We have loud voices amongst the konvertsy who wish to ally the Church with the most retrograde elements in the Republican Party. In essence, their argument is that the Republican Party and the Church are in accord. Izzat so? Well, what DOES the Church say? Here’s an authoritative text for Russian Orthodox Christians:

Often, the Church assumed the duty of interceding before the secular authority for those condemned to death, asking for mercy and leniency. Moreover, Christian moral influence fostered a negative attitude toward the death penalty. Thus, in Russia since the mid-18th century to the Revolution of 1905, it was a very rare thing. For the Orthodox consciousness, human life doesn’t end with bodily death… which is why the Church continues her care for those condemned to capital punishment. Abolition of the death penalty would give more opportunities for pastoral work with sinners and for them to come to repentance. It’s also clear that the death penalty can’t be reformatory, misjudgements are irreparable, and it provokes mixed feelings among people. Today, many states abolished the death penalty in law or in practise. Remembering that mercy to fallen man is always preferable to revenge, the Church welcomes these steps by state authorities.

Bases of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church

The preamble to this document makes it clear that it’s a guideline… like the canons, it isn’t “law”… it’s a “standard”, a “norm”. However, it’s clear from the above that the Church views the death penalty with great scepticism. Hmm… that’s only one voice, though… here’s another:

Our Lord Jesus Christ in His Sermon on the Mount said, “Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgement (see: Exodus 20.13). But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgement” (Gospel according to St Matthew 5.21-22). Thus, according to the authoritative interpretation of Scripture, according to Christ, not only does it prohibit the killing of another person, but even the anger of one person against another. As for murder… that goes even more so. It’s worth noting that according to the law given by God through Moses, the penalty for premeditated murder was death. “The murderer shall be put to death” (Numbers 35.16-18).

Then, came the Messiah, the Saviour, Our Lord Jesus Christ… and the Apostle said, “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (Second Epistle of St Paul to the Corinthians 5.17). Thus, because of Christ’s commandments given to us in the Sermon on the Mount, we must deny any kind of murder. From this, it follows that the commandments of the Lord, according to the teachings of Christ, that we shouldn’t kill in war or execute criminals (as it was in the Old Testament). This is the New Law. We should realise that everything else, no matter how we explain the particular circumstances or how they’re motivated… everything else deviates from the law… that is, it’s sin.

Here’s what Vladimir Putin believes:

In applying the death penalty to its citizens, even criminals, the state educates its citizens in cruelty; in an endless cycle, it generates brutality, on the part of citizens against each other and against the state itself. That is, it’s harmful and counterproductive. In order to fight crime effectively, we need a balanced and effective economic policy, an efficacious social policy, a competent and modern civilised penal system and law enforcement agencies. That’s hard to do, harder than the death penalty is.

Rick Perry demonises V V Putin… fancy that. Yet, one can see that V V Putin is a real Christian whereas Mr Perry is a posturing blood-drenched phony (he’s only a “Born-Again”, after all, not an actual Christian). Tsar Aleksandr Aleksandrovich, one of the strongest tsars, routinely commuted all death sentences to 10-15 years at hard labour, save for crimes against the state. Tsar Aleksandr… he was faithful to his wife, was a loving father, hid a bottle of brandy in his boot, and routinely commuted all death sentences… what’s not to like? I’d say that he was a REAL Christian, unlike Mr Perry, Franklin Graham, Willy Romney, Rick Santorum, and others of their ilk.

The late Patriarch Aleksei Ridiger and Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev both opposed the death penalty. Are you seeing a pattern here? I am… the Church and leading Russian figures are sceptical of the death penalty… but the Republican Party isn’t… it advocates the noose and the prison cell as nostrums, which has made America “the prison-house of all the nations”.  In short, for Russian Orthodox Christians, the konvertsy drive to ally us with the Republican Party is evil beyond redemption as it goes against what the Church believes, what it states, what it teaches, and what it lays out as an ideal. It also goes against the political practise of conscious Russian Orthodox rulers such as V V Putin and Tsar Aleksandr Aleksandrovich.

