We shouldn’t use “Theotokos” in English… we don’t in Russian! If “пресватая богородице” is good in Russian and Slavonic, then, “Most Holy Godbearer [and Mother of God]” is good in English, too. “Theotokos” was Schmemann’s goofy attempt to pander to the Greeks. If Greeks want to use “Theotokos”… that’s OK… they’re simply following their language and culture. Russian Orthodox people shouldn’t use it… we should follow our own tradition… to keep this title in our language, not Greek. “Most Holy Godbearer and Mother of God”… that DOES have a mellifluous and LITURGICAL ring to it (shades of the AV and the Geneva Bible, no?). You can hear a deacon proclaiming that in a joyous basso profundo in a darkened church amidst a sea of lit candles, can’t you?

4 October 2012. Something to Hang Onto During the Dark Times Ahead

______________________________

There’s going to be a lot of wild n’ goofy stuff coming down in the next month… trust me, you won’t know one end from another. If it starts getting to ya, cross yourself, and say, “Holy Mother, help me!” That’s all… that’s all you need. It’s a twofer… as the icon indicates, the Holy Mother doesn’t come without her Son. It’ll help… I know. There… and I didn’t charge you 25 bucks for the clue-in, like some people we know…

Reach out… she’ll be there…

RF MID Concerned By Decision to Arrest Abbot of Vatopedi Monastery

Vatopedi Delegation with the Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God in Russia

______________________________

Today, Aleksandr Lukashevich, a spokesman for the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID), said that the decision of a Greek court to arrest Archimandrite Ephrem, the abbot of Vatopedi Monastery, is a matter of deep concern for the RF MID. In his words, “In recent days, a large number of people in Russia became concerned by reports from Greece about the situation of Archimandrite Ephrem, the abbot of Vatopedi Monastery”. According to the MID, the court decision to arrest Fr Ephrem dates back to 2008, being associated with a large-scale investigation into the implementation of real estate deals between Vatopedi Monastery and the Greek government in 2007. Lukashevich emphasised, “However, taking into account the statements by Archimandrite Ephrem about his willingness to cooperate with the investigating authorities and the state of his health, we have deep concerns about the actions of the judicial authorities in Greece, for they don’t take into account the decisions and recommendations of the European Court of Human Rights on placing him in custody pending trial”.

Archimandrite Ephrem recently travelled to Russia with a delegation of his monks. They accompanied the Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God, which is kept at Vatopedi Monastery, during a tour organised by the Foundation of St Andrew the First-Called. This is one of the most important relics to be brought to Orthodox believers in Russia. During its 40-day tour of many Russian cities, millions of Orthodox Christians venerated the relic, which only leaves Mount Athos in exceptional cases. Lukashevich noted, “It’s clear that many Russians feel deep gratitude towards the Holy Community (Ιερά Κοινότητα (Iera Kinotita)) of Holy Mount Athos, and to the abbot and brotherhood of Vatopedi Monastery for the opportunity to venerate the relic”.

Editor’s Note:

All that this will do is to piss off Greeks against American interference in their internal affairs. Whether or not Langley was involved this time, it has all the hallmarks of a CIA operation against a pro-Russian cleric. To me, it DOES smell like Langley… Americans are arrogant snot-nosed pricks and they kick people around if they feel that they that they’re not getting enough “respect”. I do NOT think that Bart’s behind this… he needs Russian help to reopen Halki, and all this does is complicate that situation. Bart’s an “operator”, but he’s NOT dumb-as-dirt like Fathausen. Foggy Bottom just shot itself in the foot again… doesn’t the Inside the Beltway gang EVER learn?
