduction in rank to the ordinary priesthood. The Mother Church had an analogous case in Vladimir Oblast (the problem was a priest, not a bishop). It didn’t go to court because the ruling bishop acted with dispatch… you see, the Moscow tabs got wind of it, publicised it, which galvanised the Patriarch into action, who built a fire under the local bishop. The local bishop forbade the priest involved to have contact with children and fired him from his post (which satisfied the Prokuratura, which didn’t bring a criminal case). That is, the Church punished the perp, so, there wasn’t need for a trial. Had the OCA done likewise, there wouldn’t have been all this shitstorm.

Contact the bishops… state your mind… state it clearly… demand that they follow their own rules. Then, they should send Seraphim off to a monastery with no access to children (which is, I believe, what the Canadian government really wants). That’s fair to everybody.

For God’s sake, let it not be “business as usual!” However, the news that the Holy Synod chose the unsuitable Mark Maymon (he disobeyed Philip Saliba’s direct orders… therefore, he’s unfit to serve as ruler of a doghouse, let alone a diocese) as a ruling bishop gives me little hope. If the Holy Synod elevates disobedient and hubristic SOBs to its dioceses (what’s more, someone championed by the questionable Paffhausen and who had an anti-Orthodox un-Christian Evangelical formation)… it’s quite possible that they’d be impervious to reason and logic. However, we MUST make an effort. We shall see…

Priest Linked to FK Zenit Wanted for Suspected Child Sex Abuse

00 Fr Gleb Grozovsky. 06.11.13

On Wednesday, the SKP said that it suspects that an Orthodox priest with links to St Petersburg’s FK Zenit sexually abused two children during a holiday trip to a Greek island. Law enforcement officials said that they have put Fr Gleb Grozovsky on an international wanted list over allegations that he abused two underage girls at an Orthodox summer camp earlier this year. Grozovsky, 34, is suspected of abusing the two girls, aged 9 and 12, in June at a hotel on the grounds of the Philadelphia Orthodox Travel Club on the Greek island of Kos, as well as committing “a range of similar crimes in St Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast”.

On Wednesday, Grozovsky wrote on his page on the VKontakte social networking site, “… The accusations are fabricated and result from my social activism and firm civil stance”. He said that parents and children’s camp staff were present during the trip and had “seen everything with their own eyes”, adding that he’d been accompanied on the holiday by his family, including his four children. The Diocese of St Petersburg suspended Grozovsky pending the probe, meaning that he retains his clerical status, but he isn’t allowed to carry out any public duties.

The SKP noted that the clergyman, who formerly served a rural parish in Leningrad Oblast, was an adviser to FK Zenit’s general director. A spokesman for Zenit said that Grozovsky, who studied at one of the city’s specialised football schools, doesn’t hold any official office at the football club, but observed that some of the club’s players turned to the priest on an individual basis, saying, “We’ve known Gleb since 2007 and can give positive references”.

Last Friday, a court issued an arrest warrant for Grozovsky, who’s thought to be on a work-related trip to Israel. His defence appealed the ruling. The charges launched against the priest carry a maximum punishment of up to 20 years imprisonment. The accusations are a rare incidence of paedophilia-related cases involving Russian Orthodox clergy. On Wednesday, Fyodor Gorbunov, the mayor of the village where the priest formerly served said that he was “amazed” to hear about the allegations, and gave a positive assessment of Grozovsky’s work, telling RIA-Novosti, “Young people are drawn to him, and he’s a good organiser”.

Editor’s Note:

THIS is why the Mother Church is more honest. It has to operate in the full glare of scrutiny from the media and government. Here in the diaspora, the Church is small enough to “fall below the radar horizon”, which means that feral sorts such as Lyonyo, Paffso, Potapov, Dreher, Royster, Bobby K, Ray Velencia, and Erickson get away (and got away) with murder. Trust me, had the Iliff affair (click here and here) happened in Russia, they wouldn’t have buried it. To put it bluntly, it’d sell MK millions of copies, and that’s why the media covers stories… to get audiences for their paid adverts. The Church moved quickly after MK broke the story of the sex abuse scandal in the Vladimir Diocese. Watch for similar fast action here… if for no other reason than to scotch the flames. Grozovsky smells like a goner to me…

1 November 2013. Testimony for Defence in Storheim Case Follows Tattered Papist Playbook

Click here and here for stories on the Storheim defence. This is an old, old story… we heard the same things in all the Catholic sex abuse trials… the clergyman is innocent, the accusers are crazy, and no one believes them. Storheim’s lawyer is a putz if he thinks that he can make this tired old mantra fly. It didn’t work for the RCs and it won’t work for Storheim. Look, the Crown offered a plea… that means that they have damning evidence. Remember, two OCA priests broke the “black wall of silence” and testified against Storheim. This sorry-ass Mexican soap opera is gasping to a spavined conclusion. Yet, I don’t think that we’re going to see “scandal” from the outcome. It’s just one more outré OCA peccadillo… everyone’s just hoping for someone, somewhere, to bring out the humane killer to put this sick beast down.

Everyone’s TIRED of the whole sorry mess and wants it OVER. I don’t mean just the Storheim case… I mean the OCA experiment… it’s a failed prototype. We have a FAILED dysfuctional Church in the diaspora… both the OCA and the ROCOR (Jerome Shaw didn’t resign for nought). It’s time to admit our failure and go home. Our place at table IS waiting…