You can follow V V Putin or you can follow Rick Perry… that’s the choice on offer. Choose well… oh, yes… do be aware that the Monomoron crowd has chosen Rick Perry… I just thought that might interest you…

On Thursday, a source in the Ukrainian General Staff of the Armed Forces revealed that junta spetsnaz plan to start storming buildings and defences controlled by patriot opolchenie on 2 May. So-called “Interior Minister” Arseny Avakov headed the operation at first, but junta SBU chieftain Valentin Nalivaichenko is the new boss. The source said, “Turchinov removed Avakov from control as he failed during the initial phase of the operation”. The source said Nalivaichenko had SBU instructors “train” battalions of Right Sector terrorists, by arrangement with extremist leader Dmitri Yarosh. The assault will fall mainly in Lugansk Oblast, as the junta wants to regain control of the oblast by 3 May at any cost. Our source pointed up, “To help this, the SBU chief received carte blanche. Turchinov is coordinating actions with Yarosh”.

On Thursday, Sergei Aksyonov, the Chairman of the Republic of the Crimea (RK) Government, and Vladimir Konstantinov, the Chairman of the RK Supreme Soviet, said that the junta offensive against patriot-controlled regions would be the last gasp of the junta. Aksyonov said, “The crooks in Kiev don’t understand that everything they’re doing will boomerang on them personally. A war against one’s own people never does any good. We must put them on trial for this. At any rate, history will make its judgement of these villains, who send troops against their own people. If they resume military operations, it’d produce a result opposite to that expected by Kiev. They still don’t understand that all this will bring about is resistance ten times stronger than now. We must never forgive the killing of peaceful people, no matter what goals one pursues. They must come to their senses. We express our support for the people of the Southeast Ukraine, who legitimately fight for their rights and freedoms”.

Konstantinov echoed him, “A resumption of the military operation in the southeast Ukraine will be the last onslaught of the Kiev authorities. They touch one person… they’ll get a response ten times bigger. Kiev is creating a situation that simply can’t last. The people who’ve seized power in Kiev are incompetent. I wouldn’t be surprised if they proclaimed Hitler their honorary leader tomorrow. Sooner or later, I think that we’ll have to stop this Nazi orgy so that it doesn’t bring disgrace upon the Russian World before the eyes of the whole planet”.

On Friday, a opolchenie spokesman said that a full-scale operation is underway against Slavyansk, and junta armoured vehicles are on the outskirts of the city. Junta combat helicopters are over the town, which is under full blockade, fighting is underway. A opolchenie source told ITAR-TASS that he has no reliable information on casualties. Earlier, he said that junta forces jumped off at 05.00 local time (19.00 PDT. 22.00 1 May EDT. 03.00 BST. 06.00 MSK. 12.00 AEST), using helicopters and troops to strike peaceful civilians.

So-called “Interior Minister” Arseny Avakov claimed that junta forces captured 10 opolchenie strongpoints in Slavyansk and that they took opolchenie fighters prisoner during operations on Friday. The operation against Slavyansk jumped off in the early morning. “We took ten strongpoints and captured prisoners”, Avakov claimed on his Facebook page. He also said that one pilot died and several fighters wounded in clashes between junta forces and opolchenie in Slavyansk. Local patriot sources told RIA-Novosti that one person was dead and one wounded, “The Ukrainian army is landing troops from helicopters, they want to fully secure the area, the battle already is in the city centre. Armoured vehicles are on the outskirts”. Meanwhile, opolchenie in Slavyansk reported that they shot down three helicopters down over the city and said that they had video, which they’d release shortly. On Friday morning, a warning siren informed Slavyansk residents about the beginning of combat operations, soon after the shooting started. Slavyansk opolchenie reported attacks on strongpoints and on the train station.

On Friday, the Minoborony Ukrainy said, “Opposition forces outside of Slavyansk in Donetsk Oblast downed two Ukrainian Mi-24 armed helicopters carrying out aerial patrols. According to preliminary information, unidentified people using Zenit portable SAMs took down the helos. As a result, two military personnel died and several others injured”. It also reported that a Mi-8 transport helicopter suffered damage.

