President Obama Visited Damaged Malankara Orthodox Church on Staten Island: “He Spoke to Us as If He Knew Us for a Long Time”

This is the damage to the present building of the parish… there’s a link below for the parish… click on it, and there are directions on how you can contribute to them. Send ’em a fin or two… repairs ain’t cheap and money doesn’t grow on trees.

When US President Barack Obama visited Staten Island on 15 November, the New York City borough devastated by Hurricane Sandy, he met with members of St George Malankara Orthodox Church, which suffered moderate damage. Sunny Konniyoor, a member of the church, told India Abroad, “We didn’t expect to meet the President. We stood near the church, hoping to see the President going that way. Instead of driving through, Obama walked in the New Dorp Beach neighbourhood, inspecting damage and interacting with residents. Only those who live in the area can remain there. Konniyoor said, “Since we’re members of the church, the Secret Service allowed us to stand near the church”.

When the President saw the group, which included Vicar Fr Alex Joy, Dr Skaria Oommen, Konniyoor, and his son Martin, he walked towards them. Martin, an accountant, congratulated Obama on his election victory. The president inquired about his work. The team described to the President the extent of damage to the church, which was the first Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church building in North America. The church didn’t have flood insurance. They didn’t expect much help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Konniyoor, an Obama supporter, said, “He spoke to us as if he knew us for a long time”.

The President suggested they take a photograph. A state lawmaker took a camera from Martin and clicked a photograph. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, US Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and several top officials accompanied Obama. After walking down a block that had been all-but-demolished in the storm, Obama said, “We’re reminded that we’re bound together and have to look out for each other. We’re going to have to put some of the turf battles aside. We’re going to have to make sure everybody’s focused on doing the job, as opposed to worrying about who’s getting the credit, or, who’s getting the contracts, and all that stuff that sometimes goes into the rebuilding process”. Of 43 deaths attributed to the storm in New York City, 23 were on Staten Island.

Editor’s Note:

You hear much bloody noise from Paffhausen, Dahulich, Reardon, Freddie M-G, Dreher, and Mattingly about how the Church is allied to “conservative” rightwing politics. Nothing could be further from the truth. The majority of real ethnic Orthodox (and converts in real parishes, as opposed to konvertsy conventicles) voted for the President. Don’t forget, ethnic Orthodox votes put the President over the top in the Valley. Real Orthodox came home… as for the loudmouthed konvertsy, they lie… there’s no kinder way of expressing it. St Aleksei Toth blessed the Wobblies… not the greedy bosses. HH blessed Hugo Chávez Frías… not the warmongering Republican Party.

Get with the programme…

Russia Will Send Humanitarian Aid to New York in the Wake of Hurricane Sandy

On Monday, 12 November, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) plans to send two planes with humanitarian aid to Hurricane Sandy-hit New York City. Two Ilyushin-76 cargo planes will deliver over 50 tons of humanitarian aid; they’re due to take off from Ramenskoye Airport south-east of Moscow. The aircraft are part of the MChS division that responds to international and national disasters.

Con Ed reported that it’s restored 98 percent of electric service in the New York metro area to those neighbourhoods that lost power due to hurricane Sandy. At present, 20,000 people are still without electricity. In the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, more than a million people in the city had no electricity. In New Jersey, where the elements left 2.7 million customers without electricity, efforts are still underway to restore power. Currently, 100,000 are still without power.

The New York Times reported that about 900 New Yorkers who lost their houses due to Hurricane Sandy would have temporary housing on the premises of the former Arthur Kill Correctional Facility in Staten Island, closed by New York State in 2011. Meanwhile, about 40,000 NYC residents are still unable to go home or lost their houses. Hurricane Sandy struck the American east coast at the end of October, killing more than 100 people and inflicting billions of dollars in damages.

25 March 2012. Wherefore art Thou, John Jillions? Or, a Short History of Transparency Amongst the OCA Chancellors…

If John Jillions is living in Canada, how can he be a clergyman at a chapel in Long Island? That’s not kosher… neither is working for the papists, and taking their money (which gives them control over him).

