Bishop Margot Kässmann (1958- ), former head of the EKD, she resigned yesterday after a drink driving arrest… shall it affect relations with the MP? Time will tell us.
As of now, there has been no reaction from the Patriarchate of Moscow and all the Russias from either official or unofficial sources as to how the MP shall modify its relations with the EKD after the resignation of Margot Kässmann … if at all. There is nothing to go on, as of tonight. For those not in the know, the head of the EKD, Bishop Margot Kässmann resigned yesterday after she was arrested for drink drinking by the police. I would think that the MP would adjust its relations depending on who is elected to the post. However, there has been no word official or unofficial, not even a hint of rumour or scuttlebutt. Your guess is as good as mine is. One wonders if Frau Kässmann was “set up”, or whether it was just a dumb as dirt mistake. Well, one thing is certain, at that level, you don’t get a second chance (unless you’re in the OCA, but let’s not open that particular manhole, shall we?).
One wonders what Alfeyev is going to say about this…

Update 13.00 25 February 2010:
There’s still no word up on the MP’s take on this on any of the websites, not on the official sites or on any of the news outlets. A friend told me that Fr Filipp Ryabykh has made a statement in reaction to the news, but it’s nothing new, the same old boilerplate, I’m afraid. As soon as the statement comes in, I’ll translate and post it… it appears to be of interest to some of you.