On Friday, the launch of junta military operations against in the early morning disrupted railway service around Slavyansk. A railway worker told RIA-Novosti, “No, the trains aren’t running at the moment. The station itself is operating”. At the same time, station staff found it difficult to explain how they plan to deal with the delay or when the movement would resume. The timetable for trains in Slavyansk today included 32 long-distance trains and 33 suburban trains. Amongst them, 50 trains pass through Slavyansk, whilst 15 begin or end their route there. Most trains arrive in the morning. On Friday, so-called “Interior Minister” Arseny Avakov said that the junta wants to blockade rail service and restrict vehicle movement near Slavyansk. In addition, two wagons standing across the road block the road from Kramatorsk to Slavyansk. Despite calls from the junta to stay indoors, civilians approached this block to plead with the junta troops not to storm the city.

On Friday, a RIA-Novosti correspondent reported that Right sector militants landed from a helicopter on the outskirts of Slavyansk, in a railway crossing on the outskirts. A junta unit with about 10 armoured vehicles are already there. Local residents forming a “live chain” blocked the way to Slavyansk.

On Friday, opolchenie sources told RIA-Novosti that foreigners are taking part along with junta forces in the attack on Slavyansk, saying, “When using radios, we’ve heard English several times on the air. This is direct proof of the participation of foreigners in the retaliatory operations against Slavyansk”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) repeatedly voiced its concern about the involvement of agents from the American private security firm Greystone in the Ukrainian crisis. It also pointed up the buildup of foreign forces in the Ukraine. Last month, Moscow said that it had reports that implicated some 150 Greystone mercenaries in a crackdown on protesters in the eastern Ukraine.

In an interview with RT TV last week, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, “There were reports, as you know, that several hundred [agents from] the private Greystone military organisation were detected in the Ukraine, coming from the USA. We’d like to investigate this. We raised this with our American colleagues. They said they had no knowledge of this going on and they said they’d approached Greystone itself and that they denied this. We’d like to really be certain of who is doing what because there have been so many ‘distortions of reality,'” he added.

Greystone Ltd. denied reports of sending its personnel to the Ukraine; last month, Greystone PR flack Tiffany Anderson told RIA-Novosti, “While Greystone has the ability to deploy world-class security staff and trainers anywhere in the world, the Company doesn’t currently, nor do we have any plans to, send personnel to the Ukraine”.

On Tuesday, Konstantin Dolgov, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Commissioner for Human Rights, told RIA-Novosti, “Once again, the reports about foreign mercenaries in this operation raises a grave issue of external interference in Ukrainian affairs and the role of the West in provoking this situation instead of sending the necessary limiting signals to the Kiev authorities, instead of encouraging them to rein in all those unbridled extremists and radical nationalists”.

Opolchenie in Slavyansk, besieged by junta troops, are bracing for assaults due tonight. Reinforcements from throughout Donetsk Oblast are heading for Slavyansk to help the town’s defenders, Nikolai Solntsev, one of the leaders of the Eastern Front social-patriotic movement, told reporters, “We have information that the most active phase of this operation is scheduled to begin in the late evening of 2 May. There will be a major turning point in the people’s liberation struggle this evening. All our forces are now concentrated on Slavyansk. The situation in the town is very tense. Our opolchenie volunteers are in combat. Large numbers of fighters are on their way to reinforce them. It’s important that Slavyansk’s people stand up to defend their town”.

On Friday, junta chieftain Aleksandr Turchinov said in a statement posted on his website that three junta soldiers died and seven more were wounded in the fighting near Slavyansk. Turchinov claimed that the opolchenie “sustained considerable losses, with many killed and wounded”. He claimed that the junta “seized all fortified localities and check points, blocking it completely. The attack is underway”.

On Friday, at least four men died killed in running battles between pro-Russian and pro-junta activists in Odessa, and the trades-union building in the city centre was set on fire. According to the First National TV Channel, three of the four clash victims died from gunshot wounds. Local media quoted police spokesman Tatiana Khmelnitskaya as saying that three policemen were wounded, including deputy chief of the Odessa police Dmitri Fuchudzhi. Apart from that, the clashes injured three journalists.

A Rossiya-24 television correspondent reported that junta units began storming opolchenie positions in Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast. He said that fighters told him about the assault, and that they took wounded people to hospital. Volunteers arrived at Kramatorsk hospitals to care for wounded people. Local residents helped give first aid to the wounded. Fighting also resumed in Slavyansk a few hours ago.

