Mostik* the Cat (Кот Мостик in Russian), a well-known symbol of the Kerch Bridge construction project, gained weight during Maslenitsa and is now on a diet. There are now sites on social networks featuring him. The caption under his image on one site read:

Maslenitsa’s over; it’s a good holiday, but I feel fat. One more plate… then, it’s back to my beloved shrimp diet!

His fans don’t support his desire to lose weight; his healthy appearance pleases them, so some even promised to bring him delicious goodies when they go on holiday in the Crimea. Mostik attached himself to the construction crew in 2015. According to the latest intel, he lives at one of the control points. His official name is Mosta the Cat (Кот Моста in Russian); he has more than 20,000 fans on the social networks. Mostik promised to be the first to take a selfie on the bridge when it’s completed.

  • Мост (Most) in Russian means “Bridge”, so “Mostik” could be Englished as “Bridgie”

18 February 2018. You Can’t Make Up Shit Like This… Horns and Hoofs: Goat is Man’s Best Friend

******

Having a pet goat can be just as much fun as having a pet dog as the story of Jack Barrett, a football fan from Burnley in England, shows. They even hang out together in a local pub. Barrett, 40, loves spending time at the Angel Inn with his goat Eric, whom he named in honour of Eric Cantona, the legendary Man United forward. The owner says his pet friend enjoys being around people. Eric the goat is also familiar with fashion… his owner dresses him up before going out. Barrett jokes his goat leads a healthy lifestyle despite his regular appearances in the pub, having no alcohol, and only crisps as treats. Barrett, the father of two kids, said to the Mirror:

He only ever has water. I wouldn’t give my child beer, so why would I give it to my goat? He absolutely loves Quavers.

An old Russian saying has it:

A house isn’t a home until it has a cat in it.

It seems that’s still true today. 59 percent of all Russian households have at least one cat (more have two or more than have just one). Therefore, don’t be surprised to find a cat rubbing your ankle in welcome as you take off your shoes to stay a spell (Russians ALWAYS remove their outdoor shoes at the entrance… just like French-Canadians do). Do wear clean socks and wash your feet beforehand… youse been warned…