Let’s start with what we know of the previous chancellors. Of course, this is to establish my cred to comment on the present situation. RSK lived at three addresses in Syosset from 1984-2006 whilst serving as Secretary to the Metropolitan, (Corporate) Secretary of the OCA, Acting OCA Chancellor, and OCA Chancellor. Daniel Hubiak lived in Floral Park, in a house he owned (he raised his daughters there), an apartment in Whitestone, and, finally, at the rectory of Ss Peter and Paul in Jersey City. He succeeded John Skvir, who had passed on. By the time he was living in Jersey City, he was only serving as OCA Chancellor on a part-time basis. Multiple sources told me that the OCA cut his salary because of that. Furthermore, the OCA didn’t reimburse him for travel expenses between Jersey City and Syosset. Joseph Pishtey Sr served as rector of Holy Trinity in Yonkers whilst he was Chancellor of the Metropolia/OCA. Back then, the Central Administration operated out of Yonkers, the Cathedral on 2nd St in the City, and Metropolitan Leonty Turkevich lived out at “Pishtey’s Folly” in Syosset (the present Chancellery). After Metropolitan Leonty died, Metropolitan Ireney Bekish lived at 2nd St in the beginning. Later, the Central Administration moved out to Syosset and Metropolitan Ireney continued to reside at the Cathedral. Later, “they” forced him (against his will) to move out to Syosset. Later still, the Schmemanndorf gang pushed Ireney into the Ss Cosmas and Damian Home in Staten Island.

Now, that we’ve established that I know the past players and their haunts, let’s talk about the present. Do note that former Chancellor, Garklavs, still resides at the same address in Huntington and still is one of the clergy at the St Sergius Chapel at the Chancery. At the rate they’re going, there’ll be more clergy attached to St Sergius Chapel in Oyster Bay Cove than are attached to Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow. Supposedly, he’s been relieved of his position as Chancellor, yet he hasn’t received a parish. Is he still working at the Chancery in some capacity? Is he receiving a salary, consulting fees, or other compensation from the OCA? This, of course, leads to the question, “Where does John Jillions live?” Officially, he’s a clergyman at St Sergius Chapel… but does he ever serve there? Is he the full-time Chancellor, or, does he “moonlight” as Chancellor, keeping his “day job” as a professor at the Uniate seminary in Ontario? If he still lives in Ottawa, does the OCA pick up the tab for his travelling expenses to the Island? His personal Facebook page references a home address in Canada, and it doesn’t list the OCA Chancery as his employer, rather, it lists his teaching position in Ontario. According to oca.org, Jillions’ address is PO Box 675, Syosset, NY… with NO indication of an actual location. If he’s living in Canada, it’s very ODD that he’d be clergy on the Island… the distance is just too great. That’s First Family Transparency for ya!

Does Jillions stays with his brother-in-law Eric Wheeler in Huntington Station when he’s in town, or, does he stay at the East Norwich Inn (down the road from the Chancery) at OCA expense? This brings up an important point… the incestuous First Family influences in the apparat… of course, I mean “incestuous” in the metaphorical sense, an ingrown and inbred set at the head of the Church. On the one hand, we have Jillions, Lyonyo, Wheeler, Stokoe, Garklavs, and Tosi… on the other, we have Bobby K, his hangers-on such as Burdikoff, Karlgut, and Perich, and their episcopal marionettes Moriak, Dahulich, and Fathausen. It explains why Velencia made Stokoe a party to his crank lawsuit. Velencia’s part of Fathausen’s circle, which means that Bobby’s probably using Sir Ray to strike at Lyonyo and Jillions through Mark (is he subsidising Ray’s legal efforts? Perspirin’ minds wanna know). What’s most interesting is that Behr isn’t of either party yet… if he makes the wrong judgement call, it’s finis for St Fagomir’s, and it won’t get a second chance (let’s see… they’ve been running a deficit for years… and the OCA made its Treasurer the OCA Treasurer… interesting, no? If she’s incompetent in running a single seminary…).

