13 July 2016. Where Is VVP? He’s on Otpust… We’re Christians; That’s What We Do

Earlier this month, the Western media speculated on where VVP was. If they had half a brain, they’d remember that he goes on otpust to Valaam every year right around this time. The above image shows VVP and HH confabbing in Valaam… reports also had it that he met with “Ukrainian” industrialists and public figures at the monastery. Firstly, VVP is a devout Orthodox Christian, and going on otpust is one of the things that we do. Secondly, Valaam gives him a venue to meet with people away from the media and public, well-secured and off-the-beaten-track. Besides, this is a regular part of his agenda… every year, he goes on otpust to clear his mind and attend to his religious duties.

The Western media doesn’t understand Christianity nor does it want to… as for VVP, he simply goes on otpust every year… we’re Christians; that’s what we do…

The winter lent is almost upon us. Just as Easter has 40 days of abstinence preceding it… so does Christmas. Orthodoxy has four lents… the Great Lent, before Easter, the Christmas Lent, before Christmas, the Peter and Paul Lent, before the feastday of Ss Peter and Paul, and the Assumption Lent, in August before the feastday of the Assumption of the Virgin. Get in the mood, kids… there’s a season for celebration and a season for fasting… and a season of fasting is upon us. Keep it focused and keep it straight…

It’s Gonna be Napolitano in Karelia! Valaam Monastery to Send Monk to Italy to Learn Secrets of Mozzarella Makin’… No Lie

There have been all sorts of interesting (but expected) fallout from the sanctions. Makfa, which was already the biggest domestic pasta maker in Russia (they’re in Yekaterinburg), just got bigger… they’re cracking down on Mickey Dee’s… but this one is a “Strange, but Nonetheless True”. The famous Valaam Monastery in Karelia is sending one of the brothers to Italy… to ferret out the secrets of mozzarella makin’. Perspirin’ minds wanna know… are they gonna bring in gen-u-wine Eye-tal-i-an water buffaloes for the real deal mozzarell’ di bufala or are they just gonna make wimpy old cow’s milk mozzarell’ with the milk from their own dairy herd? On the other hand, is the said brother gonna do his best to convert Joey the Cheese-Maker and entice him to come to northern climes? In that case, he’d be “The Spy that Came INTO the Cold!” (A little riff on John le Carré‘s The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, for them in the know.) Now, that’s a mystery well-worth cracking!

Orthodox Monastery to Dominate Finnish Whiskey Production

On Wednesday, Finnish MTV News reported that an Orthodox monastery in Finland will become the country’s largest whiskey producer. The monastery, which is already in the wine-production business, is going to invest millions of euros to build a distillery. It expects to produce 120,000 litres of spirits annually. They’ll bottle the finished product at Finland’s historic Hermannin Winery, the oldest in the country. Bottles of Valaam Whiskey will reach liquor stores in spring 2018. New Valaam Monastery in Finland will produce the hooch. Monks evacuated from an older monastery in Russian Karelia established it in 1940. Shortly after the evacuation, Soviet forces occupied the original Valaam Monastery, but it reopened in 1989, and President V V Putin now frequents it. Unlike the Finnish monastery, it doesn’t produce any alcoholic beverages.
