Beringiya Sea Hunter Festival Opened in Chukotka

Today, the Beringiya Sea Hunter Cultural and Sport Festival opened in Chukotka. Only the best sea hunters are going to compete; this year, there are 140 participants in the various sporting events. Traditionally, the best sea hunters compete for the title of the fastest and most skilled at the Beringiya Festival. Men race over a 16-kilometre course, whilst women and youths race for 10 kilometres. All of the races use traditional Chukchi rowboats make of wooden frames covered with walrus skins. On shore, guests can witness a variety of different contests and traditional Chukchi competitions. The 18th Beringiya Sea Hunter Cultural and Sport Festival will end on Sunday, ITAR-TASS reported.
