4 May 2011. A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words… Spring Planting in Byelorussia…

They’re planting potatoes in the village of Volkovichi, which is west of Minsk. It’s interesting… such people are content with life, quite unlike affluent American suburbanites who “lack nothing”. Recently, some Byelorussian girls came to a ROCOR parish… when they were told that they could stay in the USA, they laughed, saying that they had all that they needed back home. President Lukashenko is genuinely popular and he walks the streets of Minsk amongst his people. Like the Cubans, they know that they lack material things… but they have freedom… freedom from the boot of American corporatist dictatorship… and that’s worth more to them than any material possession. I think that the Byelorussians have something to teach all of us…