Here’s another interesting titbit… Jillions supposedly attended a three-day course at a crank “institute” in Seattle. Click here for the OCA Pravda on this situation. I checked its website, and this institute doesn’t mention the University of Washington at all… however, give Lil’ Mizz Ginny the benefit of the doubt… she’s not overly bright, and she only regurgitated what Fathausen told her. She’s NO journalist, she’s only an ignorant PR flack who vomits forth whatever Bobby wants her to (by this time, everybody knows that Bobby’s manipulating JP, along with Potapov).

Fathausen’s down in DC or Dallas… Jillions is up in Ottawa and STILL teaching at the Uniate seminary… this leaves Lyonyo, Tosi, and Garklavs (along with Wheeler and the rest of Lyonyo’s cabal) on the Island running day-to-day operations at the OCA Chancery in Syosset. Fathausen is even more opaque than Feodosy Lazor or Herman Swaiko ever were… well, maybe Jillions is following suit by being more covert than Hubiak, Kondratick, and Garklavs ever were… after all, birds of a feather do flock together, no? However, Jillions spits on Christ and His Church by continuing his employment at a Uniate institution. That means that Jillions can pass everything that goes on in the OCA to the papist foes of the Church. They do pay him, after all… and he who pays the piper, chooses the tune, as they say.

What type of “Strategic Plan” would Baba and Dede implement to remedy this hutsky-klutksy Chinese Fire Drill administration disarray? I think that you know the answer…

This Just In Department:

A friend just sent me:

Garklavs was assigned to a parish in the Midwest Diocese. There was a pastoral changes posting on the Midwest Diocese website, but it’s gone now, as it’s “old news”. I believe his appointment was effective within the past month. He took over Vladimir Berzonsky’s parish, Holy Trinity in Parma OH. Click here, it’s their website with the bulletin from March 18 and Garklavs is listed as the rector. He’s listed as the rector here, too.

3 March 2012. “They Paved Paradise… And Put Up a Parking Lot”… A Glimpse into a Hidden Past

Sources send me images of the old Metropolia days… when there was actually OPTIMISM in Russian Orthodox circles here. How did such a modest and pragmatic bunch morph into an oddbod bunch of crazies? They went from people who could disagree with one another and knew the value of a dollar to a group that yammers about “20-Year Plans” and “Evangelising America”, who have to subsidise SVS to the tune of a quarter-mill a year because of its profligate spending, and who slobber slack-jawed at the scandalous spectacle of a priest suing another priest in a court of law during the first week of the Great Lent. A friend tells me that the top image is from the 50s, and that the second one is of Metropolitan Iriney Bekish from the 60s. This was the Metropolia’s Antediluvian Age.

Metropolitan Iriney was a Confessor, no doubt. Several sources have told me, and everyone that I’ve asked corroborate them, that Schmemann and von Meyendorff kept poor Metropolitan Iriney a virtual prisoner in the Ss Cosmas and Damian Home on Staten Island. I’m NOT a classical Marxist… I do NOT believe in impersonal historical forces… I believe that INDIVIDUALS, through the exercise of their free will, make history. Our present fix can be traced back to two men in particular, Aleksandr Schmemann and Ivan von Meyendorff. Meyendorff was the brains… the ideologue, a brilliant Bukharin and Suslov (but he lacked the ability to inspire others). Schmemann was the “rain-maker”… the dreamer and salesman… a tin-plate ersatz Lenin and Trotsky in one (with all the flaws of both, with none of their strengths). His logic was faulty, his scholarship was often derivative, yet, he had one thing… he had charismata, in the classic Greek sense, he could make people believe in the reality of his opium dream. Yes… two determined men changed the course of history… and not for the better.

The sorry dénouement that we see today had a beginning, and it had two very enthusiastic “midwives”… poor Metropolitan Iriney… he suffered so because of them. Light a candle in his memory…

They Said It Far Better Than I Could Department:

A friend sent me this:

Meyendorff did have the ability to inspire at least those of like temperament to him. We’ve all met his devotees… and, as a matter of fact, one can argue that today’s OCA is in their hands. The changing of the guard from the pre-1983 SVS crowd to their 1983-92 successors has certainly taken place. If only one could tear up the parking lot and rebuild Paradise! But what’s gone is gone. Something new must, and will, emerge.

Hear… hear! If one looks at Paul Meyendorff and Peter Bouteneff, one finds the truth in my friend’s words…