On Friday, Denis Pushilin, the Donetsk People’s Republic’s Co-Chairman, told a press conference that the date for a referendum on sovereignty of the Donetsk Oblast hadn’t changed; it’d proceed as planned on 11 May. He announced the question for the referendum “Do you support the declaration of independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic? Yes or No”. A referendum would take place also in Lugansk Oblast on the same date. Pushilin noted, “A referendum is the only way to settle the problem and make the entire world know what’s happening here. The junta used about 20 helicopters in Slavyansk, and the opolchenie shot down three of them. The junta forces left a wounded pilot at the site. Unfortunately, there’s bloodshed. It’s a big mistake. The junta is doing everything to unleash a civil war. We wait for an assault every day. The Right Sector is present. All (Donetsk Oblast residents) are determined. Nobody intends to retreat”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) stated, “The tragic events in Odessa on 2 May, in which, according to reports, 38 people died and 50 were injured, are viewed in Moscow as the result of the criminal irresponsibility of the Kiev leadership in indulging insolent nationalist radicals, including the Right Sector, who stage a campaign of physical terror against supporters of federalization and real constitutional changes in the Ukrainian society. We categorically condemn it”.

After a battle near the entrance to Kramatorsk Friday evening, the city hospital reported 10 wounded and one dead. Earlier, reports said that after the attack in Kramatorsk, the number of injured and dead was in the dozens and they were taken to hospitals in Kramatorsk and Slavyansk. In an area between the two cities, in Yasnogorki, unarmed civilians blocked a column of between 10 and 14 armoured vehicles and other equipment. After dark, the junta forces opened fire with tracer bullets from avtomats. Doctors told RIA-Novosti, “We received 10 injured with bullet wounds. There are seriously injured and some with lighter wounds. At least one woman (aged 36), an activist, is among them. Unfortunately, one died”.

Early Saturday morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) called on Kiev to show whether there are Russians among the dead from a fire in Odessa, otherwise, it’d consider the tragic event as a new attempt to blame everything on Russia. Ukrainian media claimed that 15 people who died in Odessa were Russian citizens, who were allegedly participating in protests.

A Letter from an Ordinary Odessa Guy…

Good day, Mr Morozov…

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your work in this difficult time for all of us. I read your article. The letter of the Zaporozhe descendant moved me tremendously; therefore, I’d like to share some thoughts about Galician nationalists.

My grandfather was a Commander of the Order of Glory. For me, the St George Ribbon is a symbol of my grandfather’s podvig during the Great Patriotic War. I’m proud of my ancestors. When I was in Treptow Park in the heart of Berlin, my heart fluttered from the grandeur of the monumental sacrifices performed by a single nation in the fight against fascism. However, I had the same feeling when I saw my hometown, Odessa, at the top of the list of Hero Cities. I realised what the podvig of Odessa meant for the country in 1941, if Leningrad and Stalingrad were lower on the list. It was the first city to stand up to the enemy; it didn’t give up, it gave hope to others!

In Germany, I saw a bombed-out church, which stood as a reminder of the terrible war years. In a restaurant, I saw guilty looks from those who fell for Nazi propaganda. The German nation offered repentance. However, time quickly passes, and the privileged swiftly forget the pain of the people, as they don’t feel the people’s calamity, which gives them a sense of chosenness.  Again, my homeland faced deception because of Germany’s imperial ambitions… but at the last moment, we had the courage to call a spade a spade, and refused the unequal conditions of EU association, which caused a storm. Who more than others defended this slave contract for the Ukraine? Those who helped the Germans to suppress uprisings of freedom-loving Poles and Hungarians in the 19th century, those who butchered Poles, Jews, Belarusians, Ukrainians, and Russians together with the Germans in the 20th century, and those who in the 21st century again urge Ukrainians to accept western slave conditions:

One must understand that the Galicians had no link to the Sich Rada and its former glory, as the “Descendant of Zaporozhe” correctly noted in his letter. Their talk of democracy is a sham. In fact, the oligarchical model, which they’ve built up in the last three months in the Ukraine, is an ideology congenial to the Galician mentality. It’s a self-appointed junta.

