12 December 2014. A Point to Ponder…

The neoliberal worldview builds up misery and guilt in those who theorise it or support it. It alienates the individual… firstly, from his inner self, and secondly, from his fellow beings. These theories conveniently forget that there’s a limit on natural resources. Forlorn and wasted, where else will such men seek their redemption if not in their own death? Fascism and its first cousin neoliberalism are harbingers of death and destruction.

Neoliberalism is what many miscall “conservatism” in the USA (the worst poseurs are so-called “paleocons”… they’re all Burkean Whigs, not Conservatives at all). Need I add more? HH agrees with this negative critque of neoliberalism… Potapov and Paffhausen do not. Which side are you on?

Authorities to Move Polar Bear Hanging Around Oil Wells to Arctic island

Polar bears in Russia

On Tuesday, a local official said a local official said that they’d tranquilise and airlift to an Arctic island a polar bear who hung around an oil well in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The three-year old bear kept oil well workers on their toes for six days, and even attempted to sneak into their canteen, but it wasn’t aggressive. On 20 November, they scared away the beast with a helicopter and moved it to an oil field 50 kilometres (31 miles) away from the oil workers’ compound. The official said, “There’s no link between Dolgy Island (where the airlift will leave the bear) and the continent, therefore, we hope that the bear will adapt there and will find food in his natural habitat”. However, Viktor Nikiforov, the chief of the Bear Patrol programme of the World Wildlife Fund Russia, said that the bear’s move was a temporary solution, “The bear won’t understand that humans were a threat”, adding that the beast could approach settlements again. The polar bear is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The estimated worldwide polar bear population is 20,000-25,000, with 5,000-7,000 living along Russia’s Arctic coast. Since 1957, polar bear hunting has been illegal in Russia.

Cat Feasts on Pricey Upscale Seafood at Russian Airport

00 cat with beer. 10.08.12

On Thursday, a shop assistant said that a cat sneaked into a shop at the airport in Vladivostok, eating vacuum-packed smoked fish and squid, spoiling seafood worth some 60,000 roubles (1,070 USD. 6,640 Renminbi. 66,900 INR. 1,240 CAD. 1,300 AUD. 865 Euros. 680 UK Pounds). The airport media service said that airport safety rules didn’t allow cats on the premises, but the feline could’ve run away from one of the passengers, saying, “CCTV caught the animal sneaking into the shop when it was open. After the shop closed, the cat was locked there”.

Methinks that the seafood was open. No cat alive could smell unopened vacuum-packed fish. Something’s “fishy” here (it’s a bad pun, but what the hey, I had to work with what I had)…

CIA Chief Defends Torture… We Hung Nazis and Japs for That After WWII

Read this. The  Republican Party endorses torture. Antonin Scalia endorses torture. Rush Limboob and Sarah Palin endorse torture. The rightwing punditocracy endorses torture. After World War II, we hung Nazis and Japs for committing torture. One of these things is not like the other! I’d compare courageous judges such as Frank Murphy and W B Rutledge with judicial scum such as Antonin Scalia… there’s no comparison. America has degenerated… the perps wore three-piece suits, NOT tie-dyed clothes. America went into the shitter due to the greed of the Affluent Effluent, not because some people lit up some weed. Money, not drugs, is America’s downfall. How many banksters are in prison? That’s why the One Percent anoints torturers and those who defend them. America’s values have done a 180 since the time of Slobberin’ Ronnie. Think of that the next time that you drive past the country club. Their privilege has a price… can’t you just hear the screams of those kidnapped under “extraordinary rendition?” You can… if you care. What does that tell us about the Republican Affluent Effluent? Think about it…
