Sevastopol to Keep Berkut Unit Embodied and Part of Police

00 Kiev. riots 01. 24.01.14

______________________________

Aleksei Chaly, the new Mayor of Sevastopol, promised residents that he wouldn’t disband the Berkut spetsnaz unit. The Sevastopol authorities intend to ignore yesterday’s decree of acting Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Arseny Avakov abolishing the Berkut. Mayor Chaly promised that the Berkut would stay embodied and that its members would continue to receive their official pay.

Chaly invited the Berkut troopers to Sevastopol, saying, “They’re decent men”. He pointed up that they could form the nucleus for a self-defence force, and be part of the municipal police in future. Chaly noted, “These men proved themselves patriots; they more than adequately fulfilled their duty to their motherland. Now, their former chiefs want to throw them to rabid Nazis. In future, any envoys from Kiev won’t go to Sevastopol nor to any other place that agrees with the Executive Committee”.

Editor’s Note:

Where is Chaly getting the money for this? Why, from Russia… but not from the government! In the USA, the government serves at the pleasure of the corporate élite… the government is merely a cat’s paw for corporate interests (as we saw in Chile in 1973). This is the real reason for the American support of the Timoshenko putschists… American corporate leaders smell profit for themselves. In Russia, however, the corporate élite serves at the pleasure of the government (one reason the American corporate élite hates Russia and vilifies it in its media). What’s my reason for such a statement? Let me give you a name… Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Russian oligarchs know that if they cross VVP, they’ll bust rocks under the Arctic sun in an ITK in the Sakha Republic. Ergo, if he makes a “suggestion”… much as John Boehner is the Stepin Fetchit running dog of Big Pharma/Big Insurance… they all say, “Thank you, sir, may I please have another!”

Moscow isn’t going to get involved in the Ukraine. That’s true… but Russian money will flow in from corporate sources and Russian “civilian” volunteers will pass through the porous and mostly unguarded border. VVP has deniability… just as American corporate interests have deniability for their actions when they use the American government. That is, VVP uses the Americans’ own tactic against them! “We didn’t send any money to Mayor Chaly!” That’ll be true… but Roman Abramovich knows what to do… he has Khodorkovsky’s example before him, doesn’t he?

The Japanese have a word, haragei, which means, “belly talk”. “Belly talk” is when you make loud pious noises about something, but do the exact opposite… however, you give subtle hints that your public position is mere formality, and that your actions will be otherwise. Methinks that the world capital of “belly talk” right now is Moscow, especially, with Sergei Lavrov, the “Old Master”, leading the belly talkers (they do have such sincere looks on their faces, don’t they? The Americans hate the fact that Sergei Viktorovich is telling them, “Assume the position!”)… that’s why the USA is so pissed. You see, the Russians are saying all the “correct things”… the USA can’t fault them in public. Russia is going to follow its national interests… and there’s more than one way to do so… all roads DO lead to Rome, but not all roads go through Ostia, if you catch my drift. Keep your eyes open… VVP isn’t the master statesman of our time for nought…

On Friday, Captain First Rank Vadim Serga, a Russian Navy spokesman, said that Northern Fleet combat aircraft would extend the ranges of their patrol flights over the Arctic in 2014 using a network of revamped Soviet-era airfields, saying, “In 2014, naval aviation units of the Northern Fleet will significantly expand the geography of Arctic patrol flights, especially, by using Temp airfield {on Kotelny Island: editor} on the New Siberian Islands”. Captain Serga said that Tu-142 and Il-38 ASW/maritime patrol aircraft carried out over 30 patrol missions in the Arctic last year. In December, President Vladimir Putin ordered the armed forces to boost their presence in the Arctic and complete development of military infrastructure in the region in 2014. Minoborony announced plans to deploy a combined-arms force in the Arctic by 2015.

