THIS was Lake Michigan in Chicago IL during the recent Polar Vortex cold snap. It was -45 degrees (-48 Fahrenheit) still air, NOT wind chill. I’d be wearing my snuggies, to be sure. The guys would need a fur jockstrap and a full set of longjohns on top of that! I’ve been in Chicago in the winter, it’s brutal as all hell, but this year it was extra special, as the above photo indicates.

Look at Russian landscapes in all their variety in “golden” autumn. From Moscow to the Crimean peninsula, from Siberia to the Far East… autumn inspired Russian poets and painters to create immortal masterpieces. Although many associate Russia with winter, the landscapes look absolutely beautiful and fascinating when trees are in red, orange, and yellow colours.

“Walruses” playing chess (it looks like the local priest is out there, too!)… vehicles driving on the ice of the frozen Chagan-Burgazy River in Kosh-Agach Raion in the Altai Republic… it’s still winter in Russia… it won’t be spring until April. The Russian winter, although not as severe as in the past, is still legendary and still more tenacious than the one found in the West.
