According to Elvira Nabiullina, the Minister of Economic Development, speaking at a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir PutinRussian government measures to support small and medium-sized businesses in 2009 yielded positive results. During the conversation, it became clear that, in 2009, for the first time, the number of cash registers removed from service was lower than the number of new machines brought into use. Furthermore, some 23,000 new contracts for connecting businesses to the network were concluded. In recent years, government initiatives covering the automatic lease renewal or preferential right of redemption by small and medium enterprises of their commercial space also proved effective. Minister Nabiullina concluded, “Right now, according to Rosreestra, the number of contracts that use this scheme of preferential purchase of premises by a small business tenant renting space in the last two years amounted to 6,200. We hope that this measure will continue to show results. It is very important that it continue to be of benefit, even in times of crisis, when small businesses have no extra money. However, indeed, most small business owners want to own their own premises, so that they can do with them as they wish. We see that this is the prevailing trend. In our view, this is very positive”.