Editor’s Note:

Watch the usual troglodytes in Congress scream about “Russian overreach”. That’s a crock of shit. These flights are no different from American flights over Alaska or Hawaii. These tossers say such to try to get more money for their big-bucks corporate paymasters… not because these flights are a threat to anyone. Russia’s cut back severely on defence expenditures for twenty years to try to rebuild the economy… the American economy‘s knackered because of constant warfare over twenty years (plus inane tax cuts for the Affluent Effluent). As they say, one of these things is not like the other…

Hungry Bears Approach Villages in Flood-Hit Russian Far East

00 bear in a tree. 28.08.13

______________________________

On Wednesday, local police said that aggressive bears, starving because their natural food sources were destroyed by floods, are becoming a growing threat for villagers in the Russian Far East. According to Yevgeny Shukshin, police chief of Polina Osipenko Raion  in Khabarovsk Krai, bears currently have difficulty finding their usual food… berries and salmon… because of floods. He said, “Chances of meeting a predator have increased. Hunger drives the animals closer to humans; it forces them to search for food in garbage dumps. More and more often, we’re informed of bears approaching villages”. In one such incident, police dealt with an aggressive bear, which dangerously approached a group of children picking mushrooms. At once, the cops tried to scare the animal off, but it ran towards them, so, they killed it. Due to the flooding, which has occurred over several weeks, an emergency was declared in four Far Eastern areas… Amur Oblast, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast (Birobidzhan), Khabarovsk Krai, and Primorsky Krai… as well as in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). On Tuesday, Vladimir Pysin, Deputy Presidential Envoy to the Russian Far East, said that the overall damage is currently estimated at 30 billion roubles (900 million USD. 937 million CAD. 980 million AUD. 684 million Euros. 576 million UK Pounds). In three of the affected regions… Amur Oblast, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, and Khabarovsk Krai… the floods affected 190 settlements with almost 9,500 buildings.

Alrosa Finds “Unique” Diamond, Pegs Price at One Mill

00 Alrosa diamond. Yakutia. 12.02.13

______________________________

In a statement released on Tuesday, diamond-mining giant Alrosa said that it found a “unique” diamond weighing 145.44 carats (29 grammes/1 ounce). According to specialists at Alrosa’s Diamond-Sorting Centre, the gem could fetch up to 1 million USD (30.13 million Roubles. 750,000 Euros. 640,000 UK Pounds). Alrosa said that it discovered the clear octahedral-shaped diamond (with a yellowish cast) late last month in Yakutia; it measures 35 x 20 x 26 millimetres (1.4 x 0.8 x 1 inch). Last September, Alrosa found an even larger gem-grade diamond at another of its Yakutia mines, which it valued at more than 1.5 million USD (45.2 million Roubles. 1.125 million Euros. 960,000 UK Pounds), and said that it could split it into several high-quality cut diamonds.

The latest find comes from deep within the Yubileynaya diamond pipe at Factory No 14 of Alrosa’s Aykhalsky facility. In October, the same pipe yielded an enormous industrial-grade diamond weighing 888.15 carats (178 grammes/6.25 ounces). The company said that the unclear (greyish-green in hue) stone was the fourth-heaviest diamond ever produced in Russia. Russia has the largest known diamond deposits in the world and Alrosa accounts for 97 percent of Russian production. The principal regions of production are Yakutia (AKA Sakha Republic), Perm, and Arkhangelsk. Alrosa accounts for 25 percent of the world’s diamond production. In 2011, the company produced 34.6 million carats (6,920 metric tons/7,628 US tons) of diamonds, which fetched 4.45 billion USD (134.1 billion Roubles. 3.3 billion Euros. 2.85 billion UK Pounds). Experts expect that the figures for 2012 production, not yet fully calculated, should total about 34.4 million carats (6,880 metric tons/7,584 US tons), which would garner 4.5 billion USD (135.6 billion Roubles. 3.4 billion Euros. 2.9 billion UK Pounds).
