I noted that the English translator at RIA didn’t even touch this one with its clever combination of punning and ribaldry (it even contains a clever verbal attack on lawyers, if you read it carefully). Of course, Russians are much earthier than Anglos are… that leads to many mixed and minced signals. Of course, the word подарок (podarok: gift) on the waistband of the tighty-whitey briefs leads to all kinds of merry and ribald speculations on the part of ordinary dirty-minded individuals (you’re right down there in the gutter with me, so, don’t point fingers). Are the briefs the “gift”… or, does “gift” refer to something more… rude and bawdy? Perspirin’ minds wanna know…
