6 June 2015. Why Aren’t We the Home of the Free Anymore?

00 usa home of the free. 06.06.15

Prisons are full because crooked pols (mostly Republicans) profit from slave labour in “for-profit” private corporate prisons. This is an abomination. It’s time to close down all “private” prisons, outlaw prison slave labour (which competes with free labour), and drastically reform the police to halt their militarisation.

The Republicans won’t do it… Chilly Hilly and O’Malley won’t do it. Only Bernie has the guts and grit to do it. Vote for Bernie… your life DOES depend on it.

Aicha Bascaró: Please, Grant Clemency to My Father, Antonio Bascaró

01 behind bars in jail

My father, Antonio Bascaró, has been in prison for over 34 years, he had no earlier criminal record, serving time for a nonviolent first-time marijuana-only offense… all for helping supply a product that’s legal in a growing number of states. He’s the longest-serving marijuana prisoner in the history of the USA. Today, he’s 80 years old. I lost him to the legal system when I was 12 years old. I hardly remember him outside of that environment. My children barely know him. This gentle grandfather of eight spends his days in a wheelchair, mostly by himself, reading newspapers and listening to the news in his cell at a federal prison south of Miami. He calls me two to three times a week to see how I’m doing and staying in touch. I check on his health, we talk about plans for when he gets out, hoping that on the next Christmas, birthday, or summer we can be together. My father paid with his life (and ours) for that one marijuana offense. I think that the time he’s already been in prison is more than enough punishment. He isn’t a threat to society; he has a large family waiting for him and ready to help him re-enter it. That’s why I’m asking President Obama to grant him clemency, please.

Please, sign my petition asking President Obama to grant my father Antonio Bascaró clemency.

The USA is the “Prison House of all the Nations”… not only do we have the festering enormity of the Gitmo Gulag on our conscience as a nation, we have more prisoners, both in absolute and per capita terms, than any other nation on earth. Some states in the USA are worse than others are… the worst, hands-down, is Texas… that’s because the Anglos have never felt comfortable in their possession of the territory since the Texas Anglo Coup of 1836. Remember WHY the Anglos did it… the Mexicans insisted that they free their slaves! It wasn’t a war FOR liberty… it was a war RESTRICTING liberty. It’s no surprise that Texas is also the leader in capital punishment. Following not far behind are the southeastern states of the Old Confederacy. There, the law does its best to victimise black folks… all one has to do is to look at the rates of white and black imprisonment and execution in those states.

The Republicans smile at imprisoning black and Latino men as it removes them from the voting rolls. Therefore, I make the following suggestion. We should legalise marijuana… grant total and unconditional pardons to those whose only offences were marijuana busts. We should restore their voting rights… we should wipe their slates clean. Of course, optimally, we’d couple that with throwing rightwing filth like Rick Perry in the slam for misusing drug laws to disenfranchise coloured men… but that isn’t going to happen. I predict that lawlessness wouldn’t break out. All that would happen is that crooked pols, judges, and cops would forego their dirty money and drug dealers would lose their lucrative situations. Wanna know who the crooked pols, judges, and coppers are? Look at those who defend the “War on Drugs” most strenuously… those are your culprits. It’s just like the loudest and most strident opponents of open homosexuals… why, they’re often closeted gays themselves!

Set the drug prisoners free and legalise marijuana. Drug addiction is a medical problem… not a criminal justice problem. In any case, marijuana use doesn’t lead to hard drug use. Keep it focused. Look at the BILLIONS we’d save on prisons… note well that the amoral moneygrubbing Republican rightwing filth DOESN’T want to save that money. I wonder why… so should you…

Poll Sez Most Americans Opposed to Closing Gitmo Gulag

00 Guantanamo Bay Cartoon

According to a Gallup poll, held from 5 to 8 June, involving 1,207 adult American residents, after the exchange of an American soldier captured in Afghanistan for five Taliban commanders, the majority of Americans don’t support closing the Guantánamo Bay prison in Cuba. According to the survey, only 29 percent of Americans want the prison closed, whilst two-thirds (66 percent) oppose closing it and transferring its prisoners to American prisons. Gallup. The margin of error was +/- 4 percent. According to US National Security Council, over the past 13 months, the USA released 13 prisoners from the facility. Thus, now, there are 149 prisoners at Gitmo. In 2008, then-presidential candidate Obama promised to close the prison in 2010. However, in March 2011, the military courts for terrorism suspects resumed their work. In addition, Obama president signed a decree that established special procedures to allow holding detainees at Gitmo without charge if they pose a serious threat to national security. In 2013, Obama announced in a keynote speech that the USA should close the prison, and that suspected terrorists should face trial in the USA.

Nothing like the Gitmo Gulag existed in the Cold War… the Americans feared that the Sovs would run with it and ruin their image abroad. In any case, Gitmo is extralegal… it’s illegal as all get-out, and that meant something prior to the time of Slobberin’ Ronnie. Reagan defied legality (look at PATCO), Bush I was a former CIA director (need I say more? What about Neil Bush and Silverado?), Clinton was the last of the Good Ol’ Boy Dixiecrats (and the last of the “conservative” Democrats), Bush II was a spoilt brat crony crapitalist, and Obama won’t face down Republican filibusters in the Senate (the true source of the gridlock in our government today). In short, Gitmo is a symptom of a dysfunctional, crank, and ultimately systemically unlawful American “conservatism”. Trust me… Bismarck and Stolypin wouldn’t call Rush, Ann, Boehner, McConnell, and the Tea Party conservatives (after all, Bismarck was the Father of Single-Payer Healthcare and Stolypin favoured prosperous smallholders over aristocratic landowners)… they’d call ’em what they are… Nihilist Radical Right Anarcho-Capitalists (Slobberin’ Ronnie is God and Ayn Rand is His Prophet). American “conservatives” make UKIP and Marine le Pen look LEFTIST (they’re not… but they ARE traditional conservatives, not rightwing greedsters like the Americans are). Leftists and True Conservatives can dialogue and find common cause… Radical Right Nihilists, like those in the US Republican Party, are the enemies of all decent people.

Orthodox people… I have a word for you… SYMPHONIA. The Church blesses the state and it curses anarchy of any sort (not all anarchists are bearded and toss bombs… most are “respectable” and quote Ayn Rand). It does NOT bless “deregulation” or “libertarianism”, as it believes that fallen man is unable, inherently, to police himself adequately. That means that you spit on the Lord Christ and His Church if you vote Republican. Think on that.

Russian Newlyweds Who Beat Up Cops Are Thrown in Separate Jails

01 Go to Jail

A Russian couple that tied the knot a bit too rowdily, including beating up three cops, will have to delay the start of their married life by 18 months… which they’ll spend in separate prisons. In a statement on Wednesday, the Chuvash Republic branch of the SK Rossii said that the couple’s trouble began on the second day of the wedding, when the drunken groom took a rental car for a drive. The 24-year-old ended up crashing the car into a bus station and fleeing the scene on foot to a hidey-hole nearby. The groom came out of hiding only to try to stop police from towing away the car. When words failed him, he teamed up with his bride, who by that time had arrived on the scene, and repeatedly punched, kicked, and headbutted three cops. That last action is what got them the prison time, on charges of assaulting an officer on duty, although the couple retains the right to appeal. The incident took place in September, but the court didn’t report the verdict until Wednesday. Investigators didn’t release the couple’s names, but they said that the bride was 23 and that both were unemployed, with criminal records.
