6 February 2019. THIS is How Cold It Was on Lake Michigan

________________________

THIS was Lake Michigan in Chicago IL during the recent Polar Vortex cold snap. It was -45 degrees (-48 Fahrenheit) still air, NOT wind chill. I’d be wearing my snuggies, to be sure. The guys would need a fur jockstrap and a full set of longjohns on top of that! I’ve been in Chicago in the winter, it’s brutal as all hell, but this year it was extra special, as the above photo indicates.

BRRR!!

9 March 2017. It’s Still Winter in Russia!

“Walruses” playing chess (it looks like the local priest is out there, too!)… vehicles driving on the ice of the frozen Chagan-Burgazy River in Kosh-Agach Raion in the Altai Republic… it’s still winter in Russia… it won’t be spring until April. The Russian winter, although not as severe as in the past, is still legendary and still more tenacious than the one found in the West.

11 March 2015. From the Russian Web… THIS is How Cold It Was In New York…

______________________________

It so cold in New York City that parts of New York harbour froze over… a very rare occurrence. Oddly enough, this cold snap is part of Global Warming. As the Arctic ice melts, it gets taken up into the air and falls as snow in the winter. When you couple it with Arctic air inversions, an illusion of ice age conditions comes about. We had a very cold bitter snap for about four weeks here, but it’s up a little over 5 (41 Fahrenheit) today, and the snow is rapidly receding. It was NOT an Old School Northeast winter, as that’d mean significant snowfall in December. We didn’t have major snowfall until February, so, the bitter winter only lasted about a month.