Thousands of Patriots Rally in Odessa Against Pro-American Junta Filth… VOV Vets Led the Way!

Despite hot weather, thousands of patriots in Odessa marched through its central streets on May Day, carrying placards reading “Odessa is a Hero City”, “Referendum”, and “Fascism Won’t Pass”. War veterans clad in parade uniform and carrying flowers led the column. Car owners greeted the veterans with honks, and many people joined the march on the way. The procession stopped in the city’s Kulikovo Field where People’s Alternative activists set up a tent city to collect signatures in support of a referendum on federalisation, the official status of the Russian language, and the foreign policy vector of the country. Speakers assured supporters, “Protesters won’t leave the Kulikovo Field until the authorities meet our demands for a referendum and release our comrades arrested by the SBU”. Oleg Muzyka, a Rodina Party leader, said, “We want to build a bright future and take all the best we had in the past. The people who come to our rallies have an ideology unlike those who liken ideas to the contents of their refrigerators”. The rally went off peacefully, without provocations from junta supporters. The junta puppets in the Odessa city administration put local police on high alert ahead of the event, with 1,400 cops on duty during the May Day holidays.

Of course, you’re aware of the brouhaha in the American media over events in the Ukraine. Did you notice the slanted reports on the patriot rallies such as the one above? Are these reports reliable? I’d argue that they’re not, and that most media operatives are shameless painted whores for the worst sorts of neoliberalism and American Exceptionalism. If they aren’t, well, they don’t last long… since the Republican victory in the congressional elections of 1946, the rightwing consistently tried to demonise the left and roll back the achievements of the socialist New Deal. Until the fall of the USSR due to internal causes (the USA and the Cold War had nothing at all to do with it), the American right had to be careful… ergo, they didn’t dare touch the main elements of the New Deal. However, the American right misinterpreted the fall of the USSR as a victory for American “conservatism”, which had nothing to do with it at all.

Today, most of the New Deal is dead… but the Republican Party isn’t content. It wants to destroy socialism utterly, in not only the USA, but also wherever it exists in the world. Lies mean nothing to Republicans. Hell, lies mean nothing to Anglo-Americans. Lies are acceptable, as long as you win. “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”… I might mention that Vince Lombardi, who popularised that saying, was a gutless coward who refused to serve in the forces during World War II (typical for a Republican… loud belligerence coupled with personal cravenness).

One must view the media campaign against Russia in that light. The American Right does understand one thing aright… V V Putin is trying to revive the best features of the USSR. For instance, there was a massive labour march on Red Square today. It took an hour for the over 100,000 marchers to pass. Note well that the American media doesn’t tell you how the people want the USSR back… it doesn’t tell you how much the people respect the remaining VOV vets, who fought for the ideals of the USSR. Yes, there were excesses in the USSR… but if one excuses the excesses of Anglo-America (and the media certainly does that), then, one must be fair and excuse the excesses of the USSR. If one excuses Wounded Knee and the Robber Baron violence against the American trades-union movement, then, one must excuse the GULag… it’s quite that simple (Solzhenitsyn was in prison for his ideas… so was Eugene V Debs). No nation is free of guilt… NONE. In fact, if you were to compare the Anglo-American drive across the American continent to the Russian drive across Eurasia, one has to admit that Russia was far fairer to native peoples than Anglo Americans were (how many of its false treaties did the Anglos honour in the end?). In fact, in 1867, the Russians told the Alaska Natives, “Watch out! These Americans are real pigs!”

You may believe the truth as presented in the Russian media or you may believe the lies of Anglo-Americans. Mind you, most Anglo-Americans are innocent… they’re simply another people like any other (they’re not “exceptional” at all… they’d admit that to you)… but a sick and juvenile superiority complex covered over with a smiling, smarmy, and “nice” exterior permeates the grasping American Establishment and its me-too media prostitutes (shame on you, Sophia Kishkovsky, Serge Schmemann, and Victor Potapov). I prefer “rude”, grim, and unsmiling Russians… at least, they don’t tell you egregious lies and expect you to thank them for it.
